Double H: Episode 5

Yippie, it's that time of the week again! Chag takes his frustration on fictional characters and Ashlotte is forced to play along. If there are any Touma fans out there, be sure to leave a comment so Chag knows that you are real people as opposed to creatures of myth! There's not much actual talk about the figures themselves, though -- check out the second half for that kind of fun stuff.
  • 0:20 - Figma Aragaki Ayase
  • 5:06 - Figma Kamijou Touma

The second half is all about those WonFes exclusives that you're probably never going to get! Here we talk about what makes for a good exclusive and what makes for testicular violence.
  • 0:40 - Figma Roger Smith
  • 2:48 - Figma Aegis (Heavy ver.)
  • 4:04 - Nendoroid Kaname Madoka
  • 5:55 - 1/1 Kyubey

Did of the exclusives catch your fancy? What do you think about the hellspawns--I mean, Ayase & Touma? Let us know in the comments!

I have to agree, Ayase is pretty lame. I'm still waiting on Manami...

I think that the Nendoroid Madoka was cute, but the 1/1 Kyubey is weird. Who would buy it?

Hey, just take a look around figure.fm! If people are willing to shell out over a thousand bucks on Dollfies, I'm sure there are people crazy--I mean, dedicated enough to fork out the cash for QB =)

        You have a point.

Interested in any of the six items?

I'm liking Rambo Aegis a lot for the new accessories. Although I'll always think of the normal Aegis as her definitive look, I can't deny the charm in the vest and visor. I have a feeling that she'll go for a high price in the aftermarket, since she is a fan favourite, yet she is different enough from the original version to not feel like a rehash. I don't spend too much money on my collection, so I'll have to wait and see, but if by some miracle I find her at a bargain price, I'd certainly be all over that.

As for Touma, no comment. I still have to watch Index.

Really dislike Ayase almost as much as Kirino. Kuroneko rules!

How Touma gets a figure before Accelarator is beyond me.

Haha, I was meaning to bring that up in the show, but I think my hateful rant got the better of me. Accelerator has a cool power and a personality, neither of which Touma seems to possess. Here's hoping for an Accelerator/loli Misaka combo in the future!

It's good to see you branching out. I used to follow your blog. The state of your hobby looks more impressive every time I check it out.

The two of you have great chemistry in your casts.

      Thanks Figmanogatari! Branching out is definitely fun and did wonders in mixing things up to keep the blogging routine from becoming stale in after a year and a half. I owe it a lot to ash for putting up with my underwhelming oral skills, though I AM getting a little better -- at least I no longer need 7 takes to pop out the introduction! ^^;

As for how MF decides what should be exclusives, my inclination is to think that it has more to do with privileging Japanese fans of their products as a kind of special thank you for going to their shows and buying their products and services. The domestic collector also has the privilege of buying mulitple items and selling these to foreigners at ungenerous prices. The few Figmas among their exclusives are desirable enough to warrant serious consideration for collectors, but not enough for foreigners to own them, unless they are willing to pay the price.

I meant multiples of any single item...

Hmmm, the thing about the exclusive Figma Roger is that The Big O was more popular overseas than it was in Japan. Event exclusives will always exist and I've accepted that fact a long time ago, but this particular decision still puzzles me. Why shut out the bulk of their overseas market for product that may hold significant overseas interest? I wonder how much middleman services factor into marketing decision-making, hmmm...

I agree that Figma Roger's exclusivity is a peculiar decision. It is unfortunate for me because I was much more interested in the Roger than the Dorothy. When I saw the Figma Roger, I thought it looked suave yet badass. If Roger had not been an exclusive, I would have bought him along with the Golgo 13 Figma. My now decent-sized Figma collection consists mostly of school girls... XD

Now that GSC is now selling WF goods overseas, the most likely explanation for why exclusives have been expensive was simply because the company is young and lacked experience in selling overseas. They probably have been researching and developing and looking for partners to provide this service in the past and have only now come up with a satisfactory process to do this.

        :)

I just heard about that! Now the deal breaker is going to be be the shipping fees. If GSC decides to go for the flat 2000 yen shipping like the charity Nendos, Roger and Rambo Aegis are going to be 5000 yen including shipping. By comparison, those two are going for 5080 yen with shipping (to North America) on Tokyo Hunter. Not a terribly big difference, but it's certainly great to see GSC officially extending its hand to oversea buyers for event exclusives!

As for Touma...I don't see why you would want to watch a show which mostly features a character who, I agree, has has no appealing traits and lacks believability. heh, says the guy who nevertheless watched the show. XD

Hah, I'm with you there buddy. I think I watched Index during exam season as a way to procrastinate, which partly explains how I was able to stomach the whole thing. I stayed FAR away from the second season and almost skipped out on Railgun as a direct result, if not for my friend's insistence for me to watch the latter. Thankfully, I did enjoy Railgun immensely. Isn't it amazing how different the two series feel despite sharing a common setting? XD

I wonder if characters like Touma are more of a fujoshi-oriented character. I just do not believe that most guys can enjoy a male protagonists like him.

The Railgun show is cute. Saten and Mikoto are adorable and Kuroko is hilarious. I think Kuroko is a stand-out character--a winning blend of devilish clown and hints of epic hero.

Totally agree that Kuroko is a star. Her personality and antics really stand out from the other characters. Kuroko and Kuroneko from Oreimo seem to outshine the main characters of their anime frequently.

I think Kuroko and Kuroneko were intended to be scene-stealers. But in the Index title, I cannot tell who is supposed to stand out. XD

I actually liked To Aru Kagaku no Railgun better than Index better. Best scene of the second series was Accelerator pounding the teleporter girl.

Scientists say, procrastination was invented to accomodate time for anime-viewing. Geez. Can't scientists say anything but the obvious?

No coincidentally, I also watched School Days during another exam season. The difference between School Days and Index was that School Days was at least entertaining, even if it was for all the wrong reasons.
