I'm yet to personally try AutoTune first hand... though it does SOUND fun (lol, subltle pun). Is this a free program or is it for sale?? O__o
it's a plugin for audio processing from the sound processing firm Antares. and it's not free - it is derived in part from technology used to determine oil deposits in soil from soil ultrasound scans. In fact, the same person who invened that technique made AutoTune on a dare because he was bored of having way too much money to spend from the royalties on that oil discovery method:

In fact, Autotune as panned by many people is actually a very extreme abuse of the vocoder's properties. In actual fact, there are many other songs that are regularly auto-tuned to a more subtle degree, and in fact, this is often used where a performer's live performances are not totally up to scratch with their albums' quality (there is a terrifying audio clip of Britney Spears singing at a concert, recorded off the lines somewhere prior to Autotune. If you can't find it, good on you!)

Haven't really been a fan of these autotune voice thing as I don't really like the "robot voice" that seems to be found everywhere now in popular music. (think its just cause im soo damn picky with music)

Auto-tuning the crap out of music does seem to be pretty popular now. It's probably one of the few things that makes most of Ke$ha's(or as one of my friends calls her, "Kuh-dollar sign-huh) songs tolerable.
