MMORPG Discussion: One Player, Multiple Characters

The picture shows the login screens of two MMORPG titles where one player controls multiple characters.
In Granado Espada, one player can control three characters at the same time. It's possible for a player to either micromanage each of the three characters, taking turns giving commands to each, or to take control of one primary character while the other two follow the appropriate AI commands for their class.
And then there's Atlantica Online, a turn-based strategic/tactical MMORPG. A player controls a main character, and recruits mercenaries to assist that main during combat situations. The progression of the game is such that you will be eventually required to have the full party of nine (one main + eight mercs) in order to proceed in the game.
I used to play mainly one player-one-character MMORPGs and was never exposed to Final Fantasy until a brief time playing FFX-2 and Kingdom Hearts. But now I quite prefer MMORPGs where I can control several characters. New titles of this type are already in development.
What do you guys think about One-Player-Multiple-Characters MMO games?
(If you are interested, there is a more in-depth discussion of these two titles in four posts over at my blog, http://popgoespj.blogspot.com ; the title of the series is "Life After the Party".)

I suck at RTS, mainly for the fact that I can't concentrate correct amounts of time on the correct units...so playing more than one person would be sucky for me >______<
I actually liked the idea, since it's kinda unique. Anyway, I played Granado Espada until I reached lvl 80-ish and almost bored to death. I guess grinding is not my specialty anyway ^^
I prefer single character controls myself =P
I prefer playing an mmo where i control a single character. It just feels like there is more development and more of an rpg aspect if I am playing just one.
I like focusing on one character, but a much more important factor is whether it's turn-based or real-time. I can't handle playing turn-based - it annoys me like nothing else to see an attack coming and not be able to dodge. ^^;
