Gorgo Moving to Mac
This monday my 2003 laptop decided to leave me... forever. So the problem of a new computer filled my head quite heavily with a lot of question, model? brand? how big? and the processor?
But than, like a thunder in a shiny day the idea... why not a Macbook? I've been a Pc user sice forever, i remember like yesterday my first 286 at 16 Mhz.... Ah!
And so follwing Danny example i decided to try become a Mac user and i decided to take a 2.53 Mbp 13" with 4Gb total ram.

Totally free Snow Leopard disk inside!

^^ 4 of my little friends... off topic but i'd like to show them to you all!

Nice. I hope you have fun using your new Mac. I'm still a pc user and would only change to a mac whenI have the money to do so.
thanks! i'd like to post more photos... but i'm having some trouble...^^
Done... one photo at time
I'd only switch to Mac if I got one free... dont like the interface... too used to Windows... And Mac's have the 'close', 'minimise' buttons on the left not the right... and theres only one button on the mouse.... couldn't deal...
But :woop: 4GB of ram! NIIICE!
Well the interface will took time to get used to it for sure. but the mouse can be 3 button with no problem.
I have been using mac for years (well since I used 16 MHz as I stated in my comment). I moved away from the single button mouse years ago. OSX can handle any number of buttons just fine. Somebody once gave me a 5 button Microsoft mouse and it works just fine. I'm not actually using it right now because it's big and bulky (just like Window :P) but it works. Likewise I once connected an Apple mouse Pro (or whatever the name was) to Windows XP and it detected it and worked just fine with it. Missing right mouse button in Windows is a more severe issue than getting extra buttons in OSX though ^^
Mighty mouse even has two buttons so the mono mouse mac is actually a thing of the past (except maybe MacBook, can't remember)
err... it's called "Apple Pro Mouse". I should look around instead of just writing something. The mouse in question was lying 5 cm from my monitor when I wrote the comment before ^^;
No OSX mouse preference functions are the same on both desktop and laptop Macs. The touchpad and multi-touchpads on MacBooks and MacBook Pros can be configured to function just as they would in Windows. The mighty mouse actually has four buttons. ^^ Yes, those old "scare people from using a Mac" tactics are quite sad.
You have chose wisely, welcome to the mac community ^^.
Have fun with it! It may take a bit of time to get to know all of the features, but once you know them you will see that working on a mac is much better (at least in my opinion ^^;)
Funny, I used to use a 16 MHz computer too. However in my case it was a PowerBook 100, which had a 16 MHz 68020 CPU and it was extended to have 4 MB RAM and a 40 MB 2,5" SCSI HD. Looks laughable today that people really used something like that but to me it was a major upgrade. It even had a HD! Come to think of it, PowerBook 100 was released in 1991, which is now 18 years ago... and it was my 3rd computer.... now I feel old >_<
Well the past is the past and we should consider the present/future instead. I see that you are happy to get the computer, but I would prefer to know if you like it after you tried doing all the stuff you normally do on a computer. Getting used to a new system can give you some surprises. Personally I will most likely stick to OSX for quite a while because Windows lacks bash. Linux wouldn't be out of the question, but... well it's OSX since that's where I have my software ^^
Speaking of software.

That's two good links to get freeware/shareware for mac. The first is everything while the latter is games. Sometimes games only show up on the latter though.
I feel quite old too ^^ thinking of my hardware background lol. Thanks a lot for the links, they will help!
Welcome to the world of Mac, hope you enjoy using your MBP!
i got the same one about a month ago and it came with an Ipod touch as a bonus :)
i missed the white body
sugoi sugoi, i also want a mac >X<. Good luck with yours ^^
Thanks ^^
Congrats with your new MBP! :D I also want the same model, but I don't know if I "need" the specs.. Not sure, but is the hardware an overkill for media and games? My brother has a macbook (entry level), but it can handle Protype (game) just fine.
Well this is an entry level and i don't think is worth as play machine, i mean the videocard is pretty decent but i wonder how your brother could play Prototyp O_o.. maybe he got the one with the 9600 and dedicated ram...Just wondering...
Enjoy your new MAC!! ^^;
Sticking to windows...
*Loves Windows 7*
You can install Windows on mac if you really want to. The question is why would anybody do that once they got to know OSX? ^^
Ok, I can dualboot because I happened to have an unused XP license anyway (MS once handed them out to hundreds of students to convince them to talk good about Windows once they are done studying and have jobs) and it's useful for VNs, which tend to be windows only.
Congratulations, I'm sure you'll love it. I have a current model MBP myself, it's a beautiful machine.
