My Japan Food Photos

Posted by Jul [www]

After seeing a couple of your posts on Japan food, I thought I'd join in and dug out the food photos from my trip to Japan last year.

I kindof just took photos randomly of my food, so its not the best or worst of the food I ate, just random. Won't include any drink photos, but I have a large collection of photos of vending machines as well. I love Japanese vending machines.

First meal in Japan. Was knackered after the flight so ordered some room service in my hotel in Kyoto (was there for work the first week of my trip).

That hotel had two breakfast restaurant options - Japanese and Western. On my first morning I tried out the Japanese option.

Oh, and I was dubious with the fish as it was breaking my vegetarianism, but I knew I was going to do that this trip anyway, I heard Japan is terrible for vegetarians.

Kitsune Soba. The cheapest meal I ate in Japan. Absolutely starving after walking around temples all day and this was the first place I saw. Gave me some energy back!

Sushi at my favourite stand-up sushi bar in Shinjuku train station. I went there a lot. The first time I just got this set dish. But later times I just pointed to what I wanted individually and they made it and placed it on a leaf for me. Never had sushi so good before or since.

Okonomiyaki in Hiroshima. There was this whole building with 30-40 Okonomiyaki stands in it. Just picked a random one and ate away. Was so big. Not so tasty though.

The most perfect lunch spot next to the beach in Naoshima. Loved that island.

I also had instant noodles in the dark sitting on the beach for dinner.

Tofu restaurant in Takeyama. This place was really great. So many varieties of tofu. I'd already eaten but had to go in and try a few different types out anyway.

Hida-gyu. Aka, really expensive beef. The Japanese seem to love their expensive types of beef. Up in Takeyama they have Hida-gyu, I ate quite a lot of it (well, not a lot, as you can see, you pay a lot and get only a small amount).

Should have taken some pictures when we went to a ridiculously expensive beef restaurant in Kyoto.

There are lots of places like this where you have to sit on the floor on Tatami mats. The best ones are the places with the holes in the floor so you can rest your legs. None of us liked eating sitting cross legged.

Awesome food post! I'm really glad I posted some pics cause I got to see all those marvelous Japanese meals! BTW, I like Tsukishima's monjya yaki and okonomiyaki more than hiroshima yaki. But it's all a matter of taste! Take care!
