    I guess I'll be the first ~

    1. I got my first figure in 2009 (October I believe), but never got serious until January 2010. I started collecting figures because I wanted to have my favourite characters from my favourite anime shows or games next to me at all times. It seems like it took a tangent lately and I'm buying figures for art reasons (photography mostly).

    2. Well, first they need to realise that, if they don't watch anime or play any games, that there's something out there waiting for them. Not all shows are Naruto and Sailor Moon. As well, people need to realise that most figures (unless they are DDs) are not dolls, but statues and action figures. I always tell my friends that they wouldn't make a doll out of PVC.

    3. My favourite figurine maker is definitely Good Smile Company, with Alter coming in a close second. Most of my figures are made by GSC, while some of the others are made y random companies. What I like about they're figures is the accuracy and the detail they put into the figures. ^^ The Nendoroid brand is also my favourite brand made by GSC. ^^

    4. Before, it use to the actual character (I wouldn't buy a character's figure unless I watched they show/ played their game). But lately, it seems like I'm buying figures based on the character design. Just yesterday I ordered Nendoroid Totori from Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland 2, yet I've never played the game before.

    5. Lucas Morneau, 17, Newfoundland Canada.

    Hope that helped ^^

      Also forgot for #4:

I also love Griffon's Touhou collection. I really need to buy some of them, but I can never decide on what one to buy.

    Looks like fun!

    1. 2010 is when I got my first real figure so I started collecting about a year ago (2010 June). Reason? Well hard to explain when you just got drawn to the fine details of your favorite characters in 3D format where you could admire it from every angle.

    2. That they should seriously consider giving it a chance. There's a lot of people who I managed to convince how good anime/manga/otaku culture is. And when it comes to figures, it's a hobby and like pridoxal said, most people need to realize that figures are not dolls or anything in that direction. Although whenever they do see my collection they think it's pretty cool.

    3. My fave maker is Alter and Good Smile Company. They make so detailed and well done figures well worth its price. I just collect scale figures and they do make the best scale figures of my favorite characters/series.

    4. The charm and details and often more on how much I like the character itself that changes my priority, if i liked the series more than the other or like that character more than the other. And like I said, details and color is a must.

    1. About 2009, if I remember correctly... My friend brought me on a hunting trip for IdolM@ster Figmas and to complete a little insider's joke amongst us, I brought the Futami twins. Having figures promted me to start keeping an eye out for other releases.

    2. Can't say anything... I suppose from an outside point of view a 20-ish man holding a small doll or two might be shocking. They'll probably be thinking all sorts of things even if they all turn out to be untrue. XD

    3. Haven't bought that many to have a favourite manufacturer.

    4. I suppose having knowledge of the relevant series and/or being a fan might help in swaying the opinion of one's purchases. Cost is a third factor as well.

1: I started collecting figures in July 2010. I like to have the characters that I love from my anime shows on my shelves. I switched to collecting Nendoroids mostly because you can have a lot of fun with them when you're creative and in possession of a Camera.

2: If you don't like it that's fine, just don't be a d*ck about it. And for people that are interested in collecting or are just curious about it, go online and look around on what it's all about.

3: Good Smile Company. most figures that I have are Figma and Nendoroid which are all being made by Good Smile Company =) Got 4 scale figures that I can't remember the maker of.

4: That depends on how they look. Most figures I got so far are from series that I watch and love, but there are a few on my wishlist that are on there purely based on how cute they look.

    1. Just started this year, about a month ago. I love to collects nendoroids because it is cheaper and cute! I have a lot of reasons why I bought them, and some of them because ; I love the character, the character design is cool/cute/awesome, has a lot of accessories .

    2. If they don't like it.., it's up to them ! Everyone has personal interest, but just don't insult what we otaku like/love. Just respect to others' interest. Oh please, otaku or non-otaku is same. It never written in any books if you are an otaku you can't success. So, what really bad about it?

    3. Good Smile Company for sure because of it's high quality nendoroids and scale figures! (although I never bought PVC figures scale.)

4.My nendoroid needs a lot of ''FRIENDS''.

    5. Aika Amaya, 13, Malaysia.

I hope this will helps you ! :)

    1. I been collecting figures for about 4 years, maybe 5? It didn't get serious until about 2 and a half years ago.

2 I have this issue come up a lot since 99% of my friends have no idea about this stuff and then loose there mind when they come to my apartment. I normally just explain the details and craftmanship in them. The fact that many are first sculpted by hand, that someone painstakingly cut out each line and detail to make the cast is remarkable. For me its a little piece of art I get to display. My shelfs are a gallery
3 Alter. My favorite figure are my Lelouch Megahouse, and a handful of my Yukis, I cant pick when it comes to her.
    4. There are some characters or shows I really like to collect, but in the end its all about how it looks. If it has what I call "Derp-Face" or just doesn't look right even if its someone I really like Ill pass on it.

    1. I started collecting around 2007. I guess I started to buy figures because I had been checking Good Smile Company's website out for a while, and in the end I just couldn't help myself ^^;;

    2. Can't really say I care if they don't like it. I have my hobbies and they have theirs, and I respect that so they should respect me too.

    3. Alter I think ^^ With Max Factory in second place.

    4. The price means alot. If I can't afford it, I really don't see a reason to buy it no matter how pretty it is. But if I can afford it, I always look at the face and the pose.

    5. Stine, 16, Denmark.

    1. Got my first figure around December 2009 I think? But even thought I had a lot of interest I couldn't afford buying any more. Properly started collecting October 2010. why? hmm... i admired figures for ages~ its an expression of art as any other. being able to have my own collection was always my dream, and once i was able to, there is no going back...

2 I mostly want people to realize that they are not toys, and u can collect figures no matter what age u are. As i mentioned it's an form of art... Also it's not ridiculous to spend so much money on them. People spend a lot on paintings and such? it's the same... My collection is worth every penny i spent~

3 i guess that would be GSC or Alter, Alter has beautiful scale figures, but then GSC makes such a wide variety of great figures~ both have absolutely amazing quality and work detail

    4. I usually buy figure's for the character presented, i like to get figures from my favourite series. but often i will also want them just for the design. Basicly if i see it and love it, must get~ xD

    1. I started in 2009, I felt that this would be a good way to support the series and to have a sort of memento.
    2. I guess Id tell them to give it a chance, But everyone has their own opinion.
3.Mine would be GoodSmileCompany, They really care about their fans and their products never disappoint .
4.Usually if Ive seen the series and I like the character, Ill buy it lol ^^ But on very rare occasions Ill buy a figure for its looks >_<''

    Heres mine.

    1. I started collecting in Summer of 2008 and began getting serious with proper collecting in the spring of 2009. I started collecting figures because i was really into models at the time such as gundams due to my older brothers influence. But i then realized that i couldn't build gundams due to my unsteady hands. So i started buying Figures, Statues and the general Anime goodies!

    2. They should just go into it with an open mind. If they watch anime and play games, its a little easier to get into collecting. If they don't then i would encourage them to jump in and have a watch, read or play. Also, If they are only starting to collect, I would say, collect slowly. I was not earning money when i began collecting and i found that i was saving really hard for figures and statues and I felt a sense of accomplishment when i bought them!

    3. My favorite company would have to be Good Smile Company as they work on a range of different products such as the Nendoroids and Figmas which i love. They make all their figures into pieces of art and all have their own special bits and pieces to them which are all made with great detail and precision.

    4. What draws me to one figure over another? Hmmmmm. Its probably gotta be the fact that I have either watched the Series that the figure was in OR is too damn cute to resist! XD

    5. Joshua Ng, 18, Hertfordshire UK

    Hope I helped! XD

1.I started collecting anime figures in the year 2003. Back then I was buying gashapons of Phantasy Star Online characters. I loved Phantasy Star Online back in the day and I thought it would be awesome having it. From there it slowly progressed into pvc statues over time. Even though I have been collecting figures since 2003, my collection is quite small compared to most collectors.

2.My words to others who have no knowledge or have a bad opinion on figures? Anime figures are another form of art just like books or movies. There’s something for almost everyone young and old to look at and thankfully have as a personal item. When you buy a figure, you are supporting what you like whether it’s the style, creator of the character or, the company who supported the production of the figure. Similar to when you buy a book or a movie of your favourite genre or author.

3.My favourite figure maker is Good Smile Company however; I love Alter and their pvc statues. Sadly I don’t have any of Alter’s statues. If I had the chance, I would buy Alter’s statue of Signum from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A’s.

Regarding my favourite figures, my favourite figure is Mon-sieur Bome Collection Vol. 18, Takaya Noriko from Gunbuster and the nendoroid Petit version of Arf from Nanoha The Movie 1st followed by the figma figures of Fate T. Harlaown and Subaru from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS.

4.For me, if I love the character enough and the figure quality matches the price I am paying for. I will buy it.

    1. I started last year (2010), I'd always wanted to get some figures but I hadn't got a credit card, and all I could get in my city were cheap copies of the originals. Then I started working, got a Visa and voila! Figma Rin appeared :)

    2. It is their loss. If they are not into it, there is no way to force them. But they shouldn't consider it as a bad hobby, as long as you don't spend your whole salary on it, I guess it's just another free time activity, as good as any other could be.

    3. Mhm, I have to say Volks and Alter are the two I prefer the most. EVEN THOUGH THEY TEND TO GET PRICEY SOMETIMES. I also like Figmas, they are excellent for their price.

    4. Mhm, I pay attention to both how much I like the character, how detailed the figure is, and if it has accessories or not. I tend to think about it a lot, because my goal is not have an extensive collection and then have to sell some of them, I just get those figures I REALLY want.

    1) I found a website of a Pokémon collector, and I was hooked, I still collect pokemon, but I moved onto anime mainly, which I moved onto around 2 years ago, and got serious about a year 1/2 ago! I dunno why, I just enjoy it!
2)Go watch anime, it's amazing, and figure collecting isn't weird, perverted or creepy, it's just a hobby.
3)Good smile company or Max Factory! I love figmas!
4)THE CHARACTER. Yeah character 9 times out of 10, but sculpt, price, availability, other things like that.
    5) David Thomas, 15 (16 in a week, so maybe I'll be 16 by the time this is used xD) England.

    1) Around May 2008, right after my first trip to Japan. At first it was because I wanted to have some characters I liked in another fashion than manga, anime or games. Then I stumbled upon kodomut blog and figure.fm, as for now I'm mostly collecting for art reason (mostly photography and sculpture).

    2) What I'll say : "Just come and try to discover before criticizing". Some coworkers, at first, were like : "You are collecting figures, you're a weirdo!" and then they started taking a closer look and now they are waiting for my next batch of figure...

    3) This is a really hard question. I think I'll say Alter first (even if the quality of their work isn't always on top) on a draw with Good Smile Company (the quality of their work is stable).

    4) At first it was the character. Now it's the whole of the figure : I really like dynamic figures, or figure with strange bases. You could say I buy figure where I can't see how she is holding together.

    5) Jean-Philippe Jacoupy, 28, Paris France.

    1. 2006 after realizing their existence (-_-). I'm already an anime, model kit, and gunpla fan by then so it just came naturally that I wanted anime figures too.
2 Probably just laugh my way out, not like anything they say will change my way though, but I also won't try to influence them ... unless they already show interest in the first place :)
3 Generally, or at least initially, I don't care much about who is the maker. I care more about the figure itself. However, I once counted that apparently Alter dominates my collection, although the more recent ones tend to be Goodsmile, thanks to their array of Hatsune Miku. I'd probably avoid cold cast figures, especially Griffon's since I've been disappointed by them twice. But anyway, If you're talking about a single character that dominates my collection, that would easily be Hatsune Miku XD.
    4. I suppose the character, character design (if I don't even know the character), the overall design of that particular figure, build quality especially the face. I also tend to appreciate the details. However, when it comes to Miku, I tend to just blindly buy it :P ...

    I'll try too!

1.I start collecting at the end of 2010, I collected because I watched culture japan on animax and I looked at the goodies on dannychoo.com

    2. Dude, you should try to watch an anime, you maybe will get addicted after that! And one more thing, figures (except DDs) are not dolls! And collecting figures is not a childish hobby!

    3. GSC, Max Factory and Alter

    4. Well, new animes keep showing up, and the figure follows, the quality becomes better and better, I guess I can't help it ^^;

    5. Anyta P, 13, Indonesia

    Hope this helps ouo
