Upcoming Aigis figure, how does it compare?

Posted by milkycafe [www]

With the upcoming new Aigis figure coming out from Persona 3, how does it compare in terms of the past figurines of her?

I've always loved the Persona series and one of my most regrettable moments of my figurine collecting experience is to have missed out on her Alter figure which would cost a fortune to get nowadays.

Luckily, a lot of people seem to like the character as well and she has taken forms in many figurines since but alas, none seem to be up to par with Alter's.

The main event with this upcoming figurine that is coming is this September is that it also a posing figurine. Meaning, it is much like a Figma.

Here are also some stats:
Chogokin Aigis
By Bandai
Release Date: September 2011
Regular Price: 5,000 yen
Includes: Face Parts x 4, Hand Parts x 3, Rocket Punch, Machine Guns, Cannon, Riffle, Base

Let's take a look at some of the production pictures. (From Hobby Search)

After seeing all the pictures, I can safely say that the only picture that settles right with me is the first one. I enjoy Aigis's face when she has a very calm and serene look on her, something that lacks in the Figma version.

One of the most defining factors for this new figurine is the body that seems to be better sculpted and painted than that Figma version. They used more curves and darker and saturated colors that makes her body seem more robotic rather than figma's human skin-like paint job.

With that said though, her face selection is still very weak and the mad one makes it even worse. I also feel like they need to scrap that one and create a new one completely.

Another problem that I've noticed is that none of these prototype pictures have no stand for her. I have no idea what Bandai is going to do for that since all these pictures of her are floating... it's cool for prototype but it makes me wonder.

Bandai has never really been one for quality in their figurines in my opinion. They always seem to have magnificent prototype pictures and then bomb at the actual product. An excellent example would be the Sheryl Nome Emotion Style figure.

Here are also some stats for the Figma version:

figma Aegis
By Max Factory
Release Date: October 2009
Regular Price: 2,667 yen
Includes: Face Parts x 3, Hand Parts x 3, Rocket Punch, Machine Guns, Base

My favorite part about this figma is her face selections, especially the one that smiles which outs a tear into my eyes. But I still feel her texture/skin is too smooth and seem too human to be a robot.

While there are flaws on this one, I feel that the Bandai version doesn't compare to be double the price of this one, no matter how big (We don't even know yet ~170mm tall) it is.

Now I want to know your opinion on the new Chogokin Aigis figurine. What's your take on it and will you pre-order this?

I didn't know there is going to be another P3 figure. Shame on me. While I enjoy seeing new figures of this series around I'm starting to get fed up by all the Aegises. Can't we just get some other characters, please?

The figure looks pretty good on the first two pictures. I like the golden shine. Though it also looks kinda cheap? I always imagined it to be more 'old' metal-y instead of shiny new parts. But what bothers me the most are her other faces. ...uh, no. No, thanks. I already own the figma one and she's worth her money, Bandai's is just too much.

This Aigis is really no big deal in my opinion so it's no shame to not have known.

Honestly, if there's a female protagonist figurine that would come out, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. She is just so cute!

Or another male protag and not only the little one which is so hard to get now. I wouldn't mind a Thanatos one either.

I've seen a few kits with Thanatos before that lookks pretty epic but I doubt anyone would pick them up...

Yeah, I wanted to get that kit by Dimension Driver. I even contacted a proxy for it, but with all the fees it was just too much for me to handle.

Bandai's Chogokin line are mostly robots from super robot anime. they are made of both metal and plastic.

It sure does. I wonder if it would have been difficult to make the metal parts "brushed"?

I'd rather get the Figma version.
It's cheaper, and it looks like she comes with more faces and accessories.

Unfortunately for those that missed the release of the Figma version in 2009, there's a high chance of getting a bootleg one now. Though I believe Kidnemo still has a couple in stock.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for in the figure. There's gonna be a little more to a Chogokin in terms of the materials used to produce it. Expect metal parts and an overall heavier figure, which can definitely be a good thing, don't get me wrong.

I just tend towards to figma, myself. I think she's a lot more anatomically desirable and has a better looking face, which means a lot to me personally when it comes to female figures.

When i saw her released for pre-order, I was also thinking the same thing as u do. It looks very similar to figma Aigis. Just like the figma Kos-mos, and the Kos-mos Action Figure made by Alter. They both look very similar to each other. It is hard to see the difference from the pics. Must to see the real thing to find out the difference.

Perhaps I'm just bias when I say I'd rather trust Figma for their poseable figures since they have a lot of experience in it and their quality has always been good. Bandai also made one for Kos-Mos that's a tad smaller and about half the price of the Figma version but the quality is way poor.

Ya~the quality of Bandai Kos-Mos is real poor. Maybe I will just keep the figma cheaper :)

Whil I will probably end up getting this (as my brother has the figma Aigis, don't want 2 of the same figures lol), the face is really the only part somewhat bothering me. It....kinda DOESN'T look like her sometimes, lol.

I'd get her only knowing Metis would be made. Personally the figma Metis has a skirt defect and it never matched up. That made me so angry. Plus her visor was always bent and staff. (I had 5).
