1/100 SMOOOTHIIEEEE Arios

Posted by Vandalier

ahhhh this finally done
this kit is quite troublesome, the seamline is quite a lot and some of them in difficult area like in the bottom of the foot
but thanks to sammy (from Zero-G Forum) who give me advice to make smooth texture, now i'm capable to make something reallly reeallly smooth

not as good as him or keita, but i will learn more in next project :p

actually this project is my project with my friend but because he so SLOWWW i'm finish earlier (he not even start yet)
well anyway
i'm only do some minor detailing in this kit like filling the empty area and add some panel line
and also this is the first time i'm using samuel decal and mark softener
it's working very very well
my decal now is become one with the surface

yayyy

enough with the chit chat
enjoy, and critique are always welcome (to be honest i don't like critique, but as a modeler we need that right?)

I'm pretty amazed of this :D I think the paint job is almost on par with Keita's.. Um so how was that really really smooth surface achieved?

And those are custom decals right? You should've made a separate topic for Kyrios.. Your work on it looks as amazing as Arios'.

This is me nitpicking but.. The yellow on Arios is a bit too bright imo.

really likes your celestial being decal and GN Sub machine gun decal.
will not comment the texture because it's a wonderful job, maybe will comment about the color..

I am in the same boat with Arein except for me the orange and yellow didn't match pretty well (again.. it just my opinion, maybe there are a lot of people will like your color scheme). Actually I like the orange, but It seems that the yellow is like a lemon yellow for me (which has a green element in it)

    Asking you..

Could you please teach us how to make the surfaces that smooth?

And could you please say if you will or will not? Having a no is better than being ignored D:

just my guess, and theories i have ever tried
      i think its...
      1st prime the kit
2nd sand any primed part of the kit with sandpaper, till it looks extremely smooth
why sand the primed part, primer actually add some sort of new skin on your kit, all kind of paints works like that
and once its sanded, unlike sanded gunpla plastic, that if look closer, is full of sandpaper scratches
the sanded primed gunpla plastic won't leave any trace of scratches, rather, its left smooth surfaces

3rd, prime the kit again, this 2nd prime act as paint attacher, the 1st prime can do that, but it could be not smooth yet
4th, paint the kit with your own color

      btw vandal, just asking
what primer did you use? tamiya spray can or mr surfacer spray can
i have a tamiya liquid primer in the bottle, for airbrush purpose, when i ask vixion, he told me, while that primer need lacquer thinner, it act like an acrylic,
and above all, when i primed my kit and left it in "rinso" water the primer peeled of themself
      just like acrylic does
when i ask other people who paint their kits, they said it must be because i haven't wash my kit with detergent, so their lubrication oil for recast haven't been cleansed, and making the primer didn't properly attach to my kits skin

and to my confusion... tamiya spray can primer, and lacquer paint, both mr hobby & tamiya spray can, didn't peeled of after i left it on "rinso" water, even if i didn't cleansed the recast oil
i'm like... what i've been spraying? i invest like 50ml of mr hobby lacquer thinner and it still didn't work properly, over that, it left rough surface too....

i'd primered with AB (mr surfacer 1200)
i don't know about that rinso though because i never try it

if you still have rough surface, maybe you're not thin it enough

    well here's the step
    - Sanding all surface with 400-600-1000-1200-1500
    - Primer it with Mr Surfacer 1200
    - apply the base color (white in my case)
    - paint the main color first layer with MIST Spray
    - paint the main color second layer with MIST Spray
    - paint the main color third layer with wet Spray
    - gloss coating
    - lining it
    - put decal
    - and final coating (flat, Gloss, or semigloss)

So clean and just utterly beautiful. I hope to one day be able to make one this nice and clean. Actually, more people should start doing it like this. Instead of those unpainted ones with giant panel lines.

    Anyhoo, love it.

This is definitely smooth. I'm doing an Arios in the future so I'm happy to see so much work put into one. I'd also like those smooth surfacing tips, I can never seem to get mine perfect.
