No more spray cans from HLJ

Sadly, I just got informed by e-mail from HobbyLink Japan that they won't be selling spray cans anymore because of shipping problems and new regulations. I'm very sad to ear this because it was the only way I had to get some paint and coating. Hobby supplies are very rare in my neck of the woods. Yesterday I received what will probably be the last shipment of Spray cans from HLJ. I'll have to pass by the post office today to pick it up. Is anyone in my region know where to find some good hobby supplies? The picture of Deathscythe is my most recent project involving coating... I didn't find any other more suitable picture, sorry. I'll do a full photo shoot soon and for Exia too! (as soon as I can finish Exia and coat him!!)

Where in Quebec are you? If you are near Montreal I am sure you can find a few hobby supply stores. I live in Ottawa and we have 2 hobby stores and their selection is not as great as HLJ.com but you could also try playjapan.com. When I can not find what I am looking for thru the good sources ( Any Japan store) I then go to US sites then Canadian since we do not have many lol. Hope that helps.

You can most likely blame US for making this law and other countries following them. Since it is a spray can, it can produce an explosion in planes if handled incorrectly.

As far as I know yes. It's a new regulation by the Japan Post, they are not allowing shipments of spray cans out of the country. Rainbow 10 announced this sometime ago as well.

Drat! I also rely on HLJ for paints. While paints and coating can be found in my country, HLJ does provide a wide choice and I do save some money when buying from HLJ in bulk.

hehehe, I'll post a full photo shoot as soon as I have the time. I built this kit for my friend who is an hardcore fan of Deathscythe and this kit was partially built and left in his box for way too long! (6 years!!)

Does this apply to regular paints as well? If not maybe it's time to buy an airbrush for yourself and buy the little regular acrylic mini paints and the brush setup from them so you can keep importing? That would suck though if it applied to the most basic of supplies such as those as well.

well some places have never shipped spray cans becasue of the explosion and handling issues. guess its just time for HLJ to catch up.

plenty of other websites still deliver, so you shouldn't be to bad off. future buy.. Airbrush, paints in bottles haven't been banned (yet >_<)

Paints aren't being banned, its just shipping of spray cans out of Japan. I'll need to bulk up on them, as I use Mr. Super Clear spray cans quite frequently.

Thank you all for the replies and alternatives you provided. I'm about an hour from Montreal so next time I go there I'll try and get as many as I ''can'' but I don't think I'll be able to find Mr.Hobby cans over here. It's not that much for the paint cans, but I top coat all of my models and I was waiting for my shipment to get here to finish my Exia, guess I'll have to do without it now.

Hobby House on Montreal Rd. here in Ottawa has a good selection of Testers, Humbrol, and Tamiya paints. would recommend investing in an Air-brush and small compressor. Once you master it, your level of control will be much better than with a spray can.

I think you can get Mr.Hobby sprays from Hobbywave.com and it's only $10 per for s/h for each order, no matter the size, and they ship to US and CAN.

Actually this is the international laws that it cannot ship through the airmail. Even my country custom are also restricting such dangerous flammable spray can into the country except for those selling.

Well, its really sad to hear HLJ is no more offering to international buyers because I like the Mr Hobby spray can very much.

If you do live near montreal, I expect there are many places that can cater to your needs. Simply opening up the yellow pages will help you find many hobby dealerships. My city is half the size of montreal and over a dozen large hoobystores...
