MSN-06S Sinanju

Posted by cmos [www]

Hi all,

This is the last gunpla I built this year, the MSN-06S Sinanju. This MG is just mean... both to look at and also the amount of work needed to build it. It took me around 3 months to paint and assemble (I'm a slow worker... lol) but the end result was very satisfying. I used Tamiya spray cans (TS-series) for the paintjob, which consist of mostly clear red. I got to be a bit careful when posing this fella since I did not use any top coat to seal the paint/decals in.

This pose was inspired by a figure.fm entry by one of the regulars during previous gundam giveaway contest. It was a really badass entry by yunamon featuring a Gundam Crossbone mimic-ing a Storm Rider pose. I had to give it a try as well... hope you don't mind... ^_^

I started late on gunplas, and I have about 5 models at the moment after jumping aboard the Bandai ship about a year ago. Other than sanding... I would say it's been great fun ;)

Very nice paintjob, is there a metallic base under the clear red? or is it just clear red ontop of the plastic?
Also I love the internal skeleton, some sort of metallic black? How was that achieved?
But wow, i'm seeing quite a few very impressive Sinajus and this is one of them.

Lelouch Lamperouge : The gold parts were handbrushed on.
Kushieda : I sprayed a layer of Silver Leaf onto the bare plastic, before putting on 3 layers of Clear Red. The internal frame was sprayed with Light Gunmetal ;)

ed142 : I extracted some gold paint from a hardware store gold aerosol paint can. I then used this to hardbrush the gold trims.

Would you recommend Silver Leaf + Clear Red rather than White Primer + Metallic Red?

I have the primer + metallic red combo and im skeptical about it

Hi zero_four. It depends on what kind of a look you're looking for. The silver leaf was used so that there is a reflective base for the clear red which is transparent. This gives it a 'juicy' looking glossy red which looks almost like wet paint. Using white primer + metallic red (not translucent) would give it a more metal looking red; sorta like anodized steel, which would look cool too. It really boils down to your preference.

Thanks am. The red look is achieved with a single base layer of Tamiya silver leaf and 3 coats of Tamiya clear red. You should be able to buy these Tamiya spraycans (TS series) at any good hobby shop which stock gunplas ;)

Waahh? Really? The problem with my Red Frame is the Red gets scraped off a bit whenever it hits another part! That's why I had to apply a topcoat! Did you experience that problem too?

Yeah man... plenty. I had to touch up the scraped bits everytime I reposed the Sinanju. Then I got sick of it and left it in one position in the display case and haven't touched it since... hahaha...

Yep, I saw many variations of the Sinanju bro but yours rank among the top 3. You have the concept of the sleek, glossy, wet paint-look. If that were a real gundam, I wouldn't send it off to battle. Hehehe...
