Maids promote Tokyo Olympics

As you may or may not have heard already, The Olympic Games will be held in Rio in 2016. This means Tokyo will not get them.
Still I got hold of the Tokyo promotional video for the Olympics (TV showed all of them and I have a TV tuner). I took this screendump as I guess it would interest you guys. Looks like somebody official in Japan decided that maids on the streets on Tokyo is a good selling point for the city. The picture was on for like a single second though, just enough for people to notice if they know it could be there. Still it's long enough if you rewind, freeze and takes a snapshot ^^
How do you guys view this? Is it a sign that cosplay and otaku issues are getting more accepted? Should we have guessed this would happen eventually or is it a complete surprise?
Sorry about the blurry image. It is as good as I get it in an SD MPEG2 video stream.

They even put Captain Tsubasa anime screenshot on the Application Information. They said about "Sports in anime" as a world-wide pop culture like anime.... that's unfair with us otakus ;(
what is strange and different soon becomes commonplace . . .
It's a shame Tokyo didn't get the 2016 Olympic Games.
Haha, I still remember the RX-78-2 statue in Odaiba is also promoted for this? Too bad they don't get chosen because they're said to be similar to Beijing's style.
don't find it surprising really, they know Japan is known for maids among other things so why not take advantage of that
Sadly , Rio De Jenaro won .
It's not really a surprise though. I looked at the odds for betting and stats on how many were betting on each city and then I started calculating.
Chicago:
85% bet
return 1,7
Winnings = 1,7*85% = 144,5%
Profit for bookmakers: -44,5%
Rio:
10% bet
return 2
Winnings = 2*20% = 20%
Profit for bookmakers: 80%
Tokyo+Madrid:
5% bet
return 25
Winnings = 5%*25 = 150%
Now my stats had those two cities merged. Let's assume it's evenly divided. That would make Winnings 75% for each.
Profit for bookmakers: 25%
Those numbers are somewhat rounded, but not way off. Now if you happen to be a corrupt bookmaker, who just happens to know how to bribe IOC, then who would you want to win? We already know the answer to that one.
Why would I say IOC accepts bribes. It's quite simple. IOC admitted Salt Lake City bribed them to win.
I tried to find some guy who claims that some Chinese mafia attempts to fix all major sports everywhere in the world. It works quite well in the west as the west officially have no problems, hence no reason not to trust judges and similar for accepting bribes. I didn't find the article, but I did find something else while searching:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2002/aug/03/olympicgames.winterolympics2002
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-559282/We-fixed-Olympic-medals-says-China.html
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/836359/was_the_mafia_connected_to_the_eight.html
Naturally I have no evidence or clue to who could actually have bribed in this case. I just started wondering when I noticed those numbers and personally I think somebody did fix something. However I'm sure the majority of bookmakers worldwide didn't have anything to do with this, so it's next to impossible to tell who actually did it.
Chicago might have been nice, but they haves unpredictable weathers, you know like tornadoes and lightnings; Rio got them oppai girls with string-y pantsu; Tokyo would have been nice - maybe lots more gundams and maids. I don't know bout Madrids, cos no Picasso now.
p.s. like your commitment to interesting content, might go so far as to say I'm a fan! :D
O_O
I have a fan?
A pity they didn't got it...was hoping for a reason to head there if they got the games....
Well, they will have it if we all don't die in 2012. Bloody aztecs. I'll be going, otaku stuff in hand. ._.
