All the HDR I made this year in Japan

Posted by Rurouni Heero

こんにちはみなさん! I wanted to share these attempts at HDR with you all. They were all shot in RAW using a Lumix LX3 with three different exposure shot of +2/0/-2 and processed using Photomatix Pro 4.0.

I like HDR but try not to go on the painterly or over processed side of it. Please feel free to share your thoughts and pass on any tips if you want, it would really help!

I hope you enjoy them! And sorry if the same subject tends to repeat itself as I tried different settings and tried different effects.

This was before taking off to New Ark to catch my main flight to Japan. Of course, behind windows there's always some reflection if you don't have a polarized filter or something to block those reflections...

Again, one of the views you can get from the Mori tower observatory. It was actually my birthday the day I went, and I was with amazing company...

I cropped and removed noise on this one. It's my favorite of the bunch.

Zoomed a bit to get a better view. From the TOCHO building, one side you can get from one of the tower observatory.

And last but not the least, the RX-78-2 Gundam life size statue on the last weekend of the Shizuoka hobby fair. Sadly, the site closed at 6PM, which was too early to get nice evening or night views, and also, they didn't do the light and sound shows anymore. Actually, if we had stayed till the next day, they did a 7 minutes fully lighted and steam with music and all for the last time before disassembling it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uewr2AMlHHY&feature=related

Looks like it's either Computer Generated or painted if I wouldn't know it's an actual picture

Great photos. The Mount Fuji photos with the red sky remind me abit of dogma.

Cool. My desktop resolution is 1680 X 1050 so as long as they are that size at least it will be great. I guess a link to sendspace would be the best. Thanks.

My desktop resolution is also 1680x1050 but I use the "fit" option on WIn7, which looks better IMO than stretch or cropped. But I'll let you do as you please and put them in original resolution in the zip file. Enjoy! Here you go! http://www.sendspace.com/file/z4it5b

Hey no prob! Numeric photos turn out differently depending on the screens they're on, like they show quite nicely on my small 15" laptop screen, brighter than on my 21". Well, no matter what screen they're on, Japan pictures always look nice to me! XD

I have them on my flickr page but they are not full resolution since I don't have a pro account yet. I check for an answer for my reply and send them to you after.

If you can get this close to the glass window, you can avoid these reflections even without using a polarized filter. But the biggest problem one could face is if the window was not clean enough. In your case, the window is very clean... =)

This one is more painterly than the others as the halo effect is starting to show. But I'm not syaing it's bad. As a matter of fact I like this picture.

By the way, which HDR siftware did you use? Photomatix?
