Testing Out an SLR (Nikon D200)

Posted by Actar [www]

Managed to snag a Nikon D200 and attempted to do a random photoshoot and here are my results after some photo enhancing.

While they are indeed superior (I believe) to the ones taken by my Cannon IXUS, I notice the photos are still slightly grainy. Any advise to smoothen out the picture? Is it due to the lack of light? The ISO setting? Note that I didn't use an external flash for these pics, but only the in built one.

It seems grainy photos for beginners with DSLR is common.

    Check this: http://lovelyduckie.com/?p=546
Reduce ISO, use tripod, play with shutter-speed.

ISO setting are useful when the condition of light is very low. It expand the sensor of the camera and cause it to be more light sensitive. But it's come at a price , too high ISO will cause the picture in grainy especially above ISO 400.

    Recommendation
    Open the aperture (F) wider
    Use maximum ISO of 400
    and yes , tripod

Tripod or a stack of books ^_^. Also it should be noted that you need good lighting to lower the ISO. Also I would avoid using any flash at all because flash tends to flatten the picture, unless thats the effect you are going for.

Probably due to iso or lack of light. But if you could snag an easy to use program called Noise Ninja. It's a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop. It's a nice tool to more or less get rid of the grain and all.

I so love that photography talk. :3

But on a side note, Actar, I was looking at your first photo and pictured you telling her "That was great! Now if you will take off your clothes, then we can continue getting more photos. So... What would you say about doing that, Shana?" X3
