More Malaysian Censorship.
Mon 2010/11/22 21:55 JST

Found something new today at Kinokuniya. If you think Malaysian censorship couldn't get any worse, well they just did. Not only now are they removing pages from the book they deemed "immoral" but Kino has the balls to charge more (USD43) than the price in Japan (USD25) to re-coup their shipping cost.
Bu when you think about it, it's a lot better this time...somewhat, at least they let you know you'll be paying more for less....

this is the reason i don't buy stuff from Malaysia, but seriously this is verging on the edge of ridiculous why would they do this to people??
because they don't care?
sounds about right
Actually, I think it's because they care too much.
if they cared actar would they not jus leave them in?? .... then again saying that is there an age limit on how old you have to be to buy them mags??
why bother trying to understand how they think? They're a bunch of hypocrites
Well, because such things are immoral and would pollute the minds of the public. Or something...
Warning, sarcasm detected.
Jeez....at least they should sell it for cheaper to compensate you for the stolen pages. Honestly, censorship these days of *virtual* naughtiness is really getting out of hand (and not just in Malaysia methinks....)
yup, and this what they do in that book http://www.figure.fm/post/en/19253/They+ripped+my+G+s+Festival+Comic+14.html
wow...damn, I didn't know you already posted about this and my condolences for your purchase >_<;; since they are taking it too f**king far!
well i preorder from kino, and i didn't know if they will ripped some page. but at least Kanade still safe
maybe, we should order online......
yeah amiami EMS is more safe, but more expensive i think. need more people for cheap shiping cost
YES EMS, its the only way comrade. Never trust fedex or blah blah blah. ONLY express is the way. Suggestion, why don't you guys ship stuff over to a place in KL or something every month have a CGM or something and exchange and give out teh animu goods? Easier said than done though, requires lots of trust.
search for some comrade is hard in here ^^"
Well, I'm for it but the problem is, how do we go about it? I mean, does someone because the seller and then order via website for everyone?
Wat about getting a few comrades together 3 or 4 to share shipping together for EMS? then basically get comrades her(im sure theres quite a few) to meet in KL or whereever to form 'shipping' groups and exchange information. Basically one is a middleman to order from websites.
I'm with firev1's idea. Sounds doable.
That would've been my first question - it would be terrible if they removed the dakimura o_o
probably didn't have enough brain power to process that XD
this phrase says it all.... lolx!!
The pricing structure has been around for many years. I used to buy game/anime/manga magazines at the local Kinokuniya way back then. I recall the prices are really jacked up.
For instance, weekly Famitsu cost 420 yen back then, which equates to about 6 Singapore dollars. The price would fluctuate up and down week to week (due to exchange rates, I guess), but I recall it was usually about 12 Singapore dollars.
That censorship thing has been around for many years as well.
hence no matter how much a gov claims t be democratic but when it comes to proving it, they always fall flats on their face...
well, Malaysia is first and foremost an Islamic country, no matter how progressive or secular it may claim to be. But its really modern and nice. Just maybe not too otaku-friendly.
nice? I live here and I don't think the people are nice, naive yes but nice? no...
You included, riiiiiiiight?
well, if I wasn't nice. I wouldn't care now would I? ^_^
lets be realistic here. I said tis once on a comrade blog, and I'm gonna say it here. stop whining about the censorship thing. it has always be like that and probably never will change. it's the law of your country so please just abide by them or try to find other methods of obtaining these magazines without censorship =/ if you feel that strongly about it, start a movement there or something, not just complain and suck thumb.
Hear hear!
I agree with that and infact there have been movements to bring about change...that is until the gov started to cracked down......
Is this a moral issue or a monetary issue?
Why do you think they 'censored' stuff like this? They might as well ban goods from other countries that considered immoral. Heck, they should even ban the internet!
Here, people still associate comics, any form or media, with children, & they afraid that it would get in the hands of a child. Hence, the 'control'.
Sure, other countries exposes their children to 'adulthood' when they reach puberty, but people here are still overprotective.
There are still narrow minded individual & there's open minded who doesn't know the meaning of MODERATION.
You do know there's cultural difference between M'sia/Indonesia/S'pore & Japan, right.
When some see's it as cool or art, some see's it as something immoral.
We appreciate them 'cause we understand, sad thing is most still don't.
Then again, why Kino selling damage goods?
Kino should absorb the lose when they decide to bring them here & the consequences.
Should it been censored?
Yes.
Is the method of censorship, & value, justifiable?
Heck, no.
I personally believe that no matter how bad the topic, one shouldn't censor it. If people find it offensive then don't read it.
Here's a question, is it still possible to order magazines and stuff (untouched) online?
yeah, if you order it online, then usually its a personal purchase. I'm not sure whether or not they have the right to censor those purchases, I mean, I haven't heard of such a case yet....
sadly, no. I remember a guy called to Customs for his figurine before but EMS has a much lesser catch rate compared to normal deliveries.
Well planing to buy anime magazines at Kinokuniya until you said it , So is it wise to buy one or buy some place else , I mean they could've just sell it at a higher price to avoid kids from buying them .
I'll buy the magazine for the moe pictures and awesome gifts though
some of us do and some of us don't but instead of trusting buyer's own judgement, these moralist take it upon themselves to enforce their version of judegment
Im surprised they didn't tear out the cover page lol
I think they didn't because they needed something to entice people to still buy it right?
Is it me, or these kinds of censorship stuff only occur in "religious" countries... (or perhaps moral?)
Regarding the prices, I think jacked-up price tags of anime/manga goods are prevalent in places outside Japan (save Hong Kong and Taiwan maybe..)
Nah, this shit happens to me here in Canada. Lost two doujinshi to our terrible laws.
again my condolences to yanipheonu >_< I'm all for free speech
Those magazines aren't even in U.S. kinokunias anymore. :C
well, that least they realized if they were going to censor it, they better off not selling it....what about online?
Just don't wreck the PVC figures, that's all I want to say
Amen to that! Also, moralfags should just leave on moderating pointless censorship, whether Muslim, Buddhists, or Christians.
Amen!
this is ridiculous =.=
agreed
