Your Jobs

I've seen a lot of loot posts around the websites, as well as a lot of comrades having multiples dolfies.
Was wondering what kind of amazing jobs you all have to be able to afford all this.

Mirai Gaia ( All Your Base Are Belong To Us )
I seriously wanna know too; I mean if you've got a nice paying job and indulge like crazy I can understand but seriously that many figures and dollfies without counting all the miscellaneous merchandise everywhere in the room, I wonder if they have a golden apple tree in their backyard.
I want to know where these jobs are also, with the economy the way it is especially.
i would too... especially those who are able to purchase a lot of them in a month...
agrees as well. and seeing as i'm a student i'm in search of the perfect job. Not too much studying required, hard work or time, but good pay (for my hobby life XD), allows me to travel (to japan of course), doesn't get me killed XD, and hopefully doesn't need a renewed degree every year or couple of years
haha, you should be a plumber. pipes are pipes. or work at a post office. You can drone the day away, watching the clock.
I'd say Yakusa, but you said you didn't want to be killed XD
Repairing computers pays for the hobbies usually, end of the month is usually hectic. Hoping this next paycheck from the workplace will cover everything, getting tired of seeing the safe mode start up and virtualmonde variants.
lol I have no job and my savings are down to less than 1k haha. I wont last very long. xD
Me too unless I get some jobs for winter break, I'm canceling almost all my pre-orders.
Fresh out of college and still looking for work as a graphic designer =w=
You and me both!
Me too ><
Spending money earned from when I had a part-time job ^_^. I'm a dedicated student now, so no income for the time being!
It seems like most comrades have jobs in the computer science industry?
Not sure if that's true, but I'm hoping a career in that industry can rake in the cash, because that's the industry I'm studying and preparing myself to go into. :D
Anyway, I'm a student. Without a job, because I'm not old enough and doing well in school is more important than making money right now.
I fund my hobby with monetary rewards from getting good grades. ;D
Computer science and the IT industry have always been a rather hot market. The minimum salary for any IT worker is generally around $50,000 USD and that by itself is very good starting off for someone entering the business let alone getting their first job.
The problem is, however, that there are a lot of people trying to get in because of that. Depending on where you live, the jobs may or may not be available, and where the jobs are it's mostly the senior experts that are given priority. Given the economy these days, employers (regardless of industry) are trying to grab hold of a large seasoned workforce.
Most of my relatives are in IT, having entered just as it started to boom. Considering how much they make in such a short amount of time, it's pretty crazy and makes me a little envious (The science industry is rather slow and takes years and years of study, research and degrees to get anywhere (^^;)) However, as glossy as the industry looks it's also extremely volatile and fluid.
One day you're doing fine, next day you're looking for another job because the company lost the contract your team was working on and they don't have another for transfer. If you're lucky, the winning company can take you along with it. Otherwise, well...I've heard my share of horror stories (xx)
It's also very competitive and sometimes you're better off working on your own than with a company. It's either the job security with an hourly wage/small commission, or a larger per job paycheck.
More or less. Most companies usually pay salary from what I hear, and if you get onto a good project then the pay out can reach near or exceed 6-figures so it is by no means small. Even if working hourly, you're almost guaranteed well-above the average wage of around $21 USD per hour.
The best place right now is the government (it usually is) and getting on the GS pay scale. Even if your project gets cut you'll get transferred over to another and moving across agencies is also a possibility. For IT professionals, you start off at a very decent Grade and can move up quickly. The only problem is you may end up capping quickly. Once at the highest Grade (G15) and Step (10), the only way to improve pay is going into Senior Executive Level (where you lose some job security) or waiting every year for the automatic ~1% increase...or moving to a city that has a higher adjusted percentage increase.
Then again...capping at over $155,000 a year isn't so bad (o.o)
Leeching off government bursaries for my university. >:3
But I don't spend like crazy tho..although I cave at times, then I pay a hefty price ($500 on this semester). I got my priorities straight tho, finish all the schoolwork before doing anything else.. Unless you count doing plastic crack (sanding Gunpla parts) as bad, my lifestyles pretty normal I guess. ^^;
I'm lucky enough to work as a Radiographer in San Diego. Being unemployed for 8 months
after graduation was a bummer. Had to cut back on all purchases during that period.
Living in my parents house also helps a lot since I don't have to pay rent( yet) and food.
I just pay for my share of the electricity( gaming PC and PS3 use up a lot) and gas.
Good thing the manager and staff from my last hospital rotation liked my work and personality
so getting in was a little easier. Xray techs make decent money so I'm happy with what I got.
Is the job market for that good in San Diego? I thought about going to school for that.
Unfortunately, the market is flooded with unemployed techs right now. There are only two schools in SD that
offer the program and they release about 40 grads combined every 8 months. With only a handful of job positions available every several months and all these grads getting out of school, I was lucky enough to get a job.
However, the market does fluctuate every 2 years( the duration of the program) so you might find a job sometime after you graduate. Good Luck.
You got that right
Edward!
For me I just saved up from working, about 3 years worth of savings but my room is not like the real otakus out there, most of my collections are still in boxes due to limited space in my room :( ..also living with parents helps saves a lot too.
In three months, I'll be out of a full-time job for ten years. Money comes from birthdays/holidays/rare influxes of money.
Beg your parents. Thats what i did when i was a little younger.. ;)
Student. Ergo... not enough money, not enough time to get a job that would take me XD they all want full time staff or times I can't work due to classes T-T
That's true! it's funny; my university has this website exclusively for its students listing all kinds of jobs, but most of them are either 1-a lot of hassle for mediocre pay 2-impossible for the majority of students since they ask for crazy hours like 9am~3pm, a time most of us are in class. Makes me wonder why bother posting the job if it's so inconvenient for the regular student.
I'm still a trainee. So to support my hobby, all I need to do is to cut some spending to maximize my disposable income. Well I don't mind cutting down my food :) Can't wait for next year - goodbye studying years, hello full-time working
Doing part-time jobs. Well the pay is not really good so just buy what i want. So up to now i only manage to get around 50 figures so far (start collecting a year ago), not much for boasting
I have a shit-tastical job (laundromat. You want a reason to murder half the population - work in one), live with my parents and .. well.. save as much as possible to buy my "crack"
I make three times what I have to pay in bills. I save a third. I spend the other third on loot.
I don't spend near what other people spend though, not because I don't want to, but because my hobby is so rare, that it takes time to find things I don't already own. Some times I can go months without a purchase.
I usually travel when I don't make hobby purchases. Japan, US, Korea, Taiwan, Guam (technically still US though), and heading to Australia in a month for Christmas/New Year's.
Sounds good.
i never felt the need for an exdraordinary lifestyle. I don´t like to buy brand name clothes because i think theyre as good as any other shirt that costs less then half.
I do like Shoes and watches, but not so much as i would go and spend a fortune on those especially since i can only wear one watch at a time i just have one but that one costs like a DD Saber ^_^.
When it comes to food i am a little more picky, i love to cook and i want quality engridience.
I work as a Food Scientist so i do earn enogh money to have my lifestyle, as well as support the hobbies i have and safe enough money on the side to be prepared for whatever.
Student....Not enough money to support my hobby and not enough for a good living situation XD
Its Oppai-Time Shinji!!
mmm jobless
I grew up being taught never to buy anything unless it's on sale. Sadly this affects my current buying habits with Gunpla, and I rarely get them because of it. Did manage to get an HG ReZEL Commander for ten bucks, once...
I work for the government and I am debt free. I put a good portion into savings but the rest I can spend freely.
Balance my funds..full work & part time job for my hobbies & want somethings worth..
I work for the government and live debt free. I put a good portion of my pay into savings and then a spend the rest on whatever I feel like at the moment.
I'm fairly new to collecting and I don't have anywhere near an many as other people.
But I'm working a part time job and going to college, living with my dad helps keeps the burdens down on money, but means I need to do more, like i got to feed him too (I hate cooking....)
I try to look on here now for neat figures I kind of wanted, and everyone is fair with the price, so it's really how I'm getting stuff now, ha.
but with my small room I'm running out of places to store the boxes (I love my box mountain hidden in a corner.)
I'm still a student.
I earn from internet.
Just enough to full fill my desires.
Temp employment, would freelance but depends... Technician/designer in a broad sense... So many to do these fields! XD
I'm that type of person who save money and be wary of what I spend. So you won't find me shopping every month. I used to shop for Gundam quite a bit, as I cut down, the more I save XD
Aaaand~ My lifestyle, pretty stable, need more clothes though, trousers, yes, need more. AND SOCKS! Someone stealing my socks... I'm down from 5 to ..2! XD
I work full time as a Registered Nurse, my income is sufficient to support my hobbies, my waifu and 2 kids. I'm not really into DD's, more on military figures and figma, which takes a big chunk out of my hobby money. When I am expecting a heavy month of loot, I do a lot of overtime to compensate.
I only buy a few figures a year D:
No job and a low allowance from parents + school = one hell of a life D:
but then again my social life keeps me from having a bad lifestyle :/
I work in a comic book shop so my wallet gets hit twice as hard. Dangerous stuff,heh ^^;
I work for a small ICT business in the UK and by small I mean like, three people, but I get enough I guess.
no job but can still buy a few figures
inb4 mooching off rich parents
I live with my parents and pay only a few bills plus gas and food. I can put some of my money into anime and games. Still, its not like I have a LOT of stuff or anything.
I'm a student at University atm. not working
Studying Computer Science!
Actually I'm network support engineer / sysadmin. ^^;
I'm graduated at computer engineer course.
I don't actually have enough money to have a daughter Dollfie... ^^;
I only have few nendoroids... ^^;
I don't make a ton of money, but I will always find a way to get the loot I want. I don't have a poor life style either, I just make sure I can pay my bills, save a bit, then have fun with the rest. :D
I'm in the army now (141 days behind, 39 days to go). Income's about 130e/month and most of it goes to alcohol and tobacco. No Dollfies for me. Maybe in 2011..
currently doing my postgraduate studies... living off the scholarship i received from my university. i live with my parents, and apart from phone bill and car payment, the rest are mine to squander :-p
no money? dont worry.. there is the money tree in my backyard~~~
lol na.. just money from working parttime =( full time student here
Australian Dollar is 1 for 1 with US Dollar
and Australias Minimum wage is 3 times Americans Minimum wage
therefore , majority of Australians have alot more to spend on
Current US minimum wage for non tipped labor is $7.25. So you're saying someone could get a job flippin' burgers and get paid $21.75 AUD?
0_o
yes , someone at the age of 19+ at McDonalds gets 21AUD an hour
0_o
Is the cost of living higher in Australia? That seems like an absurd amount of money to pay for minimum wage.
yeah it all balances itself out
A Can of Soft Drink Ranges from 1$ - 1.80$
A Large McDonalds Meal Is Like 6-9$
A Return Train Ticket of a far distance is 5-7$
however if we were to convert it to USD , we'd be earning alot compared to you guys . however our living standards kinda justify our minimum wage etc
I consider my lifestyle overall to be quite good. On the other hand, my loot per month is pretty small, since most part of my income comes from my parents. Because of that, a great part of my collection (which is not that big itself...) is basically composed of gashapon, since they're cheaper and I like miniatures anyway. And some of them are pretty good - take S.I.C. Takumi-Damashii line as an example.
But I'm planning on starting a part-time job for college next year, so I should have more money for my stuff. And as I live with my parents, I won't have to worry about paying (most of) the bills. =P
I actually work in the public sector in the Uk for the Nhs as a pharmacy technician and theatres based tech, so i earn way more than ive ever been able to spend. Plus i was lucky enough that for the 1st few years of work i lived at home and saved 70% of what i earnt as i had no room to buy anymore stuff ><
Whoever says the Uk economy is buggered and cant find a job your not looking hard enough :) try the NHS :P
True enough, well said comrade!
I have a simple desk job. Nothing really special. I get enough for my hobby, but I'll admit that some periods of the year are harder to combine hobby and payin bills (like the periods of Comic Market)
I am poor because of my hobby. ^_^
Back when I was working, I had excess amounts of disposable income. Though, I still live at home with my parents, have only a few bills and don't spend money on extravagant things. Even if I were loaded, I don't think I would. I'm not into jewelry and fancy clothes. Other than not working at the moment and still living with my parents, I'm pretty happy with my lifestyle as it is.
well at the mo I'm working in a hotel kitchen.... I just do what I'm told most of the time I don't paid that much anyway.... its crap job... sadly Im having to put my hobby on the back burner for a bit I'm in the same boat as Syzich stuck at home with my parents and wanting to move out and get my own place.... so thats one reason why the hobby's are on the back burner.... another good reason is I need to save up 3k for a cause that I will be starting next year.... so money is tight!!!!
Last year I bought a bunch of gundams. I got like 35 of them including the 1/100 and MG. Plus 4 transformes figures so I guess I had 39 collections in total. But since I still need money and that being a filipino who works, still staying with his parents helping them out in emergency financial issues, brother's tuition back in the motherland and saving for another college life *can't I just stop since I already finished college?!" I have to be frugal about it. Besides I got no bills to pay nor taxes yet, so I should save and save often, and buy and buy less *on the things that I want ofcourse*
Oh, have I mention that I have 12 extra model kits unassembled due to overpopulated shelf space. :-3
WOW! Samurai Pizza Cats! LOL
I don't have an extravagant amount of money, but when you are just a kid and dont have many bills, that minimum wage job money adds up for some serious loot. I don't really buy much else due to the fact that I am not really into jewelry or fancy clothes (unless cosplay is involved :P), though I'm a girl, so it all goes into my hobby or my savings.
I'm a student currently, so a LOT of my spending is pretty much on hold or way toned back. The only way I was able to afford my DD was by pooling money from Christmas and birthday gifts, and even then haven't bought any Figmas or scale figures since 2008. I've also cut back on other stuff, for instance I've been buying all my books--textbooks and fun ones alike--used whenever possible, been frequenting secondhand stores for both my clothes and stuff to tear apart for my DD, etc. But then again, I'm not a fashion bug, very rarely have to get a book right when it comes out, and channel my figure desires into reasons to sculpt. =P Basically, if you get more flexible with your money, you can get more out of it.
I live off my parents, so I don't buy much stuff.
Military officer with additional skill sets...government pays me well to stay in the service... ^^;
i started with my blog, and all the advertisments pay me for their ads to be in my site. thats about it :3 and i try to get my parents to get me stuff...never really works though >.<
I have a job washing dishes in a little cafe, for £30 a month. I usually prioritise my money, which is usually something like:
Tips = Cigarettes (about £3 for a week's worth)
Actual money = £10 Going out money, and £20 for dollfie fund
