NEWS Volks SD GOSICK characters

Volks have been known to re-release stuff in slightly different formats before but I dont think you'll see Rozen Maidens in DD format

I think the main reason they've released these as SDs instead of DDs was in reference in the show itself that Victorique herself looks very doll-like. They're probably reserving dolls as SDs, whereas DDs is more of an in between doll/action figure(think giant figma with more options).

I'm personally not worried about them being SDs, etc, as if I were really keen on making a doll out to be a particular character, I could probably just invest in the parts/items to recreate a character on my own. Were I to be upset, I would be upset about not having those costume items in other doll sizes if I wanted to do up a doll in that fashion.

I think this SD looks nothing like her too. It sure is a pretty doll but totally not Victorica.
Victorique would look so perfect in MDD form. Maybe I should finally take the resolution to start saving up money to make one myself. I have already started to look around for parts and heads which would suit Victorica the best.

Keep in mind that the glass eyes used for the doll could be a rather bright green, but if it uses black lining, and in most lighting, the glass eyes will look considerably darker. Short of using a lineless, or white lined eye, or using a very vivid green, most glass eyes tend not to look particularly bright unless the light catches is just so. That's just the nature of Volk's Glass eyes(one of the main reasons I tend not to buy volks' glass eyes), and one of the main reasons I don't purchase glass eyes from them.

To be honest though, unless you translated a anime design into an anime doll(and lets be honest here, how many DDs actually look like splitting images of their original artwork?), there will be things lost in their transfer to another media.

Think of it this way. When would you cound a cosplay as an accurate representation of the character? Do they have to look like they're suppose to be 2D? Or is the idea to translate a 2D character into a human proxy? Would you then consider the cosplay attempt a sucess if the character looks right, but gets their personality all wrong?

SD and DDs are done as artist impressions of a character. IMO, a DD's design brief tends to lean less towards creating a persona from scratch and more towards recreating exsisting characters. SDs tend to be done IMO with a more elegant goal, creating a doll and persona that should be considered aesthetically beautiful instead of just being a recreation.

Personally, as someone who collects dolls of both types, I think Victorique is a pretty good representation of what she might look like if she exsisted in the same world as us. Keep in mind that she tends to open up mainly only to Kujo anyway, and if you were to just run into her, you'd probably be ignored by her anyhow. IMO, this doll has that air to her that says she'll only open up to you if you treated her nicely and got to know her. Strangers beware, you're gonna get the cold shoulder~
