Should I work in a maid cafe....?

Should I work in a maid cafe....?

I wandered into a new cosplay cafe that recently opened beside my house. Suddenly I was attacked by some of the waitresses (Maids- Apparently it's a maid cafe) and I was asked if I would like to audition for being part of the staff there. So, I was dragged onto there on a whim (just for fun- I knew I wouldn't make it. I'm 15, and most of the waitresses there are 16 and some reaching 19). So, anyway, I just introduced myself with a couple of other girls and that was that.

Today, I got an e-mail from the cafe (from the registration form) saying that I was chosen along with another girl who is 16. Sooo.... Should I cosplay as a maid in a cafe, or not? What is making me want to do it is...
1. The money. I haven't had a part time job in a long time, and my wallet is dying T_T
2. Most of the customers are female (whoever knew?)

What's not making me do it...
1. There are Male customers ranging from all ages D: I feel awkward. No offence to anyone, it's just my nature.
2. The dress. I'll be wearing Maid Cosplay, similar to the one in Kaichou wa Maid Sama
3. I'm 15, and I don't know if I'm ready haha.
4. School. It's important. lol

The job pays (TALK TO ME) $150 a week. It's like a dream, and since I have school in the morning I work from 5 to 8 everyday.
Somehow is seems perfect.

And-by luck- they told me my first assignment is cosplaying. When I asked them "who?" they said any character from a 2010 anime. I ended up getting to cosplay Kanade from Angel Beats for a special Sunday opening celebration.

What do you guys think? Should I take this job?
And if I do, should I post pics here haha

Edit

I talked with some of the maids at the cafe and they are really nice. I feel comfortable knowing that I have 2 girls along me who are almost my age (they are 16). I then talked to the manager, who happens to be a woman (why am I starting to feel like it's Working? LOL), and she too is really considerate.

I got some information about the job from an e-mail:

Pays: $150 a week
What I will be required to do Be a maid (Of course haha), Get orders, serve, play games with some customers occasionally, dance on Tuesday cosplay days, and sometimes sing.

I then got some job information about the cosplay I will be wearing every Tuesday Cosplay Day:

Week 1
Tachibana Kanade from Angel Beats! - I will be required to act like Kanade for the day.

Week 2
Poplar from Working!

Week 3
Serah (Lightning's sister) from Final Fantasy

Week 4
Nadeko from Bakemonogatari - I will be required to do "Renai Circulation" along with the other maids who are cosplaying the other characters

Week 5
Yuki Nagato from Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu - I will be required to dance "Hare Hare Yukai" along with the other cosplaying maids.

That's all the information concerning the schedule for the next 5 weeks that I'll work in. Week 1 is an introductory week for the grand opening of this Cafe.

Sounds pretty exciting haha xD

Really it depends on how you'd feel about having to serve guys who find you cute, but if it doesn't encroach on school and you're happy with the pay and working environment I'd say go for it!

    p.s. Posting pics is a must! ^^;

If you're up for it then sure why not?

    I don't think its a bad thing.
A job is a job, doesn't make much of a difference working at a maid cafe.
It's good to get a part-time and make some spare change.

Mind you, this is only how I see it (only 18 here :3)

I'd say if your parents are okay with it then go for it.

I wouldn't be too scared of safety.

I mean, you're going to have more of an issue of guys staring at you than anything.
        I can't really relate because well, I'm not a girl :3

There is a very small possibility of some guy getting obsessive, but I think you'll be alright.

Haha, I don't think guys here are like that so much. They're more into gaming than anime, but I do know that basically they are limited to these anime: Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Death Note, Code Geass, and Soul Eater. LOL.
The only thing I'm scared of might be some of my friends seeing me there. I don't mind my close friends, they know, but others will make fun during school haha.
          :D

Well, I don't know. I live in Canada.

Here the idea of a Maid Cafe is unheard of.
Personally I think they're interesting, but a tad expensive.
The way the staff members dress up is always interesting though.

I've only been to one, on my trip to Japan.
Went to Acasius Boarding School, in Ikebukuro.
I think two famous cosplayers work there, including Kipi (who I'm a fan of :3) and Yun (although I'm not familiar with Yun)

Shouldn't matter what other people think anyway.. go with what you like.

Honestly I think there's nothing wrong with working at a maid cafe.
Personally I think it's cute. Haha.

People who working in cosplay cafe doesnt really mean they are into animes and stuff you know. If your schoolmates or not so close friends laugh at you, they are probably too immature to think everyone has circumstances and work doesnt mean pleasure. They are just jealous you got a job you enjoy and blah blah stuff~~~
I am really jealous of you actually, I had been scouted by a modeling agency which well does cosplay stuff as one of its genres, which is fantastic. I got down with my mom to their office talk to the supervisor guess what mom disagrees.
You are really lucky to have supportive parents I say go for it!

Most customers are FEMALE????? (raises eyebrow) Where in Asia are you?

Usually Maido Cafes have a male clientele. And every time they do something like this at Anime conventions it's usually chock-a-block with guys unless there are some cute male Hosts there too. Anime Los Angeles, for one thing, usually has both Maids and Hosts (Ouran stylee) at the Blue Rose Cafe.

        This is quite interesting.

That entirely depend on whether you really need money or not. If you need money, take the job. Like what NyanChoco said, a job is just a job. Not many people can have a job that give you $150 a week. Of course, since you are a lady, always be more careful. If they ask you to sign any contract, read every last detail before you sign it.

And they said we'd have a Tuesday Cosplay day where we wear a themed anime / gaming character. I was informed the second week would be a Bakemonogatari one.

If it interferes with your school life you shouldn't take the job - but if you personally think that you can handle it - go for it. As long as you can feel or learn to feel comfortable while being looked at (well that's the premise of those cafes after all ^^), it shouldn't be a problem.
I also don't think that you'll have trouble with obsessive customers, especially since the cafe seems to be close to where you live - so no problems with long walks home at night.

I also started working part-time around 16 and it can be quite fun to do ;) Also money's a good thing! Lots of money = lots of anime merchandise :P

As others stated, you can always quit when you don't feel like it anymore, and a month can go by quickly ;)

Sounds like it's good training to ween you off of getting embarassed. Good pay, too, it'd support a modest anime hobbyist or collector, and if your hours don't bother your school days, but make homework a problem, just do your homework during lunch. Oh, and the main weakness of any student employed at a maid cafe is when somebody asks where they're working. That might pose a problem unless you're not gonna be embarassed about telling someone.
It's also good for the cafe's business if you can speak english, what with european and north american tourists coming for stuff like that.

Yes, I worked out the homework plan, and it fits in my schedule :) And rarely does someone ask another student what their part time job is, mostly because most students don't have time for part time jobs, from what I've observed.
And, yes, I do speak fluent English (Started learning when I was five) and there are a handful of American and European tourists here :)

You say you need the money, so go for it. It's a good learning experience. If you think it's degrading, meaning you feel uncomfortable with the job then don't. I think the worst that can happen is being sexually harassed by customers.

Wear grandma underwear so you they won't have interest to look up your dress.

Either that or bicycle shorts underneath your skirt. That's what cheerleaders do here in the States.

I you feel confident enough to try it, you could just give it a try. After all, you can always quit after a month. I bet it's a once in a lifetime experience - maybe it's a lot of fun, you never know before you try.

Just don't be afraid to make a scene if someone is trying to take advantage of you - as a man myself, I know how we guys can be if there's a cute girl in a maid costume... with your boss being female, I think it should be rather safe from that side.

Nope. It just takes courage to wear a maid outfit, I guess, so that's why the pay is extremely high :)

I've always wanted to work at a maid cafe but I'm too young to work(and there's none in the U.S. xD) I think it would be fun and you would get discounts on sweets *Q*

I'd say go for it. As long as it doesn't interfere with the rest of your life, and you can handle the weirdos, then it would be pretty cool. Plus, pics.

Looks like a pretty good job, especially for a person who is in high school. Of course there are a few things you need to address obviously, such as the time you work, safety, and how you feel about the job in general. If you have free time when not in school or doing homework and want to make some money then it seems convincing to do so. According to what you said safety doesn't seem to be an issue, but it's all up to you if you personally feel you're in a safe environment. Lastly, you should make sure you really want to work in the maid cafe. Don't go doing something that you feel you are forcing yourself to do for reasons, I'm not saying that anything is compelling you to do this than for money, just make sure the job is for you. That makes it easier for you and your employer.

Working in a maid cafe sounds like fun. I would probably choose to do the job (though either if I was a girl or if there were male jobs in the cafe, probably moving boxes in the back or something along those lines). It would be a plus if you are also into J-Pop stuff too to make it enjoyable for yourself. Well, the decision is up to you.

    Sounds great, but School should come first. I worked and attended school at your age but since I graduated in the tops of my class I got thrown crazy amounts of scholarships from different universities which is was beneficial long term. If you can balance both then take it up but giving you the heads up, you won't have a social life :0}

Also I don't think you should worry about the male customers. If I went to a maid cafe I would go just for the experience, not the girls working there but just be very cautious...you can never be too careful. It should be pretty interesting cosplaying Serah, Kanade, and Nadeko though.

Gee that sounds like a fun job to me, wear pretty dresses while serving! And if you hook up with the other girls working there it'd be more like a friends party feeling in there. I can imagine something like this to be a lot of fun :D Also if someone gets rude I'm sure they would kick customers like that out or? OH AND!!! Oh and if you do it!!! You should take tons of pics, make a blog about it. :D I'd totally read it all the time, im interested in things like that :D

I say do it, I work in a Maid & Butler Cafe and I say it's amazing, Personally I Love the Hospitality industry, a real big passion. The real thrill from it all is the people you meet! :3 bosses of this place and that place, great social networking! and how you can relate with hobbies that are similar, Anime, Dollfies, etc.

Your pay sure as hell sounds pretty sweet for what you are getting, which sounds alot more easier task wise if you were to work in a regular cafe.

Though our Maid's don't really get hit on as much and if anything like that to occur, we ususally ask them to leave (I guess we're the muscle >_>;) so if you have at least one Male staff member working there you shouldn't be concerned at all. Other than that, time to go work on Martial arts xD

Sure hope you do take up the job! It's a real Life changer :3

Like JakeTheFake says. If u are comfortable cosplaying around male customers then okay and money is very important. You know pay your college tuition + etc, buy stuff for yourself, and possible to get your own place. It is my opinion but I always care about the welfare of females.
