1/144 Exia Avalanche Dash WiP

New WiP project. Or rather, reopening of a WiP. This is one of a few I have built, but not painted or detailed in any way. I intend to polish up this bad boy and make him presentable for BlueFin's Gunpla Tournament. I know there's already going to be some fantastic kits there on display, but I'm hoping to win some points for using a model that isn't as popular as say... ANYTHING from SEED. I have until April 22nd, which is the first day of Sakuracon and where entries will be judged.

As far as paint goes, I really like Exia. It's probably my favorite mobile suit from 00 other than the GN-X (the MG is sitting in a box in the corner, taunting me in my dreams with, "BUILD ME"). With that in mind, I'm keeping the color scheme as close to the original as possible. Sure, we don't see the Avalanche version in the series, but it's still neat. If it wasn't for the time constraint, I'd paint it with arctic camouflage as per the name, "Avalanche". Ok, so it's not just the amount of time I have; it's mostly because I'm not confident enough in my painting ability to create a camo pattern.

I'll hopefully have time to work on this guy between class and jury duty later in the month (blah). Wish me luck!

Built, posed, and ready to be taken apart. This is gonna be the last time it's gonna be whole in about a month! *sweats*

Blurry gunpla toolbox picture is blurry.

The runners I didn't use that came with the kit. Most of it is for building normal Exia. Not sure if I want to somehow incorporate any of this yet.

In the process of taking it apart (and I'm not even done doing that yet) I managed to snap off two 'male' pegs from different sections. The top one being the waist which holds the legs in place! Gah! *mild panic* But that's ok! When it's all done and finished, that can be cemented - or epoxy'd.

The legs and 'dash' units removed. At first, I thought the parts that looked like skis were kinda dumb, but they grow on you. I like how they fold back behind the knee, but with the 'dash' installed, Exia can no longer stand on it's feet and relys on the included stand.

The head disassembled into it's parts minus the fin because I had to putty it. I got a little overzealous cutting it from the runner and accidentally took a small chunk out of it. It's only visible from the back, but I figured there's no better time to fix it than now.

All the weapons and the GN sword taken apart. You get a total of 4 beam sabers for mounting on the shoulders, and one that's ignited. I say ignited, but it's just a piece of white plastic. Bad form, Bandai! Why include a beam saber that isn't made of pretty transparent plastic?

The only part on here that's painted is the clear part in the chest there, and I intend to strip off that clear green and redo it.
