Mid-Autumn Festival (figma) Lantern!

Posted by nutcase23 [www]

Coming up this week on the 3rd of October is the Mid-Autumn Festival!

Here's a little info from good old wiki :3

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, or in Chinese, Zhongqiu Jie (traditional Chinese: 中秋節), is a popular harvest festival celebrated by Chinese people, Koreans, and Vietnamese people (even though they celebrate it differently), dating back over 3,000 years to moon worship in China's Shang Dynasty.[1][2] It was first called Zhongqiu Jie (literally "Mid-Autumn Festival") in the Zhou Dynasty.[3] In Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines, it is also sometimes referred to as the Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is usually around late September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. It is a date that parallels the autumn and spring Equinoxes of the solar calendar, when the moon is supposedly at its fullest and roundest. The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the two most important holidays in the Chinese calendar, the other being the Chinese New Year, and is a legal holiday in several countries. Farmers celebrate the end of the summer harvesting season on this date. Traditionally, on this day, Chinese family members and friends will gather to admire the bright mid-autumn harvest moon, and eat moon cakes and pomelos together.

So how will you be celebrating it? :3

You might have already seen it on my blog post about the pre-Mid-Autumn Festival (Mooncake Festival) meet-up with local figurine bloggers, but I made some lanterns just for the festival ^^.

I've set up a guide on how to make them at my blog but I won't post it here.

Instead, I'll post a few pictures of the lantern in action. :3

How does it glow?

You'll just have to find out XDD

Already had a few Mooncakes XP

Oh, I used to play with lanterns when I was a kid (for the fest of course). Back in the days, we relied on using candles for the lantern. Heavy wind would kill the flame :'D Nowadays, its all electric I believe, safety reasons, kids aren't suppose to play with fire in the lantern lol

Probably would try and make a lantern for me Figma's, but, I'm just too lazy to celebrate with a figma lol
