90 for 50: showsDoll's Dolfie Stand
DISCLAIMER: I've bought a couple of things here and there through showsDoll since the beginning of this year, but this is a review as a customer. I bought this stand for other purposes besides this review (obviously), without any discounts or other favors being granted for any reason related to this review. If this is a bit spammy, let me know in comments and I'll take it down...
Sometime during the AFAX 2010 fair, I took possession (finally) of a interesting new doll stand for 55-60cm dolfies from showsDoll. I had originally planned on getting a stand from Dolfie World (as seen on http://www.dannychoo.com/post/en/25515/Dollfie+World.html , costing HK$450 / S$76 approx. and no longer in stock, sadly) but showsDoll's first inhouse attempt at a dolfie stand cost just a little more than half that (S$40), but the latter has wound up doing 90% of what I wanted, which is pretty awesome (or at least makes complaining about what it doesn't do inexcusable to the reasonable)... Pics follow:

From Left to Right: optional stand camera tripod adapter for use on Camera tripod, standard stand platform with protective nubs on everything to prevent it from scratching whatever it's placed on, a pole and a saddle (adjustable) for holding 55cm/60cm Dolfies.

The camera tripod adapter has a hole on both sides. The stub normally screwed into your camera prior to fitting it into your camera tripod fits into the hole in the logo-printed side of the adapter in the same manner as with a normal camera. Note that both the adapter and the stand platform are being photographed with the logo side facing up - during normal use, the logo side should actually be facing groundwards for proper installation of the stand! ( I broke a stand platform during collection trying to screw the saddle and pole in from the logo-printed side, fortunately showsDoll folks were okay with replacing it FOC... just this once ^^;> )

The pole is actually hollow and is meant to hold the saddle. The height of the resulting combo is very adjustable and can probably accomodate 55cm Dolfies / Azone Obitsus just as easily as it holds 60cm Dolfies of any sort.

This is what the stand looks roughly after assembly is completed. The camera tripod adapter version is mostly the same, except that it's also fitted at the bottom to the camera tripod the standard way...

The only shortfall in the design of this dolfie stand is that the saddle is a bit more obvious, clamping in the way shown here to the Dolfie it supports. This is not necessarily a problem with the right clothes (I'm thinking skirts of all sorts here), but if having a big metal prong wildly visible in certain parts irks you, this may not be a stand you want.

Both versions of the stand are actually very stable despite their lack of weight when installed properly. Atiyaah stayed in this position for 10 whole minutes leaning quite a bit forward without crashing. On the 11th minute, though... I had to break the setup down because I had other things to do besides wasting more than 10 minutes writing a review in a hurry.

(You expected 'Atiyaah fell over'? Nope, still very near rock-solid. I just didn't have time to keep her that way. Or indulge your sense of what should occur in a world lacking in narrativum. ^^; )

That's a pretty reasonable price for such a nice stand! Wish they had it in stock right now. . . Agatha's using a really cheap stand right now, and it's not even saddle type, so I'd really like upgrade. DollfieWorld's is a bit out of my price range once I consider shipping though.
it's the kind that clamps on to the torso right? they all have their advantages and disadvantages - saddles are a bit unslightly more often than not when Dolfie not wearing something that covers them up.
Actually, it's a smaller doll's waist stand reappropriated as a thigh stand--a true waist hold would probably get caught in Agatha's butt-length hair. A saddle stand would be perfect for her though; she's very much a skirts kind of girl, rather Victorian influenced in her fashion sense. Guess I'll have to bookmark Showsdoll and check back periodically.
