MG Sinanju Version Ka WIP II + Noel Diorama WIP + Question
Just a little update now that most of the decaling is done and the assembly is beginning. The metal decals didn't work out on the shield at ALL, I tried hand painting and that just wrecked it so this kit isn't going to use the shield. The metal works alright on the armor though, but on curved pieces it seems to keep popping up at the ends no matter what I do. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I don't want to use modeling cement or glue because it'll eat right through the paint, but if I have to I guess I have to. Just wanted to hear some ideas.

I know there's supposed to be more gold around the cockpit area. It popped off and got lost in my room somewhere. Oy.

Coat one of the diorama, after applying the mud base I showed earlier I coated it with baby powder to get the white, let it dry for 24 hours. Next I decided to use DC23's method and mix baby powder with Future and brush it on.

After fully brushing on the powder + future mix, I gave it another healthy dose of baby powder over the whole thing. I think I've used so much of this stuff I have a permanent baby powder smell floating around me.

I sprinkled sand after brushing on a coat of the future/powder mix to get the fine crystals then added a few more coats of the mixture. Just have to paint and add trees and I should be good to go!

nice work!! how did u get the shiny gold??!!
They're a set of chrome gold metal decals I got off eBay, but they're really rough to work with :/
ur lucky to get it,it looks great!! the decals on my sinanju got torn off, so i had to hand paint it! it was soooo hard!! T_T
u can try using double tape on it!!
Huh. Didn't think of that. I'll give it a shot, thanks
Excellent colors! It looks lovely~ :3 Need to ask tho, what kind of red are you using?
I have no experience with decals, but I do think there's something to help you with your case. I think it's decal setting solution or something. There's two of them btw, the other one is used to take out the orange peel-ish effect, so careful about picking which one.
Haha its tamiya clear red over tamiya gunmetal. And I use microsol for normal decals but these are more like metal pieces with a sticky back, Microsol won't help sadly.
looks good, im in the middle of building mine.... broke the joint for waist and body >.<
lucky i have another kit ready on the side :D
btw, are the decals any good? are they dry or wet decals?
My joint broke too, I just got a wooden dowel that fit snugly and cut it to size. The decals are technically dry, they're more like stickers really but made of metal. And they're...they look fantastic but they're such a pain in the ass to apply and I'm still trying tons of methods to make them STAY stuck down.
try looking at spray on adhesive, i hear the one from 3M is good
Ehhhh I'm really hesitant on that. Usually that stuff eats through my paint hardcore, I'd rather not take the risk. Maybe I'll get a small can and practice on the shield.
...It just occurred to me "hey dumbass, spray the decal not the model." Wow I was stupid the other day.
Have you tried putting some soap and water under the decal? It'll let you slide the decal around until you get it just right. Then just let it dry for a couple of hours.
Very awesome gold decals you have there.. o__0
Awesome looking, yes. Awesome to apply? NO. I really wish I was good at hand painting, let me tell you haha.
well, from what your reply to me from your previous post, yep, those decal ARE not decal, they are metal etching, means, YOU NEED TO GLUE THEM USING CYANOACRYLITE, or super glue
and reading your post, you already realize, "this metal color won't be "snagged with any thinner, rather, it will get more shiny"
you will need to master super glue applying & paint stripping to use this kind of etching lol
applying glue to all designated area, and not leaving a trace of super glue, whether residue that need to be sanded, or white cyanonacrylite fog
paint stripping because you will be painting your kit with any color that is not etching color, then strip any paint on the etching without stripping any paint nearby
it can be done using beautician cotton bud (sharp pencil like cotton bud), or sharpened eraser after soaking it to a thinner you use to thin the paint you use
well, your deed is a study for me :), thank you :D
note : "do not apply etching after kit painted, apply it before painting, then clean it"
I'll give the superglue a shot but as my kit is already painted before I got the gold I'm instead going to be getting a toothpick and flecking off the paint where the gold will be applied and see how it works.
