MG Sinanju Version Ka WIP + November Updates
So, I've been working on this Sinanju for a while now, it was on hold for a few months while I scraped together cash and interest to get it done. I got an offer to paint my friend's Justice MG last month and doing so really got me back into the mood to just finish this. I'm at the decal stage right now, and working on some other stuff for the holidays so I figured I'd post an informal work in progress and update post. Enjoy!

Shield right after painting. The gold will be done with custom die cast metal decals that I'm still waiting on.

Inner arm frame with hand painted detailing.

Little custom decal action, pre-MicroSol'ing.

More custom decal work. I found this mildly amusing.

Half the body is decaled!

Shot of all the non-assembled parts left.

Pre-posed legs and some of the armor.

Shield after decals. Metal decals shipped, should be here in a week or two.

In progress engine. My hand painting sucks.

Finished head.

One battle axe.

I took the Noel out of its box, it's not too worse for the wear after a year in storage. A little scratched in parts, and the wreathes need to be attached better, but it's kinda nice having the old fella back. I decided I need a better way to display it, and since I don't have the cash for another holiday suit at the moment...

We're going to have a diorama for it, my first attempt at one. This is just a ground test, made up of a sand, dirt, soil, glue, and water mixture brushed on. If it looks good when it dries, I'll cover the rest of the stand and paint some snow on, adding powder to stack it up in places. Looking forward to this one!
Well, see you next time.

Mmmm..love the redness on this one. Maybe because of the sparkles? lol. In any case, I'll be watching out for the rest of your WIP post. :3
Thanks, that's a coat of Model Masters primer, then Tamiya Gunmetal, then coats of Tamiya Clear Red in case you were curious.
Aside from the Exia and AE Unicorn, what other mechs have you worked on? :3
And wow at color techniques. lol, I'm still afraid to experiment with colors, and I don't think it'll be the same handpainted so yeah. D:
My first MG (and first custom painted) was a Strike Noir, but that...yeah let's just say it didn't occur to me to topcoat the pieces before assembly. I also spray painted them all on the runners (to be fair, I hadn't gotten my airbrush yet.)
It's dead now. I'll be redoing it later. Before that I did straight OoB of all the Gundam Wing mechs when I was like 12.
Since this is a christmas exia, it's GN particles should be bright yellow or white like snow. XD *free of GN intoxication ofcourse*
You know I kept trying to think forever how to scrachbuild a system that would actually look like blowing particles but I got nothing. But I agree, white GN particles would do the trick.
its getting there. do like how that red shines
Thanks, me too. Hopefully assembled it'll pay off. I can't afford metal parts for a long time now so I have to try to dandy up the stock engines with some nice painting. Chrome exterior, clear blue sprayed over chrome on the innards, and maybe a stripe of black along the rim.
I was going to say paint the gold parts, but you explained your self later that you suck at hand painting... I don't know, I can't use spray cans and can't afford an airbrush, hence I hand paint... Sometimes it goes really nice, while sometimes it is an utter failure...
Yeah, I got lucky and found a guy on eBay selling actual metal gold decals for Sinanju's gold parts. Like $15 with shipping and all, we'll see how they work out.
Also, the holidays are coming up, ask for an airbrush if you plan on doing a lot of kits! That's what I did, I got this one for Christmas 2009:

Not terribly expensive to save up for either, you'll save so much money on paint over cans and it looks beautiful when done. I recommend it for the future.
Nice job. That red is fantastic.
Thanks!
CAn you tell us what paints you used and how you got this to be shiney? thanks
Sure! Every piece was coated with Model Masters grey primer (it's a bit darker than normal primer). The red was done by doing a coat of Tamiya Gunmetal Acrylic over that followed by multiple coats of Tamiya Clear Red Acrylic to get the desired deep red effect. The frame itself was just straight up Tamiya Gunmetal Acrylic, the black was Tamiya Flat Black Acrylic, and the gold was Tamiya Gold Leaf Acrylic.
ah thanks, i had a feeling it was the old metallic + clear color trick.
Works like a charm.
i would like to know this...
diecast metal decal
how to apply them, and where to get them
I got them from a guy on eBay, but the name is kinda misleading, what they are aren't actually decals like waterslides but they're like metal stickers, makes them kinda tough to apply. The shield is giving me hell right now, and to get them positioned right I had to remove the clear plastic on top so they're covered with fingerprints.
It might be easier to just mask and hand paint but it was a nice little experiment for $10, if you want to try them still here's a link:

Don't get them, I'm officially saying now these things were a disaster. They all popped up and popped off after an hour. Not worth the hassle.
