Waa PSP and K-on - help me decide ?

Posted by skan [www]

So I was searching figure.fm out of boredom and came across supernature ' s loot post
and I see you can play anime on the psp and also play games regardless of origin (Japan, Canada,etc)

I did think of getting a PSP before but it seemed like to much money for something I would barely use since I don't like most PSP games. I only like JRPG's with good art and story. But now it seems I am moving all over the place and would be convienent to get something I can watch anime, listen to music, and occasionally play a game on the go, something to kill time. Also the look and bulkyness of the PSP (at the time it first came out I've no idea what it looks like now) really put me off. And lack of good games I suppose. (I bet there are plenty of great games out there but I am picky and have odd tastes lol)
I use to hate that it was so big you can't fit in a pocket, but now I don't really mind that since I carry a bag around all the time. I collect alot of keychains I wonder if the PSP has a keychain slot? haha

So now I have been looking on Play-asia's website and was wondering if the prices for those PSP are fair considering the rare colours ( I think rare, becuase I don't see those colours in my local shops) Prices are about 200CAD and up.
Also if someone can help me understand the difference between PSP 1000 and this PSP slim & Lite model advertised on Play-Asia.

Basically all I want to do is watch anime on the go and listen to music too. PSP seems like a great way to do this. I am also very interested in that K-on game and the Project Diva Hatsune Miku game also ~!

Is there a certain format files have to be to go onto PSP? I don't want to pay so much for this system only to not be able to play any of my anime on it orz;;;
Also it would help so I can get on downloading some anime before I even get a PSP so I know it works.

Currently I am really interested in this cherry blossom pink PSP on Play-Asia.

So is it worth getting this cool colour of PSP from play-asia or am I better off getting a plain boring PSP from walmart?

I did try a google search to answer my questions and try help me decide but alot of it gets very confusing I just want someone to tell me what they think. This community seems friendly enough so why not ask you guys?

Which one do you think?

0%

Also it would be nice if you guys could tell me your PSP experience and what you use it for mainly and if you think it was worth it etc. :)

Mouseover = load notes.

The P3P game looks good to for the PSP. (Yah I know these characters are from P4 not P3)

    now I am little bit more familar with the PSP I can tell you a little bit.
    psp 1000 are thicker while psp 2000 & 3000 are slimmer. psp 3000 suppose to have more colorful displays. and just get the black or silver on on ebay/amazon for like $120~ you can put on a custom vinyl faceplate thingy from uniqueskin for like $6. PSP video files can be converted by xilsoft ultimate video converter, any video to PSP. you also need to buy pro duo cards or micro sdhc with pro duo adapters (I bought 16gb x 2) to be able to store good amount of audio/video/pic. So far I just explored the video portion and its good, does what its duppose to. came out to 160mb for an episode of k-on. games are region free, so can be play on any psp. if you really want to get a pretty color one on play asia....wait till they have coupons, usually sometimes they will :P

      you probably already have video files on your computer.
      all you need to do is use xilsoft ultimate video converter (youtube it to see how to "get" it) and it will convert any video file to be playable on the psp.
      if you have some money, get the limited edition, function-wise its no difference. although regular one goes for like $169 or so~ ( I paid $120 but I bought it "like new")
      I think the red one looks pretty, and only one in stock~

        So 2000&3000 seem like the ones to get ~ good display and slim model. Thanks for info about the converter definately saves time trying to find all of my anime files in a format for PSP. Do you have any problems with subtitles? Since alot of anime I watch are not in english haha.
        I don't have much money and for some reason I don't trust amazon or ebay lol (irrational fears are everywhere haha) hmm buuut that custom faceplate thing is tempting...buuut the cool colour argh. definately have alot to think about. thanks so much for the helpful info ! wasn't expecting any detailed answers on what seems like a stupid question haha.

          I used to watch a lot of anime on the PSP during my work lunch hour and the subtitles come out real clear. It's a much bigger screen on the PSP than my credit card-size video player. As for the video converter you can go with what superunature said or you can go with DVDVideoSoft which I use. Free to use. Or if you're someone who go for newer anime you can try Kemonomimi who converts them into PSP format.

          As for the unique colours, I'm not picky and usually go for the cheaper price, lol.

      3DS? Theres going to be a PSP2 ? hmm I wonder if its worth the wait though. I am not a hardcore gamer and those two games I listed above would likely be the only ones I get. As the main use I would use the PSP for is to watch anime and listen to music on the go. I am guessing it would be a high price too considering it is a new model and will likely come with tons of upgrades. My last investment on a newer model upgrade was a bit of a waste. I got the new DSi the only game I own for it is pokemon and I don't play it often anymore. (or at all D: )

          Wouldnt the memory not be a problem as you can buy those memory sticks? er I dont know? haha
          hmm I see your point but I think I would rather get something like "all in one" (unlike the Dsi which does nothing but play games) A freind of mine carries around his DSi, Ipodtouch, Iphone, and ipod. He looks hilarious carrying those around in pockets all at once. Plus I have a weakness for rythm games and moe anime girls.

    It'd be more practically to get a PSP in Walmart. But they have so much more colors in Japan though. I mean, you're gonna be looking at the screen anyway when you use it. But having a unique color is just...COOL! LOL yeah i'm a bit shallow like that. But anyway, a PSP is a good investment IMO. Especially now, 2010, has been a good year for the PSP with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Persona 3 Portable, and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. Been hooked on my PSP more than my PS3, 360, and Wii lately.

      What I disliked about the older PSP is that it only came in silver and black I wanted to be unique so I guess the japanese ones would be pretty good lol I'm conflicted between the prices and uniqueness. Its too hard to decide on a deal from walmart or cool unique colour. > n < ) ;;

    PSPs awesome. Definitely the best handheld console out there (even thought it's mainly just a competition of two.) Game choice, Japanese Style RPGS definitely side with the PSP (I'm a JRPG fan).

    The PSP is undeniably a good console with all the features of the PS3 minus the HD-BluRay. But to tell you the truth, I personally think it's a dying console. Infact, I've already come down to selling mine to fund my other K-On needs.

      Definately agree with you on the JRPG having more selection on the PSP.

      It probably is dying but it doesn't matter to me. I still have my PS2 from it's first release and I have a small collection of rare JRPG's for it that I never get sick of playing ~ Sad that new games wont be released for it anymore ( I think) but at least I have a good selection of games already to enjoy throughout the years to come. Besides I don't buy much games for them I stick with certain ones and play them over again so I'm sure this will last quite a bit for me since I will likely use it for more than just gaming. :)

    Get a cheap one locally, then goto a place like http://www.decalgirl.com/ and get a cool skin for it. Some places let you make your own custom skin also.

    The PSP isn't dying or getting replaced anytime soon. Last year sony said they have at least 4 more years of development for it still. Even if they do replace it, the software will still be made for it. Every month, tons of PS2 games are still being released.

    Skan, considering that both the PSPs are pretty much identical except for the Japanese language which... come on it's just an aesthetic thing like the cover cool colours. I suggest that you pick up the local one and save you the 50-100 USD or however much it is and make yourself a cover for the psp. Which will only cost your around 10USD.

      I'm not much when it comes to stuff like that haha It seems kind of hard
      Yeah the cost is crazy but well worth it in my pinion. I love to have the physical version and to support the creators at the same time ~

        I'm highly supportive of the industry when things are localized. I own over 400 licensed dvd and 100s of games. But for me to import also stuff I cannot read seems overkill.

    I just bought a silver PSP and put on a soft protective pink cover on it, makes it pink and comfy to hold too. ^^
    I've been playing a bunch of japanese PSP games so far and love it! I haven't watched any anime on it or played any music on it yet... hehe
