20090715 Giveaway - 1070 USD

Posted by Danny Choo [www]

Sorry to have kept you waiting!
Its finally here and there is a reason why the prize is worth a bit - to celebrate the relaunch of figure.fm!
figure.fm was originally launched back in 2006 and the first post made there was on March 18th 2006.
I then decided in 2008 to close down the site and made the final post on April 28 2008. I closed the site down due to lack of time to maintain dannychoo.com, figure.fm and what have you.

The Mirai Gaia platform enables us to run a load of sites with the minimum of time and is a contributing factor in enabling us to relaunch the site.

20090715 Giveaway - 1070 USD

Japan to Door would like to help celebrate the relaunch of Figure.fm giving you 1070 USD worth of prizes. But before I go on to what they are, would like to take a look at Japan to Door and what they do.

Japan to Door do a few things all outlined on this page.

Bidding service

Japan To Door look after all the bidding shenanigans on Japanese auction sites and do all the follow up and wot not so that you don't have to. You can track progress of the bid when you log into Japan to Door too.

Personal Shopping Service

Japan to Door buy stuff for you from any Japanese website and after they get the item, they will send to you.

Selling Service

Yep - they sell stuff for you on Japanese auction sites too.

Other Package Forwarding service

If you are kushty with the Japanese lingo then you can order items yourself and have the package sent to your own Japanese address that Japan to Door provide for you.

I wouldn't plug anything to you without testing it out and have already tried out the Japan To Door service as I previously mentioned in my Nanoha post.

20090715 Giveaway - 1070 USD

So the prizes copy/pasted from the mail from Japan to Door below:-

One person will receive 100 USD worth of JTD funds in their Japan to Door account plus one free year of Premier Membership (a 180 USD value)
Total value 280 USD

Two lucky persons will receive 50 USD worth of JTD funds in their Japan to Door account plus one free year of Japan to Door Premier Membership Free (a 180 USD value)
Total value 230 USD per winner

Three persons will receive 20 USD worth of JTD funds in their Japan to Door account plus one 6 months of Japan to Door Premier Membership Free (a 90 USD value)
Total value 110 USD per winner

Total is 1070 USD worth of moolah.

JTD funds is real money to use on whatever you want. The premier membership enables you to use the Japan to Door service with a lower service fee. The membership details are listed here.

Update - just realized that because I left this giveaway so long that the membership fees have gone down just a wee bit. Still a nice giveaway though.

OK, you are probably wondering what you need to do to get hold of your money - pretty simple. All you have to do is post a creative figure shoot. Have seen some creative ones at Happy Soda and Kodomut.

You can use photoshop too. Remember - this is about being creative and not about photo skill. Now that you have the ability to upload multiple images, you can make a story too with captions at the bottom of each photo.

Rules:-

  • Rating function not in place so I will have to choose (sorry). Dont get me wrong - I don't like doing it and would prefer that you did but the rating function is lower on the priority list than say "send me mail when somebody comments on my post/replies to my comment"
  • Please do not enter if you get offended by not being chosen. Its about having fun and sharing and I will always be giving out stuff. Last time some people complained and even ranted on their blogs that they didn't get chosen. As you can imagine, they looked very smart and very clever. Hmmm.
  • You got until the 24th of July - just over a week.
  • Please tag your post "giveaway" and "20090715giveaway" like "giveaway,20090715giveaway"
  • This giveaway will overlap with another giveaway to be announce later this week - you may need to engage your dual core brain to cope with the giveaways.
  • *Anybody* can now signup and post on figure.fm. Until your account has been approved however, your posts will only be visible on your profile page. PreCrime is watching the site 24/7 and will approve good people and nuke bad people.
  • Only entries on figure.fm will be considered - not on dannychoo.com.
  • Your entry can consist of Dollfie's, figures, Gundam's or mecha.
  • One entry per person.
  • Nendoroid Puchi Kyoka was your host for today.
  • Arms installation is complete - good luck!

Hmm yes, I'm wondering what "figures" and "mecha" can be defined as too. Are they limited to Japanese produced goods from anime, manga, and games? Or can they be random action figures (Bionicle, Super Sentai/Power Rangers, Star Wars) that some may still have from the time they were little.

An advantage of having it limited is much less chaos in the contest, but a disadvantage might be losing out on diversity.

If there are more details about what types of these we can and cannot use, it may help some members think up of good ideas, redirect people going in the wrong path, or encourage people to who didn't know they could participate to take part in this event too.

In this case, I think action figures like figmas and revoltechs are probably more useful than fixed pose ones.

What I was planning is dependent on when my figures arrive.
Else, I'll have to make something with what I've already got.
Are Videos allowed? Had an idea I was planning for quite a while and this might give the final push for me to actually make it.

      Any figures go, right?

          Another Q',
Can I change my entry any time before the deadline by removing/adding the tags?
Back-up is always handy if one didn't go "Just as Planned".
(Gonna start on the vid tomorrow but just in case, I want to upload photo's)
So I could change the backup always to a normal post.

Thanks Mr. Choo for the decent deadline, I think nine days is a good time frame (oh if only i weren't swamped with work for half of them though... <.<)

Ok, it just occurred to me, but how do we format our entry post? Just in case we post normal things along with our contest entry around the same time? Also, I noticed the word "or" in what we're allowed to photoshoot; is this on purpose? It implies that only one of each may participate in a photoshoot for the contest entry, and being one shoot per entry, one entry per member, this would result in photos of only one figure per member's entry. Unless you're allowing of the single type to participate in the photoshoot (e.g. Dollfies in swimwear playing volley ball).

I think a but of clarification is needed.

Man, looks like this giveaway will actually require some effort! The last time I did something on thus scale was on dannys first ever giveaway back on the old figure.fm!!!
Well, I have a current project going on so I might be able to work something out but I agree with some of the others when they say that the rules need a bit of clarification.
I'm working on the assumption of 1 post (so up to 14 pics) per person and the pics within must all have a central theme or tell a story. So no bunch o' random pics. Does that sound about right?

Awesome! At least this giveaway doesn't require me to use my brain or search for clues^^ I'm guessing the 1st prize winner just gets 100USD and the membership and not the whole 1070. I'll probably just do this for fun since I have some free time now, really want to see all the entries though ^^

You make a post in Figure.FM and put it there, it should say upload in the home page of Figure.FM. You then put "giveaway" and "20090715giveaway" in the tags. I think you have to wait like or a day or something before you start posting, probably not, hope this helped ^^

I wonder if we can post animated GIFs to convey a story. It would take a while to load though, and the files would be huge.

Maybe I could try participating with my I-hope-tomorrow-to-arrive figure of Moka by GSC. But don't know how creative it can turn out with her. Well, I'll see and maybe do one more photoshoot of a figure I already have for the giveway contest.
