Dear Aspiring Dollfie Dream Owners~

.

Hello~ This is polty here :3

Something just happend that inspired me to write this post.

* * *

Currently, a post under moderation involves an aspiring Dollfie Dream owner requesting to take part in the Dollfie Dream community.

I will quote:

"So, here I am, an aspiring dollfie dream owner, trying to learn as much as I can about these wonderful dolls before I actually go out and buy one. A lot of people have been saying that the Den of Angels forums are one of the best places to gather information and other useful things. So today I went to go and sign up so that I can participate in the discussions. However, I need an invitation code to sign up! D: I decided I would ask here since so many of you own Dollfies:
Could somebody please please please give me an invite code to Den of Angels???? I'm begging you! Dx"

* * *

This reminded me that I was in the same position when I tried to join the online Dollfie Dream community a month ago.

I remember a while back, Wolf already wrote an article for a beginner's guide to getting your first dollfie. And soon enough, I too, wrote an express guide to getting a dollfie. But although we still have a ways to create an entire Dollfie Dream wiki, I realized that there's still lacks one central place to discuss about Dollfie Dreams and have access to all related questions.

So I am writing this post as a reply to all aspiring DD owners out there, what I think can help you take part and get started before a DD discussion forum/wiki arrives.

* * * * * *

So you are an aspiring DD owner/new owner and want to take part...

Den of Angels actually doesn't really focus on Dollfie Dream dolls, there's only ONE small thread that talks about it. If you're not quite into BJDs like Super Dollfie, Delfs, DODs, Unoas and such, and are only interested in Dollfie Dream line from Volks, and seriously interested at that (planning to get one real soon) I would recommend you to follow me on Twitter and then go to my "Following/Followers" List and add every other Dollfie Dream owner you see there. We have DD discussions all the time. I personally have found this most useful ever since I joined.

Due to the fact that there is currently no central hub for discussing purely the Dollfie Dream line right now, we (the Twitter group) are debating whether or not to create a DD only forum.

Of course, if you're in a rush to get a Dollfie Dream or so; you may also visit:

Wolfheinrich's Beginner's Guide:
http://tcwenterprise.com/wordpress/2010/09/01/where-to-buy-dollfie-dream-a-beginners-guide/

And also dollfiehome's Guide:
http://dollfiehome.com/2010/10/14/how-to-getting-your-first-dollfie-dream-in-5-easy-steps/

But Twitter is really the best place to share live DD related infos right now since we talk about it 24/7.

When you actually get photos of your Dollfie Dreams, I would also recommend joining the Flickr Dollfie Dream group, it's more quiet there, but whenever someone posts photos of their dollfies, they usually get feedback immediately :3

Lastly, if you really do want an invitation for DoA, drop me your e-mail and I can send you an invitation. That e-mail must be the e-mail you wish to use to register for DoA.

If you're worried about privacy issues, you can send your e-mail to me at dollfiehome@gmail.com (actually scratch that, DoA only limits invitations sent out by one person. I'm out of invitations, please ask the nice peoples who are offering to invite you in the comments below!) or simply start following http://twitter.com/dollfiehome on Twitter and following everyone else that's DD related on there ~ We would love to welcome you greatly when you talk to us :3

I am not a spokesperson and am in no position to determine that everyone should just follow the Twitter group, and that everyone would be equivalently welcoming, but I do believe that if you're a serious DD owner, everyone on there will no doubt happily welcome you warmly. I can confirm that because I have experienced it myself :3

I know there are several large communities out there right now that also discuss Dollfie Dreams, I am fairly certain SGcafe.com has a devoted section for discussion and photos. I'm not Singaporean myself so I'm not sure what their take on it would be if I joined.

Nonetheless, this is just my narrow view of what's out there so far, if you know of very active DD discussion places, please inform us in the comments, I would really appreciate it, thank you ~

Really hope to see the Dollfie Dream community grow ~

Den of Angels is a great place if you're looking to buy a Dollfie as well. Just be warned, there are a few people on the forum that don't really like vinyl dolls. There are also a few that you might not want to deal with when it comes to business.

Otherwise, I agree with Polty, it's not a bad place. :3

I would be so happy if you guys made a separate DD forum. I imagine it would be very popular. :D

Like I heard from a friend there seem to be some issues and disagreements between SD owners to DD owners.
I don't really know what exactly happened but from what I have heard there is alot of hate around.
I shall not dig into it. I still love my DDs, thats all I need to know.

I remember reading that DoA is a no-vinyl zone.
However DDs are still allowed on the forum because they were grandfathered in.

I've heard about the hate going around too.

I wouldn't say there's that much hate, exactly. DoA is a very strictly moderated forum and anything that gets genuinely vitriolic is quickly deleted or locked, and generally as long as you respect the rules and atmosphere of the forum it's fine.

Resin owners aren't always receptive to the DD crowd, and some of them are a bit resentful of anime fans because they don't appreciate the association that dolls like DDs have created between anime fans and BJD owners. DoA tries to keep things strictly on the topic of (mainly resin) Asian BJDs in order to maintain its focus on BJDs as art and collectibles, unlike here where a lot of people get into dolls through smaller figures and through their love of anime. That's not the case with everyone, though. I'm a resin owner and fan of anime, and there are plenty of others as well.

DoA isn't for everyone, but it does have a huge amount of resources for doll owners, and for many people the marketplace alone make it worth joining.

DoA is a great forum providing that you keep to the rules and learn to understand the atmosphere of the forum. It's not an anime otaku-focused community and it's majority female, so it's a pretty different atmosphere to somewhere like this site and there are different standards for what is acceptable to discuss (i.e.: it's not really the place to be enthusing about a squeezable, extra-large custom torso piece). It's a great resource though, and its community has a huge amount of collective knowledge regarding just about anything doll-related that you can think of, with an impressive marketplace as well.

I also have an account there and will happily provide invites to anyone seriously interested in joining.

There are two good things about DoA: Meetup planning and the Marketplace. And the DD thread is nice. However, do understand: DD and Obitsu were "grandfathered" in. They have been giving the "Off Topic" stink-eye to the recent vinyl Yo-SD size BJDs that have come out of Chinese and Korean manufacturers. It's not a 100% friendly place for DD/Obitsu convo.

However, Dollieh Sanctuary is REAL friendly and worth hanging out at. They are Vinyl friendly and also friendly to Vinyl playscale figures like Dollfie Plus and Obitsu small-scale.

You can join there without an invite too! W00!

I am a member of the DoA. It doesnt focus just on DDs but a lot of other BJDs. (Which is good for me as I own Super Dollfies as well as Dollfie Dreams)
As a forum for exclusively discussing Dollfie Dreams its not the best - there is a Flickr Group for DDs which has a lot of contributors.
The best thing about the DoA are the tips/trick on customisations, faceups, etc and the fact that a whole lot of 1/3 scale doll clothes, wigs, shoes, accessories from other manufacturers also fit DDs.

I like browsing DoA for the meetups and marketplace (the latter has further requirements). Even though I only own DDs, I do enjoy interacting with other doll owners! I've gone to one meetup so far and it has been a great experience. Even though most are strictly resin owners, many are curious about DDs and how they differ. They're usually surprised by how light they are and how easy they are to work with.

I think I've managed to convince a couple folks that DDs are a far more economical way of creating customs since they have a lower cost of ownership. :)

I swear, every time I show up at a meet with my vinyl brood, I get so many wonderful comments. "So pretty...so different..." "OMG that's light!" "He's gorgeous!" (referring to my Obitsu boy) "Love that Anime look!"

My friend and faceup artist Biff now is owned by a Dollfie Dream v.1. The DD, Zandra, actually owns her Significant Other, but she did the re-faceup. I know others who have gone out and gotten DDs and/or Obitsus of their own after seeing mine.

Slowly but surely we are taking over the world of doll fanciers.

I'll echo those comments. I have now been to 3 Doll Meetings and I had a great time at all of them. I am on DoA and it wasn't so easy getting on. But after I was there for a bit, things got easier and like Ed and Ms. Geek said, the Marketplace and the Doll Meetups posts are where I spend my time.

Being able to meet people with similar interests is great and oh so much fun. This last one I went to, Sat. Nov. 6th, was great. Just like Ms Geek says, people are super excited to see DD's in person and have nothing but positive things to say. Yesterday at the meet, Yoko was the hit of the gathering. ^_^ She got passed all around for a onceover and everyone loved her. Rei also got a lot of attention as well since she was more moderately proportioned than Manami and Yoko were.

Yes, there isn't much action on DoA for DD owners since they are just "grandfatherd in" but I still use the forums to keep up with new friends, meetings and sales in the Marketplace. Hopefully you can get onboard and join up soon!

I still think that Figure.fm is THE place for DD owners to converse and share with each other... why go anywhere else? =3

When I first decided to really start learning about DD's so could eventually buy one I joined DoA. I quickly learned it wasn't really the best place to learn as it focused mainly on resin bjd. While the DD thread was very informative and fun to read, I don't find myself posting there often.
I follow some you guys on twitter, and have learned a lot more from that and joining figurefm and flickr. =)
I would be most interested in a forum focused on DD's or DD/obitsu if you guys star one =)

Other regions have their own DD centric forum, I have visited OTL and Baidu. In general I agree there is a lack of centralized location for DD centric forum that will enable easy archiving of valuable information. Twitter is a great tool to get connected with the other DD parents, no doubt about that. Though managing a forum takes a fair amount of work, keeping the site up and running, keeping out spams and scams, etc. Though my time is really getting stretched now, spending time on twitter, OTL, my blog and figure.fm basically consume my whole evening already :(
