Games helped a lot. They force you to know certain kanji...and the kanji are really helpful ones. :D

I like to play NES games because they don't have any kanji in them. If you play text based games you can really practice your mastery without kanji.

I've been trying out more NES games recently but I always find the font/typeset really awkward to read sometimes. Most of it is always katakana and you've always got weird spacing due to how hard that font is to read on screen. :p

True. I hate the way they write things in katakana too.
They seem to have a different way to write english words than they do now.

If everything's written in katakana that'd be confusing.

I only had time to watch your second video as it's 3:16AM now for me, but other than going to a class I've been using the same methods as you mentioned in the second video for the past I think 2 years now maybe? I think it's definately much easier to learn when you're doing something you enjoy and games are great for it. Visual Novels are so great for learning. :D

When I made this post it was around 6PM in Mongolia big time difference ^.^; Yup learning the fun way is quite effective. I have just recently found the awesomeness of Visual Novels, they're perfect for learning a Japanese. Some of them even has repeat functions. And I recommend you to watch the 1st video too when you have time ;)

Yeah, Visual Novels is great for learning, the first time i read it without knowing Hiragana and Katakana. I keep searching for word by word. and give up in the end after 1 route of story.
After some month I just suddenly able to read most it...
