Gundam Anime I wanna see!!!
Since becoming more enthusiastic bout gunpla, and Gundam etc, though not actually Gundam, the series but not the mecha. I like other ones. Mainly the ones from the Principality of Zeon. Which I why I wanna see series that feature(heavily) Zeon! Cos they rock. And Gundam are just... overrated lol. I found some epicly epic pics of a Zaku and Gouf beating down some gundam, the pics came from here, found via google images lol.
The series I wanna watch are as follows, in no specific order;
Mobile Suit Gundam
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam/A New Translation
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory/The Afterglow of Zeon
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team/Miller's Report
The 08ths MS Team looks awesome. Thats where the epic screens come from. And you have to agree, they look epic, right? Right?? lol I think thats the one I'd like to start with. And, if possible, a dubbed version. Dunno why exactly.... but I remember seeing Wing dubbed, and all those anime from my childhood that I didnt realise were anime till later, I prefer the dubs, can't do the subbed versions. I'll take what I can get, but I saw a vid on youtube of a Gouf, and it was dubbed, but I dunno what series it was...... Said video is below.
(I now realise that its from the 08th series lol. Saw this vid before looking at Gundam titles hehehe.)

Epicness.

More epic, but not as epic. Tis from the original series I'm guessing.

Same again, original series? No?

Reading this makes me remember when I first discovered Transformers (that was many many moons ago). I thought it was interesting that it was robots and they could become animals as well... one thing and still two different ones (I wasn't that old at that time). Later I saw transformers on TV and went like "why are they shooting at each other. Mine are always good friends" and I never really understood the story on TV.
I have the impression that Gundam is kind of similar meaning it's all about beating the other team in combat. What is it that makes such a theme interesting? I never really understood it as anime/movie. I did understand it as computergames though ^^
One of the games is the really the reason I love Gelgoog and Zeon so much lol. Federation VS Zeon on PS2.
I like Beastwars, liked it better than normal Transformers, but I think I saw Beastwars before normal Transformers lol.
All about beating the other team in combat? In a sense but not entirely and not as simple as that.. The Universal Century timeline is on a whole different level than the Alternate timelines. (G, Wing, X, Turn A, Seed/Seed Destiny, 00).
The core of the shows is "What war is all about".. From the experiences of children to civilian crew of cargo ships, grunt soldiers and the politics of it.
I'd say try and grab the entire series of zeta gundam and forget about new translation. It looses something with it's upbeat, happy feeling and it messes up continuity with other shows. In fact, skip over all the movie versions of the above except for the movie trilogy for first gundam!!
War in the pocket is pretty good, but it's a character anime with very little mobile suit action. Having said that, the Kaempfer is one of the few zeon suits I really do love!
0083 is very gundam-centric
8th MS team has a ridiculously kickass Gouf and pilot so that's in!
Kampfer looks epic. Everytime I hear Kampfer I think of the tree, the new anime, and now a Mobile Suit lol.
Doesn't seem to be much of Zeon in Zeta though... main reason I wanna watch is to see my favourites in action lol.
I agree with this guy, ditch the 'a new translation'.. It messes the continuity up XD
See... I dont know what this 'new translation' is!! Is is the newer series like Seed n 00?
It's kind of a compilation movie (3 of 'em) for the whole Zeta show, they've edited a bunch of things and made it a tad bit happier than the series (which messes it the story up).. XD
Though you'd be seeing a lot of parts rendered in 21st century CG.. Good eyecandy stuff :D
Oh I wouldn't be bothering with an compilation movies till I'd actually seen the series itself lol. Wheres the fun in that?
But I did watch the original show (0079) as compilation movies, my eyes were kind of complaining XD
Though I'll be watching the series since I feel lost at times cause a 50 episode show is compressed into 3 movies XD
The first movie trilogy is arguably better than the series because it removed the throwaway eps (White base is running out of salt!! Oh noes!!!), expanded the ending and all without changing the tone or feel of the show!!
It's a damn sight easier to sit through too!
I know.. But I still feel I'm missing some little details out XD
its a remake of Z Gundam with new scenes and a new ending which practically destroy the U.C. continuity
its better to start with mobile suit gundam because if you don't know the background story, you will get confused with the story. 08th ms team is one on my favorite gundam series because if focuses more on the character development than the gundam and the battle are much more realist than any gundam series ever released.
Great picks. The universal century will always be my favorite Gundam Universe, but if ever you do finish those series, i recommend Turn A gundam as well.
i agree with that Turn A feels like the end of all gundam saga which was called the "black history"
definitely Turn A. Swallow the pride of the unit design, and just watch it for the story -it's great
I did love 08th MS Team. But the problem is that after the first director died (I believe it was due to a car accident), the second one took over. That caused the series to have that "rush to the ending" feeling, and caused me to feel like they could have done so much more with the ending.
That, and I was unable to recommend Miller's Report as a movie. I found myself buying it on DVD only to find that the bonus bit was better. But I have to give it credit for being a proper recap more than anything else.
But overall, I do recommend it as much as 0080. And if you want the proper Gundam experience with the UC timeline, I do recommend watching it in chronological order. X3 That, and see it twice if you think you did sport any contradictions to the later stuff. :3
Oooh very nice choices.. How bout adding 'Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack', I think you don't want to miss out Sazabi ;3
Ehhhhhh Cos it has 'Char's' in the title, I was damn tempted, but theres hardly any of the Suit I like it in. Just Sazabi really.
Char's counterattack is a must watch because it is the end of Amuro and Char storyline that spans from Mobile Suit Gundam to Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.
CCA is choppy.... It could have been better expanded with a 5 episode OVA.
agreed^^ CCA lacks mobile suit action and kinda has a weak plot. if it was made in the same way that 0083 was made, it would have been an ultimate classic.
I've seen all the Gundam Series and movies now :). I'm an avid Gundam fan. I also love mecha too. I can't wait for Gundam 00 movie to come out. My favourite series was Gundam Wing, Gundam 00, Gundam SEED and Original Gundam. I'm also waiting for Gundam Unicorn anime
I recommend Turn A and 08th of all the bunch...
Besides W TV, I've seen all the Gundam Multiverse...
First is NOT worth it IMO, unless you enjoy a SR themed mecha show. I did not like it -although the story itself is good. Not epic though
08th team is nice story wise and action wise, but in terms of continuity issues, it starts to cringe, since it doesn't follow First's idea that no mobile suits before Odessa (which means First needs a MAJOR overhaul)
0080 is a great tragedy.
Watch 0083 the series, and NEVER the movie. The movie cuts too much out, and does not make sense.
For Zeta, my advice is watch New Translation, and if you like it, go and watch the series, b/c I swear, Zeta is possibly the most EPIC Gundam anime ever. It IS the best Gundam ever, and to add, it's the best sequel ever (even though the series can stand on it's own).
Are you saying that the zeta "I run on dead people" invincibility psychodrama doesn't fall into the realm of super robot?
And u found V gundam to be more epic (and gruesome) than zeta but lacked the save cohesiveness in the plot, like the series changed direction so many times but kept going to the same goal.
Yea, and it also happens to be that the "I run on Dead people" Wave Rider Crash is something that happened ONCE (maybe twice, if you count the enlarged beam saber) in the entire series of 50 episodes. There was no G-Fighter BS and it's other configuration parts (and by the way, G-Defenser is not a G-Fighter), no Core-Fighter Combinations of trying to be like Getter, no Guntank operating in space (I was seriously no happy with that, and thought the Guncannon to Hayato would have been better, like in the movie), and no three units and a battleship completely shifting the entire war (not to mention, more deaths on the allied side).
I never watched V, but am planning to. I don't understand how Zeta changed directions (or V),since the entire series is about rebelling against some big organization.
Oh yea, to add, I haven't finished watching Zeta, but am in the process of watching it. Since I only seen parts of the series, and the entire New Translation, seeing the series made it look extremely better than the crap movie (regardless of the several new images added to it). Add on top, that I watched the Mobile Suit Gundam like some days before, and I HATED IT, made me believe that Zeta is still better. And to compare with other series I have seen (First, 0080, 0083, CCA, F91, X, Turn A, Wing EW, SEED, Destiny, Stargazer, 00) and know about (ZZ, V, Wing, G), i will say that Zeta still kicks ass.
Essentially, my picks for an animated gundam series are:
-Zeta (as of right now)
-Turn A (story)
-X (story, and unfortunate that it had to end quickly)
-Stargazer (beautiful mini side story of SEED. Seriously, the one thing I appreciate from SEED are the nice sidestory like Astray, X Astray and Stargazer. It's a shame that they are making weirder side stories...)
-0080 (need to cry, go watch this)
0080, 0083, and 08ms are really good, you have to watch!
please stay away form ZZ.. in took the path of "gundam parody " which failed epically. kinda lost some brain cells going through the first twenty-something episodes before the story actually started.
i agree. episode one has that ridiculous Q&A portion that getis in my nuts
Turn A has the moustache gundam!
stardust memory + 08th MS team is really nice. ZZ was....meh. trust me, it will irritate you to see juvenile delinquents pilot mobile suits.
Turn A was good near the end, where turn-x showed up. X has a really good plot. Wing is okay but really tiring to watch..i'd prefer 00 over wing actually.
if your interested in brutal super robot action watch the getter robo ova's (especially armageddon) along with mazinkaiser :)
^^ the reason WHY 08th MS team is a must watch. gundam=zaku
