OoaK Figure: Stratosphere

Posted by Poofiemus [www]

A project of mine in Super Sculpy. I actually did her a little over a year ago, and has been displayed in my school's display case for about that long, but the Tauren Marine posts got me off my butt to actually put her up.

She's an original character of mine, by the way, from my attempt at writing a sci-fi romantic comedy take on Snow White. I know the paint isn't the cleanest, but when your figure is permanently in one piece and you're painting on a time crunch, things get a little tricky. ^^; Been working on and off on another that's designed to come apart for painting, but it'll be a while before I can finish it and see if it really works.

Sorry guys, this is as much of a panchira shot as you're going to get. Remember what I said about painting on her being tricky? Yeah, that was the worst spot. ^^;

Time for some work in progress shots, though since a lot of them were shot late at night the photo quality isn't the best. First bake, or as I like to call it, the modern art stage.

The second bake, or the awkward alien stage.

Well, there ya go, one of my sculpture projects. Hopefully in the next two or three weeks I can get my current sculpture, a six-legged freak pony thing, done and photographed. I've got a few others too, that I've never put up here, but since those are with my parents and my parents are moving soon, I sadly can't get to them for photos for a while. But I will post them eventually if there's interest in my older stuff.

Thanks! Any critiques on her? Always trying to improve, you know. :)

Oh, she totally digs them! She's been wearing them all week. I'm sorry I haven't taken pictures of her wearing them; it's been crazy busy school-wise for me lately. I'll see if I can sneak a quick one in daylight tomorrow morning.

Well, I'd say the proportions head-to-body look good, colors are a good contrasting. She's about, what? 6 1/2 - 7 inches tall? ( dunno what size yer iMac is, so it's a bit rough to estimate size ) It's a good build, I can't sculpt to save my life! I'd like to try painting one of you next sculpts, if you wouldn't mind.

        I loved Pancake,so here's a chuckle for you: http://twitpic.com/45veqd

Ah, thanks. She's actually bigger than that, somewhere between 1/7 and 1/6 scale--I had to turn her sideways to bake her. XD Oooh, painting. . .that does sound like a cool colab. The biggest problem would be packing it up to ship to you, especially if it's human and therefore has hair and clothes--those two things are almost invariably fragile. We'll have to see how the multi-piece figure goes first, I think; that would make both shipping and painting loads easier.

Heheh! Oh yes, night furies DO love to have their bellies rubbed. Pancake demands it! http://www.flickr.com/photos/52644365@N03/5341311433/

I agree, a multi-piece project would be easier than trying to ship a standing figure... Let me know what you have in mind, I'd like to give it a try....

And, yes, I think Pancake needs MORE belly rubbinz!!!

Yeah, that way I can individually pad any thin parts, as well as make better use of the space in the box. Like I said, I have to see how my other project goes (the arm pegs on her are a little too short, so she's not exactly other-user-friendly, so to speak), before deciding what the one AFTER that will be. Probably something in an action pose, though. Cause action poses are awesome.

Heheh! He can't complain too much; he's been sleeping in my arms at night. =P I guess I do owe him a bit after sticking a rubber band around his head for a day--he needed one of his eyes reglued since it was coming loose, poor thing.

I'd buy a garage kit of that!!! Awesome figure sculpt. She's a maquette of a project you want to do? Awesome. Kick butt, Poofie!

the figure looks like an french animation!
From the painting you can see that better sanding would be nice! But overall is quite good! (i know that it is not simple ^c^)

Actually, the clay itself was quite smooth; it's all paint issues. ^^;; I've been sculpting for quite a while, but have long used the already-colored sculpy, so I didn't have a chance to get good at painting until recently, and as a result my paint work has a LONG way to go. -_-; But thank you for the compliments!

Yeah, since I did this for class, I didn't want to go *too* anime, since here in the US animation industry there's still some degree of a stigma against it from the old times--including the ones doing the hiring. So I went with something that I would feel OK putting in my portfolio. But I have done some that *are* more anime, including a rather moe redhaired girl and a steampunk fairy girl. I'll post them too when I get photos, but that'll take a bit; my parents have them, but my parents are also moving soon, so all the decorative stuff like my sculptures are already packed. Hopefully they'll be out by my summer break in June.
