Shin-ôkubo, Tokyo, where I stayed for a month...
Following the Shibuya pics post, these pictures were taken in Shin-ôkubo, very close to Shinjuku, in Tokyo, from March 2nd to April 1st 2011. I wanted to share those with you. Enjoy and feel free to ask questions if you want!
P.S.: Sorry if it takes time to load, it's a very picture heavy post!

This was the first time I saw the entrance in real life.

Home sweet home! Even though it was really small, it satisfied me plenty and I really felt comfortable in that apartment.

Small kitchen area that I used to make some Japanese curry and make breakfast. I think the worst part of the earthquake for me was to hold on the small stove/toaster and microwave to prevent them from falling!

"Uma" or plum tree in bloom right in front of the apart.

The balcony ramp where I installed my lumix to take long exposure shots.

The view from my balcony.

We can see the Tokyo Mode Art university in the top left corner. I was very close to Shinjuku and it was very convenient.

First HDR attempt from my balcony. What do you think?

I had 4 Gundam Kizuna arcade pods at my disposal every day, since they were always empty and everyone was at another arcade next to this one playing the Gundam vs Gundam Next Extreme arcade instead.

A small "koen" , or park near my place.

There was lots of cats in Shin-ôkubo, and they didn't look like stray cats since they had flee collars.

Bright sunny day.

Sun rays were heating my apartment so I didn't really need to use the air con. Ended up never using it to save power and do my part, but the sun helped me a lot!

What? I woke up one morning to a snow fall outside.

Wasn't snowing much at first, but it started to accumulate quickly.

Lelouch making a Heero Yuy pose.

Ended up looking quite lovely outside.

I was really pleased to see snow in Tokyo. I love snow, but only in certain occasions or for a certain time. Like today, April 21st, it snowed where I live in Quebec, and it's supposed to be spring, so I was a bit mad and didn't like it. But for me, occasions like Christmas or melancholy feelings need some snow.

Empty back streets of Shin-ôkubo at night.

Awesome 100yen vending machines very close to my place. Gotta love Boss coffee! They had a new flavor, Half&Half, which tasted lovely.

There was a kinder-garden near the apart and you could hear kids play in the day. It was very refreshing and joyful!

On the roof of my place to snap some quick shots. I should have went back some other time since it was very windy and the shots didn't turned very good.

I love Tokyo. This was March 10th.

This was the day of the big Tohoku earthquake and this was the most damage we had on the 3rd floor of the apart.

Trying for the first time the ND filter for my lumix.

Shots at night got darker, but still, looked kinda good.

A small shrine right next to where I was.

Looked very old but charming.

On the top left corner you can see some Sakuras, they were the first one I saw on that trip.

Bright and warm sunny day in Tokyo!

The moon was rising quickly as the sun hadn't set yet. (this phrase sound weird...)

Closer view of some pachinko and stores on the main Shin-ôkubo street with the moon in the sky

The small park on the apartment street at night. Very clean and peaceful place.

Some houses near my apart.

The front of the Shin-ôkubo Sakura house!

Shin-ôkubo main street with a lovely sunset lighting setting.

The other side of the main street with the moon peaking through the electric wires.

The JR Yamanote line train bound for Shinjuku and Shibuya. 9mins from Shibuya. The stops to get there from Shin-ôkubo are : Shinjuku, Yoyogi, Harajuku and Shibuya.

The moon was still visible the next morning after a long night.

Sun rays through the clouds.

Sun rays through the clouds!

This was the last night before leaving. I had to take a quick snap since I like the view very much.

Leaving my apartment, I made a quick stop at the park and drank my last Boss coffee, classic and heated since it was still spring.

Leaving for the station to catch my train for Narita. The N'Ex lines were canceled that day, so I took an alternative: The Keio line.

this is probably my favorite out of em :P
It was about 7h30 PM and very calm at the park. I really liked how clean it was and the lighting was very nice.
I liked the colors of green and blue with the shadows. Yeah I envy their cleanness there
How does the toilet in your apartment look like? do you have to squat or sit ?
It's a more western style toilet, but it has the "wash your hands" sink on top of the toilet tank.
Lovely photos. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I'll post some more in the near future. I really like looking at all the post of travelers so I thought I might share too.
Love the pics, I leave on the 6th of May its been so long waiting for this trip the last few days is gonna be killer.
Nice! Enjoy your trip!! Where will you be staying? How long is your stay? Be sure to share your pictures while you're there or when you get back! :D
Hotel Yangaibasi Taito-Ku for 15 days, best part is it's close to Akihabara
Thanks. Very nice location! XD I wish you have a blast in Japan! 日本万歳!
Great pics really like the ones with the snow.
Thanks! It was a very nice and unique day during my month there. I had a great time!
Thank you for sharing your experience!.. ^^ Your pictures are very, very good. :D
Well thanks! But I think i still need to learn a lot about photography! Some pictures have bad framing or bad angles and I would like more control on the DoF. But I really like taking pictures! :D I can't wait to go back and take some more.
thanks for sharing your photos with us!
No prob! Glad you enjoyed them!
Kamen Rider soda! I got the KR Black one last year in Hakone.
Sadly, I only noticed this after looking back at the pictures back in Canada, and didn't get any while I was there. I regret this very much!! XD I think it would have been worst if it had been the Kamen Rider Black version. Minami Kotaro was so bad-ass!! :D
Great pics. Love the "local color" style of photos for showing real life in Japan. I took a bunch of pics in Nezu where my hotel is so maybe I should post them before I head off to Japan.
Thanks! You really should post those pics as I think a lot of people like them. We all like big landmarks like Tokyo tower, the TOCHO building, Mori tower or even the Asashi building in Asakusa, but we've seen them a lot of times and looking at back streets or daily life pics of Tokyo or Japan is something I really like.
Just posted them. Hope you like.
Broken down fox shrine? Guess we need to repair it to please the fox gods :P
Yes definitely! There was a few smaller shrines scattered around with more Kitsune big and small. You can see the old rock statue next to the shrine in the picture all broken down. Really need some repairs!
Awesome picture's very good quality ^^v makes me wanna go visit too hehe.
Thanks!! I hope you can go there someday soon! It's a very unique and wonderful place! :D
some lovely photos you got in there;)
seems like you had a lovely time! and thanks for sharing!
It was my 4th time and best trip yet! Next time, it'll be even longer! Take care and thank you for your comment!
So lovely! It has the same feel when I watch anime :3
wow thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed them! :D
some of the images looks so clean and beautiful, you might think they'd be fake. I also stayed in Shinjuku but in a hotel during my week in Japan. It was very close to Kabuki-cho. Thank you for the pictures.
Glad you liked them!! I passed through Kabukicho almost every day and every night as it's very close to Shin-ôkubo and it's kind of a shortcut to get to Shinjuku. I love that place! XD I don't want to be judging or anything, but i tried to take good pics and avoided taking pictures with trash or garbage on the ground. I know Japan is very clean, and for a big city with lots of population as Tokyo, it's amazingly clean. But, in Shin-ôkubo, I noticed that there was a lot of trash scattered around and some abandoned houses were used as garbage piling sites. But it was very localized and as soon as you got closer to Shinjuku or even Kabukicho, you could see it got cleaner and in the day, the squads of Shinjuku cleaning street staff were busy as bees!
it looks like a movie setting. Beautiful.
I really like that park. The lighting in the night was very nice!
very nice pics, thanks for sharing
Glad you liked them! :D
