1/144 HG QAN(T) & Full saber...CATASTROPHE!

As this would be my last build for the considerable future I've been eager to make a start yet not rush into it and muck things up. Over the past few days I've been painstakingly priming the pieces and today I finished up priming the saber parts.

Whilst these were drying I inspected the parts that made up the buster sword/rifle, even went as far as painting them up - using a similar method as the last kit/s. I've just discovered upon a test fit the paint seemed to be wearing off particularly easily and to my horror I was able to scrape the paint + primer layer off with just my finger nail...ARGH!

I've just looked at all the primed pieces and found everything is oddly tacky, the primer hasn't taken to any of it! To say I'm over the moon is far from the truth - there's been several choice words flying about.

*You'll have to excuse the photo, taken on phone - the white piece is the primed saber part that I've been able to scrape off with a finger nail. (Tried it on a few other parts that have been drying for longer & same thing.)

It now look like in order to save this project it looks like I am going to have to clean up every single piece to remove the crappy primer as best I can before starting again! This is going to be painstakingly lengthy but I'm not going to waste this kit!

...Hopefully by when I get it cleaned up and to be painted again, I'm certainly considering buying the spray paint in the colours I need rather than priming and painting it!

I'm sorry that happened, that has happened to me before.
did you wash the parts before adding the primer?
I'm asking this because sometimes, the chemicals that is used to remove the runners from the model stays on.

I've heard that's something to do, I've washed parts in the past but on some occasions I've not and to be honest there's been no difference in the coating. Although as I was cutting the parts from the frames I was cleaning up the nub marks and giving things a v.light sand so thought I'd be ok.

I'm not sure if it's because I had to change primers mid-way through as I was finishing off an old can, the 2 haven't mixed. Or if as I was letting parts dry one evening I left them out & when I went to get them there'd been a very light drizzle of rain and things were a bit wet.

It's only these parts that seem to be worse effected (which makes things a bit easier) but I'm looking at others and considering giving them a light sand again.

i have the same problem. i wash it with normal bathing soap. is it okay? or should i use detergent that are used for dish washing instead?

i primer the parts, paint a layer on it. then put some masking tape. when i pull away the masking tape, the primer just peel off together leaving the parts like its unpainted from the start. other parts i can also scratch it off easily with finger nails.

yeah, I tend to do something like that as I'm cleaning up nub marks but never had this happen before...typically this had to happen on a kit I got imported from HobbyLink. (can't just nip out to shops if it goes disastrously wrong ^_^)

      *sigh

I've not come across 'oxiclean' before, may have to google it. Hopefully it's not something specific to the US but I'll figure something out...thanks
