Double H: Episode 4

Hey everyone, I present the 4th episode of Double H, a figure talk show of sorts where my good friend Ashlotte and I talk about recent pre-orders! This week we have Max Factory's Miku append ver. and FREEing's Makoto Nanaya on the chopping block. There is a whole lot griping on the agenda, but don't worry -- it's all in good humour!

Here's a little bit of background on us and the show if you're curious:

I started Hobby Hovel back in October 2009 as a figure/plamo review blog, a few months later, by some strange twist of fate, I managed to pull Ashlotte (who was little more than a stranger to me at that point) on board. On May of 2010, Ashlotte suggested on writing a weekly series of rants together in which we talk about recent pre-orders. It was a lot of fun for both of us, though it was also a lot of editing work for me, as Ashlotte's grammar has much to be desired =P.

In an effort to get around the need to sift through a mountain of grammar mistakes every other week, I decided to give audio recordings a try, and to my surprise, both of us really enjoyit! We had a bit of a tough time figuring out the format of the show and getting over my initial bouts of uneasiness on the microphone, the latter of which made for pretty silly outtakes (warning: cuss words ahead):

So here we are after 3 episodes (and a REALLY awful "pilot" episode), and I think we're at a comfortable place to put the show out there to share with the figure-collecting community. I hope you have as much fun listening as we did recording!

I like miku hatsune append figure. She's really pretty...considering the american art too.

She is indeed better-looking than the American art, though that isn't exactly saying much!

For the record, I think the append Miku looks like a great figure from a technical standpoint. I really like the glossy finish on her outfit, but the direction of the conversation kind of veered away from that and towards the personality of the figure. In hindsight, I think it's important to take a couple of steps back and admire the aesthetics of the figure -- I may not be crazy about the face and feet, but I'd be a dirty liar if I said I didn't like that body sculpt.

I really liked this talk. I think I'm going to subscribe to your youtube channel. I hope that you make more. It's always cool to have people with actual opinions as opposed to others who just go "OMG THIS IS THEBEST FIGURE EVER!". Constructive criticism is always awesome and I would totally love to have conversations like these about figures. :D

Hehe, thanks! There will definitely be more in the future. To be honest, I was a little that this episode may have made us seem like overly negative people, so I'm relieved to hear that you've enjoyed it. With that said, being critical is definitely a lot more fun than fanboy gushing, but I can't promise that we won't ever lapse into fanboy mode either -- Ash was pretty giddy over the GSC Mayoi last week, for instance!
