Malaysia first lady's ridiculous comment on Japan's earthquake
Sat 2011/03/19 17:56 JST

So well yeah the Malaysia first lady apparently says the earthquake teaches Japan a lesson for not building their infrastructure well enough that is why many people died in the earthquake.. Well I've lived in Malaysia and for her to say that she must be stupid or retarded but the roads in Malaysia are already as screwed as Japan without an earthquake and that is all I can say, as a person who has been to many countries you have to know that every countries has it flaws and Malaysia has a great amount of flaws compared to many I've been to. When it comes to environmentally unfriendly, I do not get how can Japan be environmentally unfriendly compared to Malaysia a country that knows not of recycling.

sigh, people like them =[
i don't understand how they got to where they are now...
They're just a simple minded fellow with something in mind: "EVERY DISASTER OCCURS BECAUSE OF HUMAN, EVEN IF IT'S EARTHQUAKE, TSUNAMI, OR EVEN METEOR STORM". Celebrity wannabes are always narrow minded like this.
Ya, this is very embarrassing. You could see the youtube comment that all Malaysian disagree bout this.
As a Malaysian, I have 1 thing to say:
Ini namanya bodoh sombong bertaraf kaum jahiliah.
To Malay comrade who understand this, PLEASE, do forgive me for such foul words. It just had to be said.
Wow what is this.. Going into insults in foreign languages already? I am just starting a debate and anyone can feel free to believe in what they want and as a Malaysian you should know better about your own countries flaws than anyone else are you saying your country is flawless because there is no such thing. If you talk to many Malaysians they would agree with what I have to say about the first lady's comment
Actually, I was referring to Malaysia 1st Lady. I am VERY aware of the many flaws that my country is facing. Maybe not all the existing flaws, but just many to know how imperfect my country is.
Alright fair enough because by "ini" I thought you were refering to me from the little Mlay words I still know of. Sorry for the misunderstanding
terrorhunt,, i agree with u,, she acts like she's the prime minister of malaysia.. wth???!! you can see her in TV like everyday in malaysia..
Speaking the truth,
She is the worst Malaysia 1st Lady that i had ever met and bring shame to our country.
agree with both of you!!!
now people are going to hate on malaysians on youtube because of this video.
First the FB Pearl Harbour comments, then CNN reporters slipping up, and even Singaporean officers making statements without thinking and creating a storm on FB...
... and now this. Words spoken cannot be taken back so easily, people...
Can you tell me more about the Pearl Harbour comments, CNN reporters and what the singaporean officers said?
Many uncouth Americans on Twitter have been referring to the EQ/Tsunami as "karma" or "retribution from God" for the Pearl Harbor suicide attacks near the end of WWII. It began trending in minutes.
The CNN debacle is also related to Twitter, as many tweeted about the fact that the Australian reporter who happened to be on when news of the EQ broke was giggling and seemingly making light of the situation by cracking jokes about tweets "flooding" her twitter (which was poor wording on her part.) This prompted a shitstorm on twitter for many calling to have her fired or worse. I do not know if "CNN+laughing" started trending, but it did prompt the higher ups to look into it, and they believe the reporter did nothing wrong.
I thought the Karma thing was about whales?
Since others have explained the Pearl Harbor and CNN comments quite well, I'll just post a link to the Singaporean officer's fiasco, but the slang's almost stifling.

It isn't so much of a blatent offensive comment as the retardedly thickheaded way some people talk to others on the internet. If he didn't mean anything, why did he not explain it clearly? >_<|||
Just putting it here, but some places say the Pearl Habour comments started with some guy telling others to Google Pearl Harbor's death toll if they feel sorry for the dead in Japan now. Then it got blown out of proportion in FB with the usual internet thoughtlessness and "LOLLOL IM SO COOL I POST THIS".
As for the First Lady's comments, once again it's not a matter of what she said but how it could have been intepreted. According to some of the news, the plant took the quake with minor damage and it was more likely the tsunami damaging vital cooldown equipment that sealed the nuclear plant's fate; it's highly unbelievable that Japan would not quake-proof their reactors, while her statements could be implying that Japan did not take precautions.
Considering that in the past Japan has had its fair share of earthquakes with even more disastrous results, her statement all round was just odd and sounded like something said for the camera instead of having any genuine thought put into it, even if one factors in the possibility of translation errors or words taken out of context. God forbid she be allowed to comment on the 2004 Indian Ocean quake...
Even though i don't think building a reactor next to the see is a good idea Japan structures are well think ! they would have more dead people if they didn't think about anti quake building so i think she should just shut her mouth instead of spreading nonsense like that!
it's disrespectful è_é
She haven't done her homework on Japan's very well prepared on this kind of disaster.
obviously, if she know how "good" is malaysia infrastructre compare with japan
I just watched the video but she merely said that countries should becareful where they build infrastructures such as nuclear reactors and that we should learn from our mistakes. This is partially true because those nuclear reactors in Japan are in a position very prone to earthquakes. I do not see how she is saying Japan is not environmentally friendly.
It says at the start of the video the way they developed was environmentally unfriendly but what country doesnt develop environmentally unfriendly just look at China it is a great example
That is what the reporter said and not exactly the words of the Malaysian first lady said I believe.
What The Hell!???....now this!, before this it was a local newspaper in malaysia "Berita Harian" making headline, check this out http://dailycontributor.com/malaysian-newspaper-apologizes-over-tsunami-caricature/20570/
oh man, it is embarrassing...the 1st lady making such ridiculous comment, and local newspaper making fun with cartoon caricature
I heard about that cartoon, it was on the newspaper apparently people were really angry about that
Umm... first of all earthquake occurs because of earth's movement. It's beyond human's reach to control that (does she think of human being can act as god?). Even if humanity does no impact to nature this thing WILL (WITH NO DOUBT) OCCURS when it has to be occurred. Clearly that she's only using her husband's position to become celebrity.
Well, after Ultraman caricature, now this i call she a stupid lady.... not a first lady....
people around this world are sympathies about what happen in Japan....
hope this lady can get back her word.. and make "sorry" to what she has saying...
for example : check this news http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/china/2011-03/18/c_13786279.htm you knows him right?, this the leader show how condolences for the victims of massive earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
i`m amazed(not in positive way) she can said that.....she should think about the people feelings right now..not the infrastructure..oh lady be mindful with your mouth, karma is comin for ya..
What the-- EARTHQUAKES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH CLIMATE CHANGE! WTF. Before you go around making comments as a public figure, you should do the damn research first, lady.
I'll admit the earthquake did leave a certain educational impact on me, but it's NOT the one she's talking about. Japan is probably the most earthquake-prepared country in the world, even though it's definitely not the only one prone to them. As such, despite the magnitude of the quake, more damage was done by the tsunami than directly by the quake itself, but still, it's staggering to see how much damage occurred even though they were relatively well prepared.
Then I think about a prediction released by a US Government think tank in the late 90's, listing the three worst disasters that could befall the US, both economically and in loss of life: terrorist attack in New York, rank 4 or higher hurricane in New Orleans, and an earthquake in San Francisco. Despite their statements of how bad these things could be, and how well researched it was, these three cities did basically nothing to prepare, even though the latter two were always known to be when-not-if scenarios. Even AFTER two of the three disasters have actually occurred, to my knowledge San Francisco's basically done just short of nada to prepare for theirs. I hope this gets them off their butts do do something, because if the damage was this bad with all the preparation and drilling people in Japan have done for an earthquake, unprepared San Francisco is going to be TOAST when theirs hits as things stand currently.
Malaysia Boleh?
It's really embarrassing to hear something like this coming from not just any other person on the street but the 1st lady...
The roofs and ceiling of our buildings and stadiums collapse when there isn't even a tsunami or earthquake. I guess Malaysia is really an example for other countries on how not to build their infrastructures...
oh comon, it shouldn't be that bad. I mean, I live in the USA. Look at how much idiocy I have to deal with
Hahahaha!
I find this to be ridiculous funny!
She's obviously making a mockery of herself.
Its embarrassing!
We should just all go together and start a riot. Hopefully we can run her out just like Egypt.
if she is smart enough to realize, the majority of the damage came from the Tsunami that followed, not the quake itself. It's the same idea with the old San Francisco fire. Teaches her how much she knows engineering
Well, she could of worded it nicer maybe but I see it as saying that other countries with power plants should learn from this and not take things for granted, re-check our plants for safety, reevaluate them maybe step up disaster precautions, expect worse then what you assume could happen to make sure the situation could be taken care of efficiently and with as little casualties as possible.
Now if she outright said "This is a lesson to Japan" or "This is teaching Japan a lesson". Then yeah that would be offensive, BUT as everyone has been saying the news lies and over exaggerates and the offensive part was spoken by a news reporter/spokesperson while as the actual statement was said by the Malaysian first lady which she said nothing directly about Japan, but only saying we should learn from this. I'm not reading what she's saying as being intentionally offensive. It looks like the news reporter/spokesperson is putting words in her mouth.
anyone else notice this too or did I miss something? I'm kinda really tired atm.
instead of wasting her energy to do stupid things, she should help. *sigh* wrong people in power they never bring good.
Id h as ve to agree with Ayoli, looked more like "lets learn from this" not so much "thatll teach you".
it's the same thing as Ishihara saying it's divine punishment
people need to decide their words REGARDLESS of what they want it to mean.
not mean it so bluntly
He has no idea who Ishihara is, nor I, but anyway
From this video, The first Lady didn't say ANYTHING but this, this is what we SAW her say directly:
Thew news reporter was the one saying she said those other things. How can we be sure the news isn't lying? Aren't people saying the news is exaggerating about Japan right now?
I dunno, I don't pay attention to politics, I find it boring tbh. I just like to analyze things thoroughly before I make any kind of assumption or judgment towards others =x
It is still an arrogant comment nonetheless; a play on politics to leap her forward in poll number ratings, or in this case, aid her husband to be much more of a better man than his opposition.
*Points to her above comments*
I think my point is being missed but oh well =/
The fact that she starts by stating "This is a lesson" does not make this a friendly comment or a word of wisdom. She follows with her core belief of "they should research first the surrounding areas and link it to climate change and green technology". Fine, I am for green tech, and sustainability if it leads to a better future. HOWEVER, an Earthquake has nothing to do with Climate Change, nor does a tsunami. So in essence:
"Because of such geologic disaster that can strike any given country, we must usher in a new era of clean technology".
This, in my opinion of looking at government and how much they bicker (at least state side), tells me it's a ploy to boost her husband's rating and popularity in the growing anti-nuclear movement, which has begun again. This is not a bad thing, but timing is always key in politics. To me, this was too soon. This could have been TEPCO's fault with the government aiding it by not regulating against them strictly. HOWEVER, it can also be a sequence of very unfortunate events that could have led to such catastrophe.
I mean, sorry if I sound like I am biting your head off. But this is, in fact, a stupid comment. It makes it even worse that the report goes on to say at the end "She is sorry for the government and the people affected". Not to mention, there still are regulations, as much as people hate it, against these sort of things that SHOULD prevent such high risk places from becoming hazardous against disasters -but no one can anticipate a 9.0.
It's fine. Don't know what to say at this point except I probably should of ignored this topic. Hope I didn't make anyone mad. Sorry Barsona and everyone.
Sorry if I put you up on a wall. But things online with the stupid comments being spoken in person sorta tick me off -like the response of this Earthquake is some what different, compared to the Haiti quake.
iono, it's also the fact that I am running on little sleep, and writing an essay that is almost due
No worries, I don't know much about politics to be discussing them anyway and I've seen all kinds of comments about what's been going on in Japan, good, bad, horrible. I just know that they have my support as well as others, that's all that should matter really. Good luck on your essay, those are never fun.
One word:
Ouch.
Is she in office at all?
I hope not for the "shit hitting the fan"-ness that would come if she was.
D:
three words .. Yay For Malaysia ! *sarcasm mode* ... u can see the girl next to her face reaction .. thats answers everything ...
Remember that in every action there's an equal reaction and here is our version. First Lady of Malaysia is a shame.
