Nendo’s Travelogue Along Railway Tracks
Yesterday, comrade Kodomut and I headed out to one of the more hidden spots in Singapore for chapter 5 of the Nendo’s Travelogue. Our chosen location was the old Bukit Timah Railway Station which was located far away from the main road and did not have much human traffic except for the occasional mountain bikers.
Edit: Just one word of caution for those who intend to visit the train tracks – Do check the timing of the oncoming train before conducting the photoshoot. We did check with the station master before the shoot so we were well aware when it was coming and from which direction. Once again I would like to stress that It is very dangerous to shoot on any live train tracks ^^

Group Shot

Crossing the tracks is dangerous, so its important to walk in a straight line.

Kagami discover a new rare breed of bears that only live beside the train tracks

Here's a clip of Zetsubo waiting for the train

Rin throws a rock onto Miku's head

Pedobear, is that you? XD
Saw the Ojou twin's clip at Twitter... LOL XD
Awesome picture :D
Actually placing them in a strait line is even more dangerous for you. The track is in use (which I could easily tell even before noticing the video).
Moving around railroad tracks is not only illegal, it's also dangerous. People get surprised by non-passenger carrying trains moving a high speed.
Also those rocks are a whole lot nastier than they look. I know a guy who broke a toe by just walking on such rocks. Sure he was unlucky with the rock placement and had thin shoes, but still.... >_<
The first picture is interesting. You can see how the wheels takes off the rust from the track. However even though the wheels are actually driving on the edge of the track, the lack of rust is on the middle of the rail. If you look at image16764 then it's almost like the train drives on the left side of the rail, while it should drive on the right. I wonder how that happened O_O
I suspect some sort of tilted track (specially considering the state of the wooden sleepers), but still... I didn't expect it to look like this.
lol rare breed of kumas! :3c
love the last pic!
You can find rare animals near railroad tracks, such as spiders and stuff. The reason is that instead of using local rock they look for the cheapest ones. This means railroads in Europe sometimes use rocks from China while USA use rocks from the UK. It goes without saying that they do not check all the rocks for hidden spider eggs, slug eggs or any other potentially harmful passengers (believe it or not but slugs can be quite harmful to local plants and small animals).
I know the most dangerous known spider in this country is believed to be imported with rocks for a railroad.
Speaking of railroads and how they interfere with nature. Did you notice the high amount of appletrees next to railroads? They appear because passengers years ago ate apples while travelling and once they were done they just threw the remains out the window. It will not happen anymore because now the trains has garbage cans inside and the windows can't open.
o_O ... now I see why ur title is mad scientist! xD
O_O
How can it be that I'm called a mad scientists when I write something "normal" like this and not when I write something like this?
I'm still puzzled by the comments in that post but maybe it was too "mad scientific" for most people...
I never get tired of the clip.
LOL!
Yeah the clip was so funny that we were very glad we managed to captured it on film.
Nice pics. Hopefully you din't risk your life for those pics!
Pastel Ink seems a little but lost up there^^ (ID#16762)
Funny youtube clip. Hopefully they have no injuries.
Considering the first and the last pic: Rin is evil... and not just elementary school evil.
We made sure we know when and where the train was coming from before we started the shoot ^^
Looking at the train schedule gives false security. Railroads has a number of trains not listed in the public schedule. For security reasons you should always expect unscheduled trains to show up.
Yup good point. Most of the time, one of us was shooting while the other kept watch.
Safety protocol tells that if somebody is "too close" to the tracks then that person needs to be guarded. This means a person is a lookout around 1 km away and has a constant on radio link. Since trains can come from both directions you will need two such guards. Your guard has no way of giving a warning in advance. Remember the warning should arrive and you should move away well before the train arrives. Otherwise the driver will be scared and may apply brakes and stuff. All of a sudden you scared yourself, the driver and you might even cause a delay. Not very clever.
And do watch the video I linked to further down. Basically it shows what happens if you are surprised by a train and rush too much to get away (it's not a bloody mess in that video though... I wouldn't link to anything like that)
lol The train video is very amusing, knowing the train won't stop for Figmas and Nendo.
Excellent photo shoot! I particularly like #16762 (the third one).
A little bit closer and you can say your Drossel goodbye :D
Seriously, I ever see a news about someone got killed because he's too close to the train when it's moving.
He's standing further on the red line, that's why.
If a person could say goodbye to his life like that, then your figures could be the same D:
I noticed some houses nearby~
My grandparents house's like that, so it's pretty noisy when trains passing by XD
Oh, who's the one that was walking right after the train?
A random person? :D
Actually kodomut did place them very close to the edge initially, then I reminded him that they might fall onto the tracks when the trains come. So thanks to my advice, the Ojou twin were saved ^^
The person walking right after the train was the station master.
Very few people realise the dangers of being close to a moving train. Two issues people usually overlook:
1: a train is much wider than the gauge. A train can easily be around 3 meters wide, even when the gauge is only 1435 mm (most common one) or even 1067 mm (most common in Japan).
2: a moving train makes a vacuum underneath. People are literally sucked in underneath trains when they are places they shouldn't be.
How did he respond to you being "too close" to the tracks? ^^
Here it would result in fines. In fact people can get jailed for not moving out of the way if a train is approaching (some law regarding preventing public movement).
Although I have always been fond of railways and find them to be wonderful subjects, I just can't enjoy these pictures on the tracks, it just seems so dangerous. It makes me nervous just looking. I mean if the pictures were taken from afar it would be ok, but actually placing things on the rails and inbetween the tracks is just too reckless for my tastes.
Even if you are being careful, you could still so easily be killed ;_; I don't even want to think about it.
I feel the same way. If you really want to break the law and do something like this, at least pick a siding, not the main tracks. People will not really notice the difference in the pictures (the tracks are more rusty) and it's a whole lot safer.
Makes me think of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvatEyvVTZI
It shows that even if you plan ahead things will not always go as you plan. I don't think those guys planned much of this though.
awww~ nendoroids are the cutest ting.. > <
love those photos~ <3
HAHAHAHA the video. Good job.
Poor Drossels xD Nice vid!
nendo pastel ink =x= ..im hardly wishing for this nendo TnT
