To find other highly compatible Otaku, we first need to know about you. We already know that you're an Otaku, so you're interests already match several others on the site. But we dig deeper than that to figure out what you're really interested in, because even though we all like the same things, we are all different.

Then you progress to our match system, where we ask several questions about you - most of which are related to anime. "Official"? Heck no. It's made by a group of people that just makes a bunch of niche websites - they're not actually Otaku. I'm Ryan Kopf, a huge anime fan and chief editor of UpcomingCons.com, and I made MaiOtaku specifically because of corporate websites that just want to take our Otaku's money. "OtakuxCrush" specifically says don't put contact info in your pictures or profile - because they plan on MAKING IT A PAY SITE in the future. MaiOtaku will never become a pay site.
Mai Otaku does have a "premium membership" so they are asking people to pay for some advance services as well. So to be fair, your site also asks for payment to access advanced communication features like other dating sites. Granted, your rate is far lower than those; but still asking for payment; so I don't really think you can use that argument.
The premium rate is a lot lower than dating websites, yes, but that's not the main idea. Most dating websites prevent you from having ANY contact with a person (except maybe a wink or two to get you more interested) until you pay. Users can comment and send messages on MaiOtaku for free. These websites don't want you chatting outside of their website, so that they can keep you paying for communication - which is why you'll notice most of them say things about not posting emails or IMs anywhere public. It's so they can get people to pay to get that information.

I always hate it when dating sites are pay only. So I'm mostly on Okcupid, which isn't. But honestly, being a male on a dating site? Soul-crushing :(
Interesting, but a recent brain sex test has indicated that I am a gender neutral person with complete balanced brain activity, otherwise I might give this a shot.
