1/144 RG RX-78-2 Gundam

Posted by berNERD [www]

I finally took the time to assemble the RG Gundam.

After assembling the legs, I just rushed assembling everything cuz it took me over 5 hours assembling it without the gun, bazooka, and shield. To make things worse I didn't eat breakfast or lunch, I just wanted to finish the kit.

After assembling it, I had my brunch and rested for a while.

Then I decided to assemble the bazooka and try and pose it with the bazooka under its arm.

This is where I RAGED. The hands are so freaking flimsy! There are 2 sets of hands. The regular kind just the closed knuckles. Then there's MG-style ones. They're sort of hardened polycaps where the thumb and index finger move on their own and the last 3 fingers (as a whole). It makes me mad cuz they can't get a grip and they easily pop out of their "joint" sockets. There are sockets in the hands cuz the weapons have pegs on them to stick it into but still, can't hold a grip.

The shield has to be supported by flimsy hands. There is a little peg to stick it into the arm but it doesn't freaking stick!
I can't make awesome poses with the beam saber.
I haven't assembled the rifle yet, but I'm guessing I'll be having the same problem with the grip.
Elbows don't rotate.

What I love about the kit is the awesome detail.
I think the kit itself is just too fragile.

you could always use some topcoat or even paper glue to stiffen the joints..

either way any kind works.. just make sure to 'mask' everything aside from the joints if you don't plan on topcoating the other parts

Try using super glue. Apply some on the socket and the ball joints and let it dry completely or even clear nail polish. :3

I actually had no problem with the hands, mine aren't the tightest in the world but they aren't flimsy either. Hmmm.

It would seem to be a problem with the ADVANCED MS JOINT Itself... The 1st RG RX-78 I got, the right leg joint was so stiff I ended up snapping the ABS thigh while trying to bend it to it's max range to un-stiffen it the first time. I cried. The 2nd one had no problems, but I agree that some of the joints are either too flimsy, or not very stable. The only good thing is that I now have 2 Hyper bazookas. Hope my RG Zaku II doesn't have the same issues...

As for your elbows, check to see if the folding tabs you have to insert into the upper arm and forearm are inserted properly; they have the habit of going off their tracks and jamming up the elbows. I think the weapon grips could be adjusted to be a bit better on the thumb joint, especially the beam saber; tilting it 15 degrees would help significantly.

Nice bokeh! What lens did you use? I can't get circular bokeh like that on my nifty fifty :P

Make sure you clean those nubs up!
