December/Christmas Loot

Posted by Raharu [www]

Happy New Year, comrades! With the holidays over, and having one day before I have to return to class, I thought I would share with you the stuff I received/acquired during December and Christmas.

It's been a long time since I've gotten a new camera (6 years), so I am ecstatic and very thankful to have gotten a new one. All of these photos (with the exception of the camera itself, obviously) were taken with the D3100 and Kit lens. I am new to DSLRs so forgive me if the pictures are not of good quality.

Decided to upgrade my processor to this Phenom II X4 925. My board's max TDP is only 95w, so this was the only one within my price range to acquire. The 6MB L3 Cache is nice for gaming.

Some attempts at a type of photography I've always wanted to do: Long Exposure. This was in-front of my house, and I believe the exposure was about 1 minute. I don't have a good tripod or a remote shutter at the moment. I'm still a beginner, so the results aren't too great. I like the colors, though.

In my backyard, with another one minute exposure.

To end it, here is my attempt at making an HDR with Azusa as a test model. Not too good of a result ^^;

    Nice loots!

    Interesting long exposure shot composition. I do quite a bit of it myself at night and it's great fun.

    As for your HDR, honestly, the scene you picked doesn't need HDR hence the mediocre result. HDR doesn't give you a better image all the time. It has to be in the right time and place.

      Thank you for your advice! As I have said, I am still new to DSLRs and I do hope to improve my knowledge as time goes.

    I was tempted on getting on getting a D3100, but it didn't have AEB (Automatic Exposure Bracketing). In the end, i got a Pentax K-r.

      Yea, that is a bit of a pain that it is missing that feature, since it would be pretty useful in composing HDR (Or so I have heard).

    The D3100 is a great camera, I think it'll be a pretty good introduction to the DSLR world.

    One thing I'd suggest is getting a different bag, the Nikon one tells thieves exactly what's inside, and it's too big for a small camera body with just two lenses. You could check out Crumpler and Domke, both make great bags that don't really look like camera bags.

      Hmm.. I never thought about that. The bag came as a bundle, so I figured 'why not?' But I will look into those two brands, as I would not want my shiny, new camera to be a potential theft target T-T Thanks for the tip!
