Number five has arrived! Mai Shiranui !!
Thru no small miracle I have finally recieved my fifth daughter, Mai Shiranui! It was a long, drawn out process as some friends of mine who post here can attest to.
Mai was actually purchased from ebay as an auction. The seller had 100% feedback but had never sold anything large like a DD before. Myself and DeadlyGambit were a bit skeptical at first about it. But Zakuro helped with some excellent detective work and found out that the person who owned this Mai was actually a member here at one time! So I felt much better about going for her.
I won the auction for what I believe to be an excellent price and then it got down to shipping her. One thing led to another and she finally shipped out but the sellers method of shipping did not make full use of tracking so I had no idea where Mai was at after she was accepted for shipment! :(
But today I arrived home and found a huge box waiting for me inside. Miyuki and Yoko had brought it in off the porch so it wouldn't get rained on and after I got settled down, we began the box opening!!
Hey girls, what's that?
Y - "It was left on the porch by the mailman! Miyuki and I brought it inside so it wouldn't get wet.
Miyu - "Yeah, aren't we great?"
Yes you are Miyuki! You have no idea how long I have been waiting for this! Go and get your sisters so they can help open this.
Miyu - "Okay!"
M - "Alright, what did you get THIS time Papa? This had better not be more anime..."
R - "I have my knife, I'm ready to open this."
Rei! Don't just stab the box! You'll hurt what's inside!
Miyu - "Is it that important Papa?"
Yes it is dear. Now yall go ahead and open it.
KNOCK KNOCK
R - "Hey do yall hear that? Something in there is MOVING..."
M - "Really? We should open it quick! It might be puppies or something!"
Miyu - "Open it, open it!"
M - "Oh.... my... gosh...."
Y - "Oh wow! I know what this is! It looks like the box Rei was in!"
Here Yoko, let me take that out for you.
M - "Papa!!! A new sister? She's so cool!"
Y - "Wow, I didn't expect THIS to be in there!"
R - "Hmm, she seems to be a DDdy type and is named Mai Shiranui. I think she is the girl from the King of Fighters video game series.

R - "Of course I'm right. Now let's get her out of there. I know I hated it in my box...."
Ha ha, Miyuki, what are you doing in there?
"I found something else in the box Papa! It's a pretty dress! Is this Mai's too?"
Yes it is, thank you for finding it for me dear!

Here is Mai all taken out of her box. She has everything with her and the instructions are actually still sealed!
M - "Hold on Mai! We're getting you out now!"
R - "I got the front ties..."
Y - "I have her feet!"
Miyu - "She has boobs like Manami!"
M - "Oh man, she DOES have boobs like mine!" <stare>
Y - "Papa! Go get Mai some clothes quick! We don't want her to catch cold!"
R - "Hello there. My name is Rei. Stay clear of the girl to your left, she has wandering hands..."
M - "Don't tell her THAT Rei!"
Mai - "Ok, thank you everyone for helping out of that box! That was a long trip!"

Mai - "My name is Mai Shiranui and it seems I will be your new sister."
"Hello sir, thanks for the clothes. I am guessing you'll be my new master?"
No no Mai. We don't do things like that here. If anything, think of me as your Papa. I am glad to have you here finally!
"Well then Papa, thank you for having me. Does anyone have any questions for me?"
Mai - "You there with the wandering hands... what's up?"
M - "Umm, hi. My name is Manami and I'll be your big sister from now on. I just wanted to ask if you were a DDdy body type. You look the same size as me and Yoko but I wasn't sure..."
Mai - "Oh yes, I am indeed a Dddy. Do you need to check for yourself?"
M - "Can I? Really?"
Mai - "Sure, we're family now right? And we're both girls so what's the problem?"
M - "No problem!"

M - "You *are* the same as Yoko and me! So we can all share clothes now!
Mai - "Well that's good to hear, I do enjoy different clothes. Would you mind if I changed into my default clothing right now? I haven't worn it in quite some time so I would like to make sure I still fit into it."
M - "Sure, I don't mind. How about you Papa?"
No, that's actually a great idea Mai, I'd love to take some pics of you if that's alright.
Mai - "Of course it's alright. I'll be just a minute..."
So here is Mai in her wonderful default outfit. I so love how she looks with this set on.
These are NOT her default eyes. Her previous owner swapped them for these reddish ones but he did include her original eyes in her box. I was happy about that. I like her original eyes but these are also really nice. I may leave these in for a while and see how it goes.
Man this outfit is SEXY. No pantsu! But the outfit actually does cover her nether regions so she isn't commando.
The back of the outfit has this large bow on it and all sorts of detail. You can also see the part that covers her butt.
Her shoes are so cool! They are basically black tabi socks with snap on covers. The details on these are just crazy.
Her outfit actually has wires inside some parts so you can pose it a little. The white piping you see here has some of that wire inside.
Love those gloves...
The ornate patterns in her outfit are fascinating. So many cool shapes and designs, I really like this alot.
I have always wanted to have a Mai. Since way back when I first started surfing Danny's site, Mai has been kind of a dream for me. I'm amazed I now actually have one in my house.
Time to rest! Those big balls on her outfit are plastic and pretty darn heavy!

Thank you! I hope she fits in well but I am sure she will. And it seems that Mai doesn't really care about Manami's "touchy-feely" ways. Mai seems a bit more mature than most of my girls so we'll see how that pans out.

Man, your two rapid fire adoptions are *really* making me wish I had a job right now so I could adopt a minion--I mean, sister-- for Agatha. Just looks like so much fun having more than one! But alas, stupid time-consuming, expensive school keeps that from happening. ^^;

I really didn't plan on either of my adoptions. Miyuki was a special case and I am glad she's with me now. Mai just popped up with such a great price, I couldn't let her go. But I am *done* for a few months now. I can't be doing this kind of buying anymore.... my CC's are hating me right now. XD
I think Mai is yet another case where the Volks promos did her no justice. They really need to back off on their lighting, in my opinion. ¬.¬ A lot of Mai's fans from the game also felt that her face was too round to be a good representation, but for some reason it looks like few customizers got their hands on her, either.
Heh, from my reading on DoA, it sounds like very few adoptions are truly planned! Agatha actually wansn't really planned either, actually. I'd originally intended to get Fate or Nanoha (head and body only, the fullsets are just too expensive aftermarket), and had the idea for Agatha shelved as a post-college doll plan. But when she showed up on the Marketplace, I knew I had to bring her home!
I would still love to get Fate or Nanoha someday, as I absolutely adore that head mold, but given that I'm now looking at some possibly necessary computer and software upgrades, that's going to delay "Minion shopping" even further. -_-; Le sigh. But we can be on a no-dolls moratorium together! Moral support you know. ;)
I can see what you mean about lighting when I look at Mai's instruction sheets. Everything is kind of washed out looking. I wasn't in this hobby when she was originally released so I have no clue what type advertising they did for her. I can bet it was nothing like Yoko or Saber tho.

Actually, I think Saber's promo shots were rather washed out too, doubly so for Saber Alter. It's really only ones released in the past year that have any hope of being better, and even then only some dolls got just one or two nicer promo shots, while the rest were the same overlit, boring white background as always. -_-; Yoko got way better promotion though, mostly due to being a web order doll. Granted, the ones listed on the main Volks site still were lame, but on the blog they had TONS of photos of her and Nia, both completed and in progress. They did something similar with Rina and Yuki, but it wasn't *quite* as epic since their outfits and props were relatively straightforward.
Heh, yup! She was kind of an impulse adoption, but seeing as she came on the right body with a damn close wig as well as some clothes I had to do it. Heh, apparently the founder of Volks likes to say that every doll has its destiny, so maybe you're onto something. ^_^ Sorry about the no pictures of it thing; she's been stuck at my parents' for the past two weeks due to a burst pipe, a frozen driveway, and having to catch a ride to my grandparents with three dogs. ^^; My mom's bringing her down this weekend, so either early next week or sometime next weekend it should at the very least be making a pre-alteration appearance in the next goofy photostory.

Yeah, it does suck. I do miss her, silly as that'll sound to non-doll people. =P But there *have* to be pictures of the dress; it's supposed to play a crucial part in placating her when she comes to kick my ass for leaving her behind! XD
I would expect non-Dollfie peeps to not understand but I know what you mean. While I was gone for 2 weeks in Japan, I missed Manami. Even tho I had her 2 sisters already, they were boxed up to ship home as soon as I got them.
That's cool that the dress is a major player for a story! Rei and Yoko especially want to know what's going on since they both modeled it. We all can't wait to see how she likes it!

Agreed. It's quite odd that there are not that many around Figurefm. I have seen a few and every time I do, they are gorgeous. I can't even recall the last time I saw one in her default outfit tho. I was amazed at how nice and detailed it was in person. That's the main reason I got some good pictures of her in that so people could see it if they hadn't before.

I do what I can to appease them. Most of the time it's all good. Yoko is the best at not being picky or demanding tho. Manami can be sometimes when she gets on her high horse. Miyuki is VERY demanding, almost moreso than Rei. Rei is the quiet, forceful type tho, Miyuki is super vocal about things she wants or problems she has, she really reminds me of Otakusan's Asuka. Rei just gives you the blank stare until you cave in. ^_^ I'm not sure about Mai just yet tho. She seems reserved and quiet so far. But it's only been a few days so she probably isn't super comfortable just yet.
Family increase by 1... if you don't watch out, your house will be overrun by your girls ^^

These balls are made of wood. I accidentally let one them be in contact with raw sculpey. It melted the paint away and showed wood underneath
Really? They sure feel like hard plastic to me but I will take your word for it! Sorry your's had that happen to them. Were you able to fix the paint issue?

I had the same trouble with the tracking as well. I was wondering where all the dollfies she was selling ended up at. I'm glad to see Mai has such a great home now. :-)

Ah so *you* were the person who got Yuki pulled off ebay! ^_^ Congrats on getting her in! I hope everything was good with her? Mai arrived in good order but yes, the whole shipping thing was just infuriating. Yuki was shipped the same way? That just sucks. I don't think that seller had any clue on how to pack and ship high end collectibles like Dollfies. And the seller wasn't the actual owner... the owner had his friend "Tish" do the selling for him.
I'm just glad it all worked out in the end for me and for you too! I don't know anyone else who bought a Dollfie from them but I do know a few people who bought clothing. Shipping for them was also a bit high and I don't know if they had tracking on those packages. I don't doubt those people will get their outfits tho, they will just be overcharged on shipping and it won't arrive soon. Oh wow, I feel kinda special to be known as the person who got Yuki pulled off ebay. I'm sure there are some people out there who hate me for it. I seen the listing for Mashiro on eBay and by chance I clicked on it and read the description and seen that Yuki was for sell, so I acted quick to get her. There was just no way I was going let the chance to own Yuki slip by me. I ended up buying Yuki and 4 outfits. Two for Yuki and two for my Alna coming in March.
Everything arrived just as described and was shipped pretty much in the same type of box you got. It was like a treasure hunt digging all my stuff out. It's a shame though that the previous owner let Yuki's wig stain her head, but at least the stain isn't somewhere noticable. Also they made sure to let me know about it and sent pics of the stain. That was greatly appreciated that the sellers were at least honest.
I'm glad everything worked out for us both. I hope the people you know get the clothing they purchased. I can't believe they would want to charge a high price on shipping just for clothes.

Ha ha! There may be someone who wasn't happy about the Yuki being pulled but hey, things happen... The people I was talking with about all these auctions didn't have any ill will towards whoever did that, so don't worry about it.

Pictures were of great concern because at first, NONE of the Dollfies on sale had any actual pics of them, just generic stock photos that Volks uses. That kind of bugged me at first. but after some digging around, we found pics of all the girls they had up for sale. And then they added real pics like 2 days before Mai's auction ended. That's when I decided to go after her.
Jacking up shipping prices is an old trick that sellers do to make a little more money that ebay wont collect on. I hate it but it happens all the time.
So Yuki will be your first girl? Congrats! I can't wait to see your box opening pics! I really enjoy seeing when people do that. That's why I make sure to do photos whenever I get a new DD. Sharing is one of the best aspects of this hobby. I do hope you'll continue to share when Alna comes in!

I saw very few pics of Mai in her default set back then tho. She was probably the first DD I ever really wanted along with Ryomou Shimei, who is still the number one girl I'd kill to adopt. =3

Sorry I'm so late with this but.... CONGRATS!!!! Mai has such a beautiful face sculpt. I bid on her once about 8 or 9 months ago and lost at the last moment... I was very sad. :(

Thank you! Mai was one of the first DD's I ever saw and I had wanted one for a long time. I really didn't think I'd ever find her for a good price either as most of them sold for well over $900 on ebay. I just got lucky this time around.
I think Rei *may* have had an issue about not being able to be sexy before but since she got her lingerie set, she's just fine. She actually knows that it's difficult to carry around the extra curves of a DDdy and she's glad she doesn't have to worry about that.

Thank you! I agree with you that she is really cute. She was one of the first DD's I ever saw and I always wanted to get one but they were always expensive when I saw them for sale. I was lucky to get Mai this time around and I am very happy I did. And thank you for saying such nice things about my girls!
I *never* thought I would be able to afford a DD. But if you take your time and do some searching, you WILL find one for the right price. It took me a long time but when I found Manami, it was just the right time and the right price. Same with Yoko and Rei, it was just meant to be for me to find them while I was in Japan. Things have a strange way of working out in the DD world so just be patient and a daughter will present herself to you and you'll be able to adopt!

What kind of dress is what? Mai's default set? I have no clue what the name of that style is. I've never seen one anywhere except on Mai in the King of Fighters video game series.

Nothing wrong with a DFC! I like those too. But my preference is a larger bust for my Dollfies. I like curves best. ^_^
