Gunpla Weathering - Help wanted

I currently started painting my MG kits and I am looking for some tips on weathering. I am trying to build a weathered down Zaku 2F, but I cannot understand the methods used from some of these kits. As well as some tips on damage, risky but I want to place metal scars and scrapes on my Zaku.
(Pic of a painted Zaku 2 F2, I didn't paint the dark green part but added a bluer green to the rest of the kit. The shield and shoulder are even darker than the arms, legs and head.)

I hope it will help. Just an advice. I think you should practice weathering on other stuffs, specially not on a MG kit.

I messed up the pastel weathering along the way so it's didn't turn out as well as I expected. The physical damage came out well though. Soldering iron for the shot marks. For physical scratches I scored the plastic with a metal file and painted.
You can create the apprentice of paint deep scratches by using light dry brushing, http://otakurevolution.com/content/laymans-gunpla-guide-dry-brushing
You can also use a sponge to create a chipped paint effect. Dirtying up a kit can be done with pastels, weathering sets, or Gundam weathering markers. The tutorial isn't complete, but you can read up on it here, http://otakurevolution.com/content/laymans-gunpla-guide-weathering
