Almost there!

Posted by Nehellenia [www]

I really like Sakura from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and I decided that I will make a custom DD Sakura.
I made a pair of eyes for her, though I will work on them again cause I am not totally pleased, I bought a wig to style it to look like Sakura's hair (I am still waiting for it to arrive :P) and I commissioned her outfit to the very talented Penstemongrower from den of angels.
Her clothes arrived yesterday and I am totally in love with them. Now only the wig remains and the outfit will be compete.

I will buy a head when I manage to save some money to give it a faceup that will look more like Sakura cause Yukino is not such a good match

    I don't know how confident you are...but I think you should try and find a way of removing her lips or something so you could paint a smile on her! Sakura's always smiling!
    If you decide to get a new head, I think you should get head number 4 because it's so bright and expressive!

      Thanks for the advice. I was also considering DDH-04 but when I got one i realized that those chubby chicks makes it look too much like a kid I want a little bit more mature face for her. I might go after Yoko's head

    Definitely a Yui Hirasawa or a Yoko Littner (with a little modifications in the face-up) head! Very cute outfit by the way. :D

        Oh, indeed Nanoha may fit with a good face up... but I still think Yui's smile is more loyal and accurate to Sakura's natural beauty. :D

    If you don't want to fork out for a limited head for your bait, and have the confidence, you might want to consider modding one of the standard heads. I think if you used some epoxy putty (Like Miliput, Apoxie Sculpt, or Amazing Sculpt), you would be able to alter the eye shape on the head you already have, paint the sculpted parts to match, and then use some clever painting to make her mouth more smiley.

      Thanks for the advices. I am quite familiar with modding cause I build garage kits but I was afraid to use a resin putty on vinyl :S Is it ok to use it? Will it stay?
      It would be a real shame to remove Yukino's faceup since it's an original volks image character but I might sell it to buy a clean DDH-03 which is Yukino's base head.

        Yup, it sticks. I haven't done it myself, but I've seen the work of multiple others who mod DD heads. You'll probably have to sand it like crazy to get the texture to match, and color matching might get tricky, but it is DEFINITELY possible.

        Well, I know in the resin portion of the BJD hobby, people have few qualms about removing default faceups unless the faceup itself is limited in some way, so that's part of why I suggested that. But if that's the way you want to go, go for it! That way you can also consider modding the 02 or 01 heads too, and decide which you think will take the least work. I usually see eyes modded, but modding mouths isn't unheard of.

            Awesome! Looking forward to seeing the results. A worklog would be appreciated!

            Oh, you're quite welcome. Actually, I wish I could be more help--unfortunately, most of the current worklogs and such of heavily modded DD heads are in Japanese, and sometimes in weird fonts that come out as gibberish on some computers, so most of what I know is from deduction and inference. I would like to take a whack at modding a head myself someday, though that won't happen for quite a while. ^^;
