Nendoroid Fake Comparison
Please feel free to comment if I've missed anything important.
This is also being used as a feedback response to the person who sold me the fake in the first place :)
I've always wondered how noticeable the differences between fakes and legitimately made figures are, so when I came across a fake Azusa Nakano nendoroid figure I thought I would take a look for myself.

So here is the box of the nendoroid made by Good Smile.

And here is the box of the knock off.

As you can see straight away you can notice some very slight differences between the two boxes. The colour of the fake box seems a little darker, also the font and the images on the box have a low quality scanned look. Also the main thing is the lack of sticker stating the Licence holder of the series (in K-ON's case TBS).

Here are the photos of the original figure itself and all its accessories.

And here is the fake and all its accessories.

Well the first thing I noticed was that joints were very loose. As soon as I took it out of the box the head and the right leg came off, her hair wouldn't stay up and the head kept leaning back.

(Fake on left legit on right)
Now for the faces. Here is her “nyan” face. As you can see the fake face looks a lot shinier where as the original looks more matte. Another thing is the joint colour. The originals joint is the same colour as the face where as the fakes is slightly orange.

Her shocked face is a little better but the most noticeable imperfection for me was the white around the eyes of the fake. It seems like the eyes were poorly cut out then stuck on.

And her face “default” face. Just like the other two faces it's shiny, the colours are just a little bit off and her eyes are scratched.

Moving onto the accessories. I couldn't see many differences between the fake cat and the real one. Here you can see the fake cat has a tint of blue on the right side of it's face and there are some slight differences when it comes to paint job but that's about it.

Now the biggest difference here is that the fake guitar came broken. But apart from that the colouring is just a little bit odd.

The biggest problem with the fake stand was that it couldn't actually hold the nendoroid up. It would just keep slipping out from under itself. To make the nendoroid stand in place I had to remove it's head and one leg (the arms were off at the time anyway).

Like fake stands in the past it also misses out the “Made in China” print on the bottom (which is odd don't you think.).

The fake stand also came in 5 different pieces. Two parts for the joint, two parts for the base and one part to hold the figure. The joint would never stay together it would just keep falling apart when the nendoroid was attached. The base was also very flimsy and kept becoming detached.

Here there is no real difference in the cat ears apart from the colouring on the inside of the ears.

The amp is messy, the buttons don't line up and not it's not as smooth as the original.
I made this comparison because fakes are becoming increasingly more numerous around the country and they are also getting a lot better.
So the moral of the story is look at the box, look at the paint work and don't order figures off eBay (unless YOU know they are %100).

You know... in looking at the photos, I couldn't tell you which one was the fake one.
What's that say.
Of course, I remember a time when figures were actually made in Japan, not China.
It is getting increasingly more difficult to distinguish fakes from the real thing these days.
And as time goes on it will only get worse I'm sure XD
That says from the visual standpoint, the bootleg isn't half bad. However, the fact that the bootleg figure hardly stays together is something anyone should be worried about, despite whether they can spot the differences in the paint/sculpt or not.
Yep, my Bootleg Al Azif (I call her Al Derpzif lately) falls apart quite easily.
Mainly the legs though, as the joints lack any kind of friction.
Her helmet also easily splits into two, so I pretty much have her sitting in my room all day while holding random objects.
Oh hey, I remember reading that post. At least to me, it seems the coloring on her is quite noticeably off.
uh thats bad >< yes bootlegs look more and more like there real thing nowadays, thought i can tell right away in the first photo of it, that its fake xD
the first thing that always seen, and makes the biggest difference is the shiny face xD
I also have a fake nendo. you know, though, mine doesn't have a shiny face it looks just as real as a real nendo. it's so hard to tell.
scary :S
i have the fake 1 yay
Bootleggers have come a long way since their Sader days. Then again, I always felt that nendos are easier to bootleg.
AH WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!
I weeped in despair. But hey, I got the legit one :)
I bought an Alter Azuza figure a little while ago from eBay. Everything seemed legit, especially the seller's feedback. It was pretty cheap and I was pretty sceptical but I thought I would just take a chance with it. When it arrived it was of a lot worse quality as this figure and even although I had no comparison I could tell it was a fake. It was confirmed to me by posting on a forum and I ordered another one from Plamoya. The difference is outstanding. I now have a few seller's on eBay that I trust and I buy in from actual shops even although I get charged a stupid amount on customs it's better to have the real thing :)
If I ever buy figures off eBay they tend to be from other collecters selling odd ones or one they don't want.
Most of the time I just buy from people on here :)
I didn't know people on here sold stuff, that was my first post :)
Just started collecting as well so hopefully I'll get some pics up soon.
Oh well, Welcome then! :D
Yeah peopel sell the odd figure here and there.
You even get some British sellers so you don't have to worry about customs :)
Paypal dispute that rubbish figure xD
I gave the guy bad feedback on eBay and he wants to give me half a refund to take it down XD
yeh bro show him who's boss since paypal is really good as long as you're the buyer but if you're a seller it is just bad as because paypal ussually sides with the buyer
Already broken O.O
wow they've started adding protection plastic sheet and wrapped it, they didn't do that before, that was the easiest way to see.
Box to Box comparison is hard when looking photo, but the left didn have a holo-sticker.
Plastic Glossy shine face, different colour tone of neck joint.
but when you get it (that's when its too late), handling them you know it's a fake from its poor quality hey hehe, I have a fake-Zange chan bought so i can modify it.
Seeing bootlegs always make me cringe.
Apparently, these bootleg manufacturers are getting better at industrial espionage.
poor touch
If seller is charging less than £15 for a new nendo -almost 100% likely to be a bootleg.
Getting harder to identify bootleg from a pic, also bootleggers may have show a pic of legit nendo instead of their bootleg. Some genuine nendo's don't necessarily carry a holo-sticker.
Did the seller actually state it was a genuine Good Smile product?
They didn't mention Good Smile but nor did they mention of it was legit or fake. They did say it's a "Nendoroid K-ON! Azusa Nakano 3.8" PVC Figure #104".
Those sell for less than £5 (excluding postage) on eBay (The picture they show is of the bootleg). I don't see how anyone can seriously expect to get the genuine product for that price-it is totally unrealistic.
Where a supplier simply states it is 100% authentic /genuine does not mean anything. All they are saying is that it is a 100% genuine cheap and nasty product.
needs face wash cream, too much oil!
poor quality on hair
more pronounce face -ridge like
feature
plastic texture and sheen is off
really poor detail on paint work
terrible finish!
just so much wrong!
Being ugly as sin is the biggest give away right? :3
The cat is missing whiskers
those who might know how to distinguish fake and genuine are probably the shops the 2nd hand figuring shops in japan (e.g mandarake)
Yes It's really hard when your buying a nendo/figma...because a lot of sellers this days are a total ass for scamming(selling fake ones in a price same as the original one) I remember my first time buying a nendo... Bought it for about 2300 pesos while the other seller sells it at 2000 pesos.. I was like WTF which ones real so I bought more expensive ones to make sure... then just as I pass the store that sells it more cheaper... The Store is like more well know for selling figmas/nendo's in our country.... FAIL :/
Woah, they are a lot better than they used to be! I haven't bought any figures in a while and I'm lucky enough to have never got a fake, but I remember reading about the shiny 'skin' being a giveaway.
Now you got me wondering about my nendos XD *checks em all now*
looks like she is swearing!! lol
Glossy
...
I bought a fake nendoroid :( It was $30, too. I couldn't tell the bad quality through the plastic. I don't really mind, because I am happy enough that I found one, even a fake, in Australia. They are very hard to find in shops here!
