lets visit a Faire!
Today we braved dirt and crowds and went out to a Ren Faire
Mari made a lot of friends, and quite a few ladies came to talk to me specifically because of her (apparently some BJD fans in the area haven't seen a DollfieDream in person and were curious) Almost everyone we interacted with was extremely nice
The cuuuutest was a little boy of maybe 5. He was completely mesmerized by me with Mari in my arms & my friend with dragon on her shoulder. When his mom [?] asked which he liked best, he shyly hid behind his sister's floofy princess skirt and said he liked the dolly the most ^____^
(aggggh, how do you people manage such amazing 'shoots in parks?!? Being out there was insanely frustrating and couple times nearly got a heart-attack when Mari toppled off things... )

Mari *sleepy*: are we there yet....
- nope, this drive is taking forever

We have finally arrived!

Friend's pet dragon. One of them anyways... (In case anyone is unfamiliar with this type - he sits on your shoulder and moves his head around)

First supernatural creature of the day - a forest spirit

Pirates booty!!
and yes, Mari wore her "fluffy angel" wings because everyone at these things seems to dress up just a lil (even if its just a pair of horns or a fancy hat)

The shop-owner was very nice and let us borrow a flag for photos

- put it back, we're not getting it. Onee-chan doesn't have the money

Another spirit! This was actually in a "no outsiders allowed" area of a shop, but the owner let Mari get up there real quick for a photo

We've met the King, yay!

such colorful people everywhere

horsies! ... _ahem_... part of the town parade

Knight model in a Swords Shop.

They had 2 of these on the windows.
The windowsills are slanted and Mari had a lot of trouble keeping balance. The guys in the shop kept making fun and even mock-threatened us with swords for "molesting" their knight ... and then would blow really hard in my direction or jump to make the floor shake to see if Mari would fall over (meanies ;_;)

This model's owner was much nicer (yet this is in the Horrors Museum!)

Mari didn't like the Museum. It started nicely enough with a mama-Dragon telling baby-Dragon tales, yet the rest of it is all Torture stuff

a Canon-shooting game!
Mari is far too small to load and fire something like this, but the pirate running the games let us take some photos

Mari: "fire at will!"

Mari: "I am the Pirate Queen!"
- sweetie, these are made for dogs. Put it back before you get fleas

more townsfolk (the woman in blue told me lots about her Lutz doll)

strange happenings always about

Ladies and gentlemen, this made my day! It may be political correctness gone mad, but seeing a midget brightened up the day immensely

After a while Mari didn't wanna be a "fluffy angel" anymore, so bought her some cute fairy wings
Quite a few fairies approve

This is a true story, I am not making it up!
One of the townsfolk came up to us specifically because he has heard around town of this little "friendly fairy" and wanted to meet her (seriously, Mari was a legend for a day, I'm so proud!)

This entire shot was his, the town flower-seller's, idea ♥

back in the car: covered in layer of dirt, hair a tangled mess. Totally successful day

- didja have fun today?
Mari: "yes! It was thiiiiiiis much fun!"

awww... looks like Mari having a great time ^^ Really want to visit this place =D
I'm not sure if Ren Faires are just an American thing or what..
Sweet pics, Mari looks like she had a lot of fun.
Outdoor shoots are immensely nerve racking especially where I live since the wind is constantly blowing. It helps to have someone else "behind" the scenes acting as a spotter to make sure your girl(s) don't topple over.
For me at least, getting some good angles requires quite a bit of bending and also possibly sitting or laying on the ground. It's a bit messy, but the results speak for themselves, in most cases at least. ^^;
Thanks ^_^
Yeah, I try being low for a good angle, but Faire grounds are too nasty for that. And these friends will hold a purse, but not help with dollfie "catching"
great photos! looked like a lot of fun.
Thanx ^_^ and it really was fun! So many colorful characters all around
That was a cool site to have pics!! Great job!!
Thank you ^_^ Me thinks next time we'll stick to somewhere quieter tho, like a cafe
ROFL! this is great.
YES! Sir was equally amused by Mari's "proper good girl" posture of crossed legs and hands in lap
Troller, FOUND IT!!! lol
HA! (they were always around the King, so maybe guards?)
Now what would be even better would run around in "The King"s costume and just staring at everyone. That would be fun.
Seeing this would brighten anyone's day.
I'm so glad it wasn't just me!
Something about midgets puts a smile on my face, and i don't mean that in a rude way.
Oh this guy was a riot! He welcomed people at the gates in the morning, walked around and let semi-drunk guys rub his head for luck...
What i've learned about midgets, there are 2 kinds. The ones who are bitter about everything, and the ones that are good nature'd and easy going.
Cool pics. Looks like she had a good time, even if it was harrowing for you. :)
thank you ^_^
where do you get these? :0 truly gorgeous!
My friend bought them at the Faire about 7 years ago
Did something happen? She looks so graceful in those pose :D
from what I recall - the Lady doing embroidery wished to be Queen if only for a day, so her husband went to ask the Sprites king of sorts (this big green guy, sadly didn't get a shot!) if they could "borrow" his kingdom for just ...a bit
The people were so nice to her ^^ except those men that you mentioned. HOW RUDE! I would have given an evil glare or two. Glad you sticked with it and STILL took the shot! :D The ending was touching about the guy. He seemed very nice to Mari-chan. Lucky you ^_^!
its like an amusement park - the staff characters are mega-nice, anyone else (I guess certain merchants) are just jerks by nature
I really like the wings :)
^_^ They are part of the lil jacket
Eeeeeee! Love this outfit on her! =3
^_____^ Gotta love mix-and-match separates!
Heh, too cute!
I'm sooo glad she has a lil hoodie to keep her hair tidy while in-transit =P
She looks like she is soooo thinking of plundering your wallet for booty! XD
and plunder she did ...later... 20bucks for sparkly lil wings, oy vey
Ha ha! DD's are excellent at draining monies!
This is AWESOME! XD
Awww.... poor girl. =3
she's just a total scaredy-cat. That diorama doesn't even talk! Now the guy on the other side with talking rat in a cage on his head...
HA HA HA HA! Too funny!
Ha! When you look this rough, you KNOW you had a great day! XD
especially if you've survived a tumble off a playground castle and live to tell the tale! And battle scars!
Oh no! I hope her "battle scars" aren't permanent! O_o
nothing something rubbing alcohol can't fix!
Yay! Mari lives to have more adventures and get more battle scars! ( That clean up easily we hope ) XD
I'm surprised rubbing alcohol works so well! Remember the TARDIS shots some time back? I forgot the blue thigh stains from it 'till now - came off like a dream!
I had no idea rubbing alcohol took off stains of any type! I'll have to pick some up this weekend and try it out. Thanks for the info! =3
This was a completely awesome photo story! And here I always thought Ren Fairs were just kinda lame. =3 Seem all you need is an MDD to make it all perfect!
It was really cool to see so many people come to see Mari. Having her center stage was nice to see.
And it's not easy doing shoots out in the open park areas! Imagine doing it with like 3-5 girls!! You wanna talk maddening.... LOL
Faires are just like anime cons - go in with a certain mindset and at least one thing on the schedule to check out
It was completely mind-blowing how many people would rush up and go, "omg, you have one of those dolls! What brand is she??? Where did you get her???" Someone wrote out their Facebook info so I can send them the pictures, another person was telling me about her doll collection and then we discussed pros/cons of vinyl VS resin
Shooting in the park few months ago was waaay easier compared to this >_<; big open space I can deal with, crowds tho... not so much
One of these days I'll have to check one out. =3
So crowds aren't your thing... you would have hated the anime con we went to where we carried our DD's with us all day. We were ALWAYS getting stopped to ask questions and take pics. It was quite fun! XD
*cough* I only been going to anime cons since '99... You get stopped just as much as a cosplayer ^^;
Ha! Had I known I was speaking to a veteran, I wouldn't have spoken so soon. =3 I'm new to anime cons but have been to DragonCon many times. But I went there for the social aspects and to people watch. We hit up some panels but most of our time was spent in the dealer rooms and in various hotels watching the freaks. XD
But I'm outgoing and a people person so crowds don't bug me at all. Hell I was in Japan, in Tokyo all by myself for 5 days and didn't have issues. You wanna talk about a sea of humanity... ^_^
Have never been to DragonCon... the size of it kinda scares me. So far the biggest event I visited was Anime Boston (about 20k attendance) and Otakon (22k that particular year)
the biggest sea of random people I've been stuck in so far has been Times Square... its a tourist trap of epic proportions, busy even at 3am! Second best in amusement was Trafalgar Sq (its officially a tourist sport to climb on those lions!)
Times Square sounds like Shibuya Crossing in a way... I was there during the day and at night and at night it was WAY busier! Loads of people there but it was quite the experience that I'm glad I had. ^_^
I got a real kick out of reading this. There were so many funny/cool pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you've enjoyed ^_^
Oh my, she looks like she had such a delightful time! :D
Indeed, outdoor shoots are always most challenging. The girls get the easy part, just standing/sitting there trying to look pretty (while the photographer is doing their best contortionists act!)
Oh dear sleeping beauty, why thou shy girl shall wake!
You win "Fanciest Caption"!
Perfect size flag buhaha I want one
ha ha, its nearing Halloween - they probably gonna sell them everywhere!
How exciting. Looks like a lot of fun!
