My Experience at TGS 09 - Lots of pics!
Today was my first time at a Tokyo Game Show convention and it was awesome! There were so many booths set up by big names such as Sony, Microsoft, Capcom, Konami, Sega, Namdai, and Squeenix. They all had big games to show, but in my opinion, Squeenix stole the show by having a wide lineup of solid, high budget games. I'll get to that later.
Sony and Microsoft had big booths dedicated to showing various titles that be coming for the system. There weren't any big revelations, but people were lining for a long time to get in. Playable titles included new Uncharted, new Ratchet and Clank, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Left for Dead 2, and Halo 3.1.
Capcom had the 2nd strongest showing, I would say. They had big, decorated booths for Ghost Trick (a mystery game for the DS), Okami, Biohazard: Darkside Chronicles, and Tatsu v. Cap Ultimate All-stars. I stuck around for the TvC exhibition, where they had the producers demo some new characters. I haven't played the original TvC, but I think the new characters were Frank West and Tekkaman. Frank West was pretty quirky. He could summon zombies riding shopping carts and transform into Megaman, doing a huge MvC style beam super. Not sure who Tekkaman is, but he had long reach.
Konami had a big booth and event for the MGS: Peace Walker for the PSP. MGS has a pretty big following for such a complicated storyline. Other Konami games included new Silent Hill and Ninety Nine Nights, and Tokimeki Memorial 4. Tokimemo 4 also attracted a large crowd. I guess otaku fondly remember the earlier games.
Sega's main event seemed to be Puyopuyo 7. They made a fake show for it and had people talk about it. I didn't really pay attention because I like Puyopuyo for the gigantic monster chains, not the relaxing, casual play. PLAY TO WIN. Their other big showings were Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Phantasy Star Portable 2, both for the PSP.
Namdai showed a bunch of franchised based games, which tend to be mediocre. But I'll be damned if I didn't want to play Nanoha on PSP. Oh yes. Other franchises include SRW, Macross F, FMA, Gundam, and Queen's Blade. And there was Tekken 6, the newest clunky juggle fest. Besides Nanoha, the only other game I really liked was Idolmaster DS.
Squeenix - Squeenix had a huge lineup of games. To get to play FF13 or the new KH, you needed to get a ticket to play them in advance and then wait in line for however many hours it took. Who knows, it might have been worth it to hardcore FF fans. Their biggest attraction was a 40 minute long video displaying all the games that will be coming out in the near future. This includes a bunch of FFs for every console (including FF13, FF 14, Crystal Bearers, Dissidia) and some other cool games like Star Ocean 4 and a new Front Mission. The FF13 trailer was jaw dropping. I have never been excited for any modern FF game since all you do in them is navigate menus, but FF13 really impressed me. The combat actually looks interactive and the setting looks very imaginative. Actually, I just think Oerba and Serah are hot. I am also a sucker for airship battles, drama, and JPOP, which is the whole trailer. It was beautiful.

This game was there.

Lining up in the sea off people.

First thing I saw when I entered. Is NG any good? I've heard mixed reviews about it the series.

Koei's button mashing Musou (Dynasty Warrior) series. They're making a Musou game set in Troy!

Some posters at Capcom booths. Apparently girls like the character designs of Basara?

I saw this sign go up to 240 minutes, aka 4 hours. I guess people are really looking forward to the new Wii Biohazard.

Alienware had an awesome booth consisting of computers running Biohazard 5 and SF4. And there was no huge line to play. It was one of my favorite booths, too bad the competition was weak.

Anyone here follow graphics cards news? The computer I played on had dual 1GB 5870s. It was amazing. 1.7%.

Nanoha goodies! Figmas!

Detail of everything you get in the more expensive special edition box.

Game looks good in motion. I enjoy Fate very much.

Staions for imas DS. Funny how Ryo became the most popular idol even before the game came out.

Download station for imas DS. There were a lot of guys crowded around here.

Big FF13 art, roped off so I don't perform indecent acts to them.

My ride, in the middle of the exhibition hall.

Hey, I forgot to rotate this. I had lots of good memories of PSO, but PSU ruined the franchise for me. These girls are pretty cute, maybe PSPo could be fun?

Squeenix sound exhibit.

Food court was packed. There were no chairs because they take up too much room. People ate standing at the tables.

$5 for this small portion of sub-par curry rice.

Armor at a booth showcasing samurai games.

Time to go home. It took me 50 minutes to the station, maybe because I got lost.

This is where the sea of people once was. Pretty eerie afterwards.

A baseball game ended around the same time as the convention, so a huge amount of people were buying train tickets home. If only I didn't have to recharge my card, I could've avoided the whole line. Also, a little kid kept touching my butt, and the mother kept apologizing.

TGS was an absolute blast today. Sadly, I won't be going back tomorrow. Will be uploading and blogging about it soon!
Isn't it the same thing tomorrow? Also, did you eat across from someone in a blue polo today?
Yes, more of the same tomorrow, but I work for one of the companies that represented. I stopped by to say hello (I'm on vacation and from a completely unrelated business unit). Might have been able to use my employment status to sway some favors. :)
I was actually looking to see if I was any of your crowd photos. I was dressed rather uniquely, wearing an "i bing, u bing?" t-shirt. That should give you a clue as to who I work for. ^.^;;
So what shirt are you be wearing tomorrow? ;) I'll be on a lookout!
OMG, i meant what shirt will you be wearing tomorrow... WTB edit button.
Awesome!! I wish I was there (T_T) I really need to get my hands on NGS2 and FFXIII. Biohazard: Darkside Chronicles demo line for 220min?!?! ouch!! I hope you had a great time there!
Cool. Those are nice FF posters.
disappointed with the grand turismo game for the psp though, and the fact people were waiting for it but ended up getting a half assed game. little fun factor on it. but cant wait for the new MG game
That's one sorry excuse of a curry... don't give too much toppings, the plate will overflow! *sarcasm* ahahahaha it's sad how greedy they are with teh food in those events, that's why I never buy stuff there, no matter how hungry I am.
ANOTHER Kingdom Hearts?? man, I haven't even finished the first one, I need to get my KH experience going or else I'll be left behind...
Getting so sick of waiting for the english release. Already played the japanese version to death.
