My Trip to SF's Japan Town – Dec 18th
Our December trip to Japan Town (in San Francisco) was planned quite a long time ago. We were all somewhat disappointed with our last few trips and decided that this may be our last. Read on to see how this trip went.

As always, we went into this market after we got off the Muni. We all like the location of it, very convenient. ^ ^

Looks like they put up Christmas decorations. Didn’t expect a plain market to do so.

Wall of Snacks.

Anyone ate these strings of small packets before? The pictures & colors always makes it tempting to buy but I remember that the tastes were so-so.

The main attraction of Japan Town is in sight. :3

The Peace Pagoda. Specking of which, we didn’t sit under it at all this time. Probably because it was cold and about to rain…

The 1st thing that I noticed in the mall was that they put up a Christmas tree. Looks nice, decorations always add to the holiday spirit. ^ ^
I then asked my friends where do they want to go & the majority headed straight for JPN Toys. They even sprinted. >.<;

Entrance shot. Apparently they moved 1 store over since the last time (October). Small change but I actually like the new spot a lot more.

One of the store’s window. Doesn’t look very interesting to be honest. Below are some shots around the store.

I find it funny that these hobby stores are packed full with figures & toys, yet they never seem to have any thing that I am looking for or am interested in. Quite a shame, really.

Swords, now with 200% more ninja! One of my other friends wanted to tag along & buy a sword, but he chose to stay home & save up to buy a Christmas present for his family. I wonder how did that went?

Too much keychains. ^ ^;

The previously mentioned friend has 1 of these shuriken thingy at home. He has too much sharp objects. >.<;

Pretty lights. Would you buy it? Would you buy it if it had an image of a 2D bishoujo?

Some people doing flower arranging. I forgot what it was called in Japanese. I thought that I had read about it earlier too…anyways, the result was nice, I will show you later.

Another Christmas Tree! One year ago, me and my friends took some photos here with their Gunpla loot. Not this year I guess…

Addiction to たい焼き (Taiyaki). >.<;

The secluded hobby stop on the bottom floor. HGs are about mid-20-ish & MGs are close to 3 times that price. The only thing good was the wallscrolls & a S.H.Figuarts Faiz that was about $36. Too bad I was tight on money.

Here’s the result of the flower arranging mentioned earlier. Looks amazing right? ^ ^

All of the loot that I bought on this trip. Just 3 things: Newtype Dec 2010 (w/ 3 clear posters), 俺の妹がこんなに可愛いわけがない light novel vol. 2, and a Lala Character File booklet. Very little damage to my wallet. ^ ^;

Sweet......
All the pictures you posted, I've been there xD and I like the magazine store.
I have been there many times before this too. My favorite trip has to be the December 2009 one. ^ ^
wow , very nice. I wish we had something here from where I'm from.
The flower arranging is called 生け花 (ikebana ). The result was very lovely, I wouldn't mind doing that if I had the time^^"
Are the goods they sell their, like the loot you bought, are at a reasonable price?
Thanks. I will try to carve that into my memory. 生け花...
Manga are generally about $9. The magazines, depending on what kind. Range from $10 to a bit over $20. Some go over $50 for the really thick ones with figures. Relatively reasonable. The light novel was $7.
wow, beautiful blades they got here O.O
The only kind of taiyaki you can find in Little Tokyo is the azuki bean kind. However, you can find crepes with all these and more fillings. Choconana Taiyaki sounds om nom nummy.
Never ate crepes before. I heard they were expensive so I never tried. I thought that they cost $20 but my friend said it was about $6...I don't see how that was expensive...Maybe I will try next time.
As for the taiyaki, I don't like how it's almost always cold...
You poor deprived child...good taiyaki nice and warm.
T^T
Someday!
I still like Little Tokyo better. More atmosphere.
My friend who had been to Little Tokyo said that he prefers Japan Town. I never went to there so I can't say anything. Personally I prefer Japan over the both of them. :P
Well, of course...never been, though.
Me neither. ^ ^;;
I miss real ramen so much!
Doesn't count unless you have some in Japan!
True although I did find some real ramen at a local small Japanese store yesterday. They had the usual dried stuff but I found in their refrigerated section some fresh ramen with liquid sauce concentrate. Had it last night and it was amazing!
Yum yum. I need to try out ramen some more.
Fresh ramen pwns dried-and-fried.
Yes it does. When I added the liquid concentrate to the hot water and saw the fat globules on top, I knew I hit the jackpot. Not quite the same without the pork, egg and veggies but the noodles and stock were super good.
Very sad selection of figures at those stores. Guess I'm spoiled by the Akiba stores. LOL
Nothing beats Akiba. :)
very nice figure store. i'd like to go there ... but i already been to Little Tokyo ^^
Personally, I don't think it's that great. The prices could be acceptable but the selection of figures is just poor.
i am pretty sure i wouldnt pay in this store :D
luckily it never existed - otherwise we´d be srewed^^
1 bag + 30 minutes = gone :9
Now I want some. :0
