Power Rank - January 2011 Anime

Over at my blog, we do an anime-themed Power Rank, which basically takes currently airing shows and chooses a top 10 for a given month (in this case January). The panel that decides the ranking consists of authors of the blog who watch all of the episodes that air in a given month; the authors then make their own individual ranking from best to worst, and each author's rankings are averaged and compiled for the Power Rank top 10.
This month was a clean sweep for wideface magical girl Madoka. The tags at the bottom of this post detail which other shows were in the running. Head on over to the wideface blog to see how we stacked the rest of January's episodes against each other.
Nice! This is actually pretty helpful, as I've been trying to decide on which recent anime to watch. I've been gawking at my Japanese Newtype mag, and tons of different clips, but to no avail. XD

Glad this has been some help. The Winter 2011 season of anime has been pretty good at having a handful of new shows that are to some extent enjoyable, so there's lots to choose from. Happy hunting.
This season of that list I'm watching Gosick, Star Driver, Korea Zombie Desk Car, and KnT2.
I tried and DROPPED Madoka. Merry, and Bakuman.
I can understand Merry and Bakuman, but I'm curious as to why you dropped Madoka. Not to disagree with you, but just to hear what other opinions there are. With the Power Rank we try to have multiple authors participate to get a wide spectrum of views, and while this month's panel has been a good step towards that, we're still just three guys that post to a collective blog named after Hidamari Sketch XD. So yeah, if you don't mind I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
I watched the first episode. And was very confused by a lot thats been going on. Possibly it's because the only other Mahou Shojo's Ive seen are Cardcaptor Sakura and Ultra Maniac so I'm not incredibly versed in the ways of Mahou Shojo. But also, I didn't find the school and home like of Madoka interesting. Seemed really boring and school life is my favorite aspect of animes where characters have double lifes.
Also the animation quality. So much defomation left and right it made it really difficult to keep me interested.
Honestly I wanted to close the 1st episode during the dream sequence I was so disinterested.
Lately I'm hearing that its been up to episode 5, and Madoka hasnt even transformed...

Only really watching 2 of that list, Madoka and GOSICK. I'm on the cusp of dropping Kore wa Zombie desu ka? and I haven't seen any Star Driver in ages... so by technicality that's dropped too XD. Loving Madoka though, and Gosick too <3 Love their op/ed theme's too. Always good when a show has an op you don't wanna skip lol.
YES! Madoka ED is so good! For the most part I watch the OPs unless it's the second episode from the same series in the same day or if it's the Bakuman OP which I avoid like the plague.
To tell the truth I don't really like Madoka. I've watched 5 episodes now, and she still hasn't decided if she wants to become a magic girl. The plot is good, but it's too slow for a series that's only going to be 12 episodes long. The music's great, but you can't expect anything else when it's made by Yuki Kajiura x3
Haven't dropped the series yet. Still waiting for something exiting to happen ^^
I dropped Bakuman though. I'm already reading the manga, and I wasn't really a fan of it to begin with ^^;;
The shows I really enjoy this season are Dragon Crisis, GOSICK, Kore wa Zombie desu ka? and Fractale ^^
That's certainly a fair point: almost half way into the series and the title character isn't what the title says she is yet :P. Maybe if/when she finally does accept the contract, it'll be that much more exciting.
//MADOKA SPOILERS//I tend to agree with bjw's comment on how the show focuses on the anxiety of choosing the contract. It's very much like a 'be careful what you wish for' story, and with Sayaka having accepted the contract, it's still possible to see what happens when one becomes a magical girl even if Madoka still hasn't decided.//MADOKA SPOILERS//
Yeah, I don't read the Bakuman manga, but I can't imagine the anime offering anything more than the manga does. Niijima is fun to hear voiced, but the animation isn't special, and the music certainly isn't either.
At least 3 of the 4 you mentioned there made the Top 10. Dragon Crisis tied for 12th this month.
