Jesus Christ These Books Are Huge
I started getting into these giant manga magazines last month. I'm not really interested in shounen or seinen manga, so a lot of the magazines don't appeal to me. But there are still plenty of choices to fulfill my hopeless desire for moe. And I guess moe could be considered a sub genre of seinen.
They're hundreds of pages long and cost around 700-800 yen. Not bad! I remember in the states in the early 2000s, one manga book was around $15. It has since dropped down to $10 once companies realized that people weren't willing to pay that much. Speaking of buying manga, I remember in the states kids would just sit on the floor, between the bookshelves, and read manga. Have you ever done that? I was guilty of it in my younger days... Although in my defense, I did it in a more open area, not in the aisles.
There are dozens (maybe over 100) of these manga publications out there. Some even go over 1000 pages. Japan is a big consumer of books and magazines, so you always see people reading on their daily commute or any other time they're bored. Seeing everyone reading makes you want to buy books, too.
Do you have any manga magazines?

Comparison to other literary classics.

Comparison to K-On 1. K-On was pretty good, but nothing super special. The anime's success was due to KyoAni magic fairy dust.

3 books compared to a vertical IC card, the same size as a credit card. Many arcade games sell IC cards, letting you access your records and points whenever you play. Street Fighter 4 uses this pretty well, giving or taking away points based on your wins and losses. It must feel good to have a huge number of points and wreck scrubs.

The inside of Dengeki Daioh. It's over 800 pages. I only bought this issue for the Shana content, but I probably won't get next month's issue. I don't like jumping into the middle of a manga series, especially if I've already seen the anime or played the game. See any titles you like here?

I only got a few Young Ace and Shonen Jump. Though the YA's I can't read D:
They also gotta license the K-On and Umineko manga's, dammit!
well i always bring k-on vol 1 or 2 along with me if i going on a long trip but it fit into my bag so i dont think it is big~ and megami well it really is big
Yeah, I can't imagine bringing one of these on the train. It's thicker than my textbooks.
Hey the comment number reset again...
Oh wow, I'm surprised at the amount of anime titles I see there...
WOW? i doubt people bring this into the train/public transport? its like bringing a Dictionary!
It's uncommon to see people reading these big ones. On the train, people mostly read short novels about as big as your hand. Unless you have very big hands.
If I ever learn Japanese I would love to buy some Newtype ones(I loved Newtype USA).
Wow these are big indeed. MAybe I should get me some....that many pages makes it worth the shipping.
They are really big.
I wonder what that Umineko book is? Is it the whole visual novel (ep 1 in this case) rewritten as a light novel?
It's part of Episode 1 in manga form. There is a novelized version, too, but I think it's just the game text.
I bought a few of those earlier this year, couldn't believe something of that size existed.
