Early December MEGALOOTS

Posted by Y1ØNRDY [www]

Last Friday, I got a disturbing phone call from my mother at work. She told me that two enormous boxes had arrived for me and she said it with a distinct undertone of fear. As though I had obviously spent too much money on something and that my obsessions might be getting the better of me...

Turns out... She was right.

Early December MEGALOOTS

First up we have Grands 1/7 Icaros PVC from the anime, Sora no Otoshimono.

Mouseover = load notes.
Early December MEGALOOTS

I had never owned a figure by Grands but as soon as I saw the pictures when the preorder went up I knew I had to have her. Let me tell you that this is a 9.5/10 figure. Everything from the sculpt by Tadao Kouno to the paint job is PERFECT. At 1/7 she is extremely impressive and the detail is absolutely phenomenal.

Next in a similar vein we have the uber-cute super-deformed Icaros made by none other than amiami themselves.

Mouseover = load notes.
Early December MEGALOOTS

amiami is primarily an online figure giant but occasionally they bless us with a figure and EVERY TIME IT IS A MUST-HAVE. After the Grands figure this Icaros' diminutive stature can't help but stand in its shadow but I digress, this is still a great little figure. Every bit as detailed as a Nendoroid but without the articulation. Sculpted by Kopzuki Hajime. Cool piece.

Then comes the long-awaited Nodocchi by Alter. Nodocchi is one of the main characters from the moé mahjong anime, Saki.

Early December MEGALOOTS

As promised we get a top notch job by sculptors, Makio Munetoshi and Houjun Otoyama.

A close-up of her angelic face. This figure is on my desk in front of me and she really just puts me at peace with the world. Ahhhh, that feel.

Up next is Kotobukiya's Mina Tepes from the loli-vampire epic, Dance in the Vampire Bund.

Mouseover = load notes.
Early December MEGALOOTS

As you can see, Kotobukiya is continuing to rise to the occasion in terms of quality. The inclusion of a red velvet drape for her throne was a nice touch for our favorite vampire queen.

The latest addition to FREEing's 1/4 scale Lucky Star line arrives in the form of Minami Iwasaki.

Mouseover = load notes.
Early December MEGALOOTS

Minami is quite impressive. You don't really realize HOW FREAKING BIG 1/4th scale is until you own a figure this size. FREEing spares nothing in terms of beauty in their sculpts for this line.

The fourth in Alter's K-ON! line finds Tsumugi Kotobuki looking as demure and lovely as ever.

Early December MEGALOOTS

Every bit as adorable as her previously released bandmates, THIS IS the definitive Mugi for figure collectors.

Just look at how faithful they are to even the smallest of details. Her keyboard is an exact replica of the Roland she plays in the series.

Not to forget my shounen roots, my Saint Seiya Saint Cloth Myth Dragon Shiryu arrived along with all my girls.

If you're not a big fan of removing figures from their boxes, Bandai ships the Saint Cloth Myth line in wonderful window box format.

I believe in figures achieving their destinies. Here is Shiryu in his early Bronze Cloth.

I'm not unboxing my Max Factory Makinami Mari figma yet. I have Rei and Asuka on order as well and I haven't decided how to display them so she's gonna hang out on the shelf for a while.

Hot on the heels of Set 01 is Set 02 of the Angel Beats! Nendoroid Petit series.

Mouseover = load notes.
Early December MEGALOOTS

These are some of the prettiest Nendoroids yet at this size. I recommend the figures as fervently as I do the series. Really, if you haven't watched it - please do. It's excellent.

Early December MEGALOOTS

Also by Nendoroid (via Gift) is the Nendoroid Plush of Aya Shameimaru. She's fully articulated and comes with a maple leaf (lol?) and her trusty camera.

The Shirai Kuroko dakimakura by ACG. I went ahead and bought the dakimakura with the cushion and I'm quite glad I did. This is a slightly larger pillow than I am used to. Excellent quality. Reverse has Kuroko in her micro-bikini!!!

Early December MEGALOOTS

Continuing with the Railgun theme is the Pureneemo Mikoto Misaka doll by Azone.

Mouseover = load notes.
Early December MEGALOOTS

Consistent with EVERYTHING Azone puts out, she is gorgeous. I am noticing slight upgrades in the design of PureNeemo bodies as I add more the my collection. While having the same number of points of articulation, Mikoto is slightly more limber than her predecessors. If you haven't gotten into Azone dolls yet, do yourself a favor and buy one. They will ingrain themselves in even the coldest of hearts.

Early December MEGALOOTS

Speaking of cold, Mikoto's sisters got a peek at their Christmas presents before I could wrap them. Little rascals!

Ripo-chan implored me to let her have hers early.

Then, of course, Miu started bargaining with me.

Early December MEGALOOTS

...but it was really Nina's expression that did it. She actually started crying!

Early December MEGALOOTS

What can I say? I'm a big pushover!

Red.

      Which is not surprising since these are produced in a relatively limited run. I believe they were sold out through pre-orders.

      Yeah, I think I have a bit of a problem. Is there a 12-step program for plastic addicts?

      I got into this line a little late. Now I find myself going back and tracking down the others on the secondary market and that is not fun for my already maxed out wallet. Still, they are fantastic.

      The Alter version is easily the nicest one. If you want to own a Mugi figure this is the one to get, for sure.

      The armor is a mix of die-cast metal and plastic with the smaller pieces being plastic and the larger one being metal. It's actually REALLY fun to put these together. As a GUNPLA enthusiast, slapping these together is a breeze but it gives you that "HEY! I JUST BUILT SOMETHING!" feel when you're done.

      Thank you! Yeah, the Winter duds were way too cute! I had to snap 'em up while I could. It's kinda the cool thing about dolls, too. When you get them an outfit change it's like having a whole new figure to look at.

        This is the only real photo taken of this that I've seen, so I know it's real... May I, perchance, ask of the site you got this from? I was too late getting into the Pre-Order line at Hobby Search and Otacute, the only navigable sites, aka in English, and would like to consider other options on acquiring this piece, should they get sold out before I get the chance... Please and thank you.

      Storage is an ongoing issue. I have two full-size display cases which are already waaaaay past maximum capacity. My collection has started to spread from my room to the rest of the house. I saw some nice ones that Ikea has last week which I BELIEVE will be somewhat more economical in terms of space. I can probably fit 4 in my room in the same space I have 2 now, and double up on the display space.

      Short answer: YOU MAKE ROOM! LOL.

    I got Grands Icaros figure too. Her box is HUGE!! The sculpt is amazing. The paint job on mine is nice but not perfect, she has a tiny green dot of paint next to her nose >_< Only noticeable if I look at her from very close from a specific angle though, but still annoying.
