Rorschach's Room
Here is my entry in Danny's latest giveaway. Besides moving figures around a bit, my room has undergone only one significant change since my Otacool post from July of 2009 (watch the time just fly by).

Studies (that I am making up right now) show that people my age only read about 75% of directions on websites. On first pass I missed the part where Danny asked us to include dannychoo.com on our screens. I caught it upon second reading and here it is (with figure.fm for good measure).

Here is the new addition to my room. These are very old family photos I asked for from my aunt. On the right are my father's parents. On the far left are his mother's parents. 2nd from left are his paternal grandfather with his four sons.
Obviously this has nothing to do with otaku culture but it has everything to do with me.

One other family-related photo before getting on to the figures etc.
These are antique maps showing the lands of my origin. From left:
Denmark (the origin of all of the people in the family photos above and therefore all of my father's ancestors)
England
Scotland
Russia

What I have taken to calling my "mellonpan" shelf.

Another shot of my desk area (this time in natural light)

Same as above with flash

A figure's-eye view of the desk

More or less the same as above

that waffle sphere shelf is amazing!!! :D
Thanks. Someday I will organize the figures more carefully. Since I didn't want this post to be "adult" I had to move a couple of figures into storage...
Sweet room. That figure shelf is really cool. Also, it's nice to have some plants to give some life to the room.
Thanks and I totally agree about the plants.
Sweet setup. Almost looks like this monitor is floating, lol.
Thank you! I tried really hard to achieve the "floating" look. Glad you noticed!
Irma..You've got good tastes.
If they ever come out with a figure of her I'll get it (so long as they don't screw it up).
this is a really neat shelf, actually. did you buy it somewhere or had someone design/build it for you?
Thanks.
I work at a stone company and up until about a year and a half ago one of our employees was a master carver from Germany. She decided to pack her family into an old VW van and travel across country (that's a big story all by itself). Her husband is a master carpenter. He built this shelf based on something he saw in a museum. When they left for their trip they auctioned off their custom furniture for traveling money. I bought this shelf.
Installing the shelf was a huge series of misadventures. The two large vertical elements hold all of the weight of the shelf and are mounted to studs. Except I measured poorly and only the left one is in a stud. When I drilled holes for the right piece I shorted out the electricity to my room (a total fluke as it turns out but still...). Once that got fixed and I patched and mudded the hole in my wall I painted with the wrong color (I had the paint people match the color from the inside of the drywall piece I brought to them). Now I have painted the wall properly and stocked the shelf with figures so it looks just like I imagined it when I first saw it.
(I tell the story above to anyone who asks for my help with their handy work. They don't ask any more.)
Still, after all that, it turned out great! :)
Ha! Thanks.
I think it turned out pretty well, too.
I remember those shelves! They are excellent.
