My Anime Club's Swap Meet 2010

Posted by Coolmikeol [www]

Hey everyone! Just want to share some pictures from two semesters worth of Swap Meets we had from this year. At my Japanese Pop Culture club named “AnimeFX”, we have our swap meet semester annual event where anyone can sell their unwanted “collections of anime, manga, wall scrolls, games, figurines, doujinshi, and other goodies that they have built up over time with fellow nerds.”

These first few pictures are from our most recent Swap Meet from the Fall 2010 semester.

This was the Pokemon corner as I call it, because this was where the majority of Pokemon related goods were being sold; Pokemon cards, Pokemon plushis, etc.

An Anime Club Swap Meet is not complete without someone selling their figures.

Just to show how random the items were for sale were. It was like a garage sale being held in a classroom.

Close up of some more stuff for sale.

The following pictures from here are from the Spring 2010 Swap Meet event.

A whole bunch of Mario related mini figures. I got myself a matching Mario and Luigi ones.

One of our sellers had a load of retro VHS anime tapes. I don't think he sold much of these.

UPDATE 10/8/2011 - Check out my anime club's swap meets in 2011 in my post: My Anime Club's Swap Meet 2011

I enjoy my club's Swap Meet as it allows me to see all sorts of different Japanese Pop Culture related items that I have. I realize that compared to most members in the club, I have nothing, but I don't really want to have too much stuff accumulate over time. All I want is a few quality items that will stay relevant to the current times. Also money is an issue for me.

This is actually a great idea to sell that stuff you don't want anymore! I wish my club did stuff like this, but the only thing they do is watch 3 hours of anime and once in a while give away the posters they make D:

It'd also be great to find retro stuff or things/series you weren't aware of. The VHS in particular I'm very fond of. They aren't very efficient storage-wise, but the nostalgia is more than enough to collect some.

Hmm that's a shame. Your club should have events and a variety of activities to do than litterally having to watch anime all the time. At my club we have two rooms, one is where we have the general break room where people can socialize, play games, etc, like a real world forum. Our other room is our viewing room where we show unlicensed anime. A couple of activities we do besides the swap meet is karaoke night, the one I'm in charge of, we also have panels every so often, and outings to cons when they come around. Overall I think my Anime club, while not perfect, is variable and fun.

      I didn't join my anime club because I know people will be stupid and I will probably spent hours correcting people how to pronounce "anime" and other random words. >.<;

Oh wow, that's the entire set of the Oh! My Goddess OVA series. It's one of the earliest anime series I started watching and one of my most favorite, really brings back memories.

I even bought the anime artbook and manga-sized books that had colored cells from the OVA. Yeah, was really quite crazy over it.

Someone in our club bidded for that for $50. The starting bid wasn't even that big but he is a big fan with money to spare.

Are you a student around SFSU? Then you should check us out. We will probably be open again early February for the new semester.

OH nice, another SFSU comrade. I never knew that the anime/Japanese pop culture club at State did a swap meet, a very clever idea.
