Dead Quality Control + One Off ?
Okay GSC, what the hell ? First the shoddy QC on Anime BRS, now this ?! I'm used to the fact that non-major/non-nendo releases will have imperfections (Yui Inaba for one) but your meal-ticket sellers ?! What the heck happened here ?
I am aware that Hobby Search can be biased when it comes to taking pictures of major releases compared to others (like not taking BRS anime ver. out of the box and giving Yui bad lighting), but these errors really stand out, even with a decent setup HS decided to put up. Already paid for my copy through AmiAmi, so there's not much I can do now, just hope and pray that I get a piece that doesn't have blatant imperfections. I have the original BRS release, she got delayed (twice), but in the end the quality was practically perfect. GSC should have delayed Dead Master, I'm getting the feeling the quality is going to stand out next to BRS. I'll take pictures in two weeks when I compare her to BRS, I'm not paying the extra EMS charge this time.
This is the last time I'm buying a GSC product. Figures I have from a year or two ago look better than this recent crapfest.
Edit: There are some pics coming out that indicate that DM might not be as shoddy.
http://toycafe.blog129.fc2.com/blog-entry-390.html All angles in decent lighting. Although some strands on her hair might be cutting it close, it's not neon green. *whew* Foo-bar-baz posted up his recent loot, so hopefully he (might) have some pics up.

Cheap neon highlights and chipped wing. Bow possibly non-pearled.

Sexy seamline.

At least the highlights look good, dem wings.

Little specks everywhere ! That better be dust and not the actual product.

This copy looks pretty nice, lets hope the majority of the figures look this good.

this looks more like some sort of unpolished prototype rather than a final mass production type. @_@ hopefully this really isn't what the final type will be like....
The prototype seen at the recent cons looked much nicer than this.
then damn! we better hope this is just a lousy copy that was sent my accident for photo shoot @_@
uugh, they are getting more&more sloppy nowadays!! :(
Sorry to see.
I stopped buying GSC PVC figures when they started using that lighter/cheaper material.
I didn't think GSC's work would get this bad. I understand that mass produced products get issues, but this is unacceptable.
Understandable, especially with the exchange rates now.
I think I'm sticking with Alter now and I'm only going to get the BRS figures at a good price or second-hand still good price. Their quality control really is killing me....
This is shots from Hobbysearch and from the Prototype i doubt it will have these problems when produced en mass
I have an urge to sand this thing down..but it's no Gundam kit, so who am I kidding. T^T
dont even think about it!! ur regret it later.:)
It's just the perfectionist's itch. No need to worry as long as that doesn't get into my area of grabbing. xDD
you might as well saw off the figure into pieces, then strip all the paint, then sand, prime, and pin the figure, sand it again, and then try painting the damn figure again...
and to be honest, good luck with that
*expecting BRS garage kits* ;3
im starting to doubt GSC's figure quality .___.
I am disappointed :(
This is a shame, I was really in good terms with Gsc whn I had my perfect first brs figure.... And I was looking forward to the dead master one to accompany her... :(
Hopefully she'll go on sale, I'm taking an expensive gamble. Such a throll lol
I mean thrill. :P
seriously, if you are going to say that, then half of my nendos that I ever acquired were like that, so are my two Figmas, and my Alter Nanoha ALSO has it. I also believe my Ichiban Kuji Sheryl also has some seem lines (not to mention my Ranka has some shaddy quality issues for a "new" item > not bashing the person who got it to me, but will definitely be more aware of the store he got it from).
The seamline ?
and the paint spatter and stuff
This is the prototype. The mass-release product had already been posted in mikatan's blog and it look pretty much almost exactly the same as the master figure.
Will be looking forward to your comparison pictures! Either way, couldn't you cancel her if you don't like what you see in the prototype pictures?
Thanks Kodo (I'm actually getting a comment from the awesome Kodomut ! OMG.)
I'm taking a gamble here. Mika-Tan's sample seemed alright, even though HS's shot is an actual product release. Call it a combination of artistic and completest itch; I have wish to see them togehter.
I highly doubt it's the prototype.
HobbySearch usually takes pictures of the products when it gets into their warehouse, so this should be the final product.
Ouch! A bit too much green here....
I had to cancel her PO a few days ago due to lack of funds. I hate to say this, but I'm kind of glad.
Man, GSC is really losing their rep.
If Hitagi and UBW Rin come out shoddy, then I'll be out of hope. D:
Let's hope they recover their great rep with these two great figures. (Please oh please don't screw up on Rin. T__T)
omg! where did you find these pics? These are horrible... I hope the real thing is not like this. And then again I hope the re-release of original brs will not have crappy QC
Hobby Search, I find they tend to be very forward if a figure has flaws and let people know.
totally horrible QC by GSC I hope they wake up their idea now
I'm getting the feeling that GSC is in decline. Quality control issues have dogged them for a while now and then the issue with AmiAmi just really makes them look bad. With companies like Alter producing better quality products they need to get their heads on right or they will go under.
I must have missed it -- what happened with AmiAmi?
They blocked Ami from selling GSC products with discounted prices overseas.
That really left a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be ordering any more nendos or figmas after what I have on order arrives. Don't like being treated like an inferior customer just because I live outside Japan. Funny thing is that if I was in Japan on vacation, I could still order and get the big discounts.
What really?! RAAAAAAAGE!!!
Really?
I've been buying from amiami...I didn't notice any price change at al... Still the same discounted price...
Clearance Items, like the 1100 yen BRS Nendo.
Really hoping Hitagi won't have any major QC issues with the 2 month delay. Hoping your, when you get it, won't have those damn specks everywhere. At 1st I thought it was just maybe packaging dust but some of them have different color. ~~
What you said about HS pictures is true, I always freak out when I see those hideous pictures and then I'm really happy with the figure so I wouldn't worry too much.
I think someone needs a chill pill >_> production shots always make figures look bad.
Honestly, I'd probably still buy this figure. XD
if you mass product something. Special if first run you going have aspect some minor mistake. Nothing going to be perfect if aspect something perfect isn't going to happend. If made in the ten of thousand. Minor mistake are no reason to bash a company that made figures for us all. I had no problem with GSC there very nice people and no right to bash a company for such minor mistakes. special since no one even has this figure yet to see if this mistakes are on the final product
My point still stands, even if it is rather brash. If this is what they give us now, (especially with the BRS franchise being one of their main selling points); people are going to have a field day if Unlimited Blade Works Rin comes out having issues.
I'm not saying they have to be Alter (that would be nice), but they practically spit in their customer's faces with cutting corners with the prices they ask for. Their products have been getting progressively worse since last year and someone has to speak up.
Better they get their act together now, then find themselves in a bitter stance with their customer base in the future.
sometime when u see in picture and in the front your eyes is very different but in my opinion
gsc (good smile company and alter )this 2 company is the best for now to make any pvc until now
at least this death master not missing something like black rock shooter animation version missing star and we must put sticker
yeah but With BRs it still only little tiny stat and 99.9% poses you not going to see it anyways still not big deal
Not if your a figure photographer that uses good lighting.
^You're. Spelling fail on my part.
if good photographer you can hide little mistakes with the right lighting
Well, this is nothing new. :| GSC's quality has been failing since Saber Lily, probably earlier.
It's so sad how they can keep on doing this, releasing terrible quality stuff (that gets delayed a million times anyway), but I suppose the characters they use are too loved. (and I really don't see anyone but GSC making any BRS stuff.)
Definitely earlier, last year's release of WIM Miku was dismal. GSC was more focused on BRS and Saber Lily at the time, so I can see how it happened. However, pretty much of their scaled releases have had some sort of defect, whether it be seam-lines, casting, paint job, or whatnot. Only one Nendo I've had has had issues and that's where GSC has focus has gone to now.
I've been told not to be too concerned with one copy of HS stock, but FigurePhoto blog has released their shots with very heavy shadows, so now I'm more than just concerned.
*Wishes FooBarBaz would review figures again*
Foobarbaz stopped reviewing stuff? I've been out of this for a while, but I've always enjoyed his photos.
Not stopped completely, but very rare for him to put up reviews. He was on fire last year, dunno what happened now. :(
That's too bad. I used to somewhat jealous of all the figures he got to acquire, haha.
Most of the specks look more like dust to me. This is the downside to using a really nice camera with bright lighting to photograph mass-manufactured goods - every single little flaw or speck of dust is really visible and far more noticeable than it would be to see the figure in real life.
I'm not saying there aren't any flaws on this - obviously some of the stuff like the highlighting on the hair isn't great, and the seam line is unsightly, but I'm not sure photos like these are very useful for judging how the figure will look to the human eye, unless you like to examine your figures with a magnifying glass when you look at them ^^;
yes indeed ^^;;
My comment would be.... Wait for the real thing to arrive... It's too soon to judge..it's unfair to GSC if we decide that GSC quality control has dropped just by some badly taken photos of some initial prototype... it looked like a bootleg quality, even the janitor in GSC won't approve this to get on the market...as for the anime version of BRS...aside from the missing star on the chest everything else looks fine..I like it a lot!! It's my centre piece right now !!
well said i like my BRS too GSC is still best figure makers i will continue to buy from them no matter what the haters said about them :)
Seems that there's a lot of noise about GSC's QC. I'm praying for my GSC Sengoku Nadeko to come out nicely *praying feverishly*
it just noise. Little tiny mistake on frist run figures that never been made before by any other company is hard work making figures
http://www.figure.fm/post/en/19648/Dead+Master+Orignal+version.html the final product this are prototype pictures is this thread no green spot in final product or any mistakes have look at the final pictures for your self ^^;;
death master looking nice
GSC accidentally the quality.
