HELP!! DD Saber Extra vs DD Saber Alter 2nd T__T
After some time thinking about adopting, finally i can and decided to become a parent :)
I wanna go after one of the new Saber DD's through down payment, but now i dont know what to do, i need to decide between the two of them.
I can adopt both & i know it would be a LOT of money, but i don't want to rush (because it will be the 1st time that i will expend that ammount on a hobby like this) and just want to get one of them (after all it will be my first DD).
What version i should take? i like both
I like both versions but there's some points that i think between of DD's:
Saber Extra
- I like her skin color
- I like her sword
- About Extra version i feel like the 1st time that i compared the Original Saber face vs Lily's, i wasn't convinced at all about the Lily's face over the Original one, but now that i see some customized Lily's, i love her. I wonder if it will happen the same
- She is a bit more expensive over Alter version.
Saber Alter 2nd
- I like her face and eyes
- I think her wig looks better that Extra's version
- I like her outfit
- She is cheaper over Extra version.
- But i think her skin is too white (at least thats how she looks on the pictures that i've seen) and i don't know if that makes her more fragile with stains and more noticeable scratches
I would like to know the opinion of the experienced DD owners to help my decision :D
My comment on the 2nd ver is also the skin tone which is too white. But if outfit personally I perfer 2nd ver. Price is not much difference to me...not saying is affortable, but if confirm on the orders the 65k or 72k wont be much difference already.
May be some Dads/Moms with DD white skin tone could help us on some advise ^_^
Yep, i really like the outfit from the Alter version, about the price isnt a big deal between both but i have to decide ^^;
For my personally perferences I would like to have a DD which I could do outdoor shoot. So I think my current decision is like 70% for the 2nd version. Next is just to work out a budget to have the funds ready by Nov for the payment.
I´ve seen at Volks USA, that they have a down payment option and i can pay until shipping period... thats why im looking to get one ^^

I've seen Saber Alter v.1 in person...she's absolutely heartmeltingly gorgeous. Total rabu-rabu. If I had the money I'd go for her, without hesitation. And as far as protecting her beautiful alabaster skin, this is why you get protective suits for your dolliehs.
Thanks for share your thoughts :D i think Alter version is gorgeous too... about protective suits / full body tights, i've seen them, but i think the DD's looks better without them ^^;
From your comment on Alter, you say that you like her face/eyes more, so I think you should go with her. Honestly, white or normal skin isn't probably going to make much difference...DDs are stain magnets anyways, so go with the one you like more :)
I'd say go for Alter. She's not only a little cheaper, she looks prettier to me as well. I love her outfit and eye color very much. And Kymaera is right, DDs stain very, very easily. Even the normal natural skinned ones.
The thing is - both of these heads are the same mold. So if you get Nero with her "warmer" skintone, you can just replace the eyes for Alter's color and redo the makeup a bit
Don't fuss too much about the outfit--if you end up not loving it, then you can always sell it and get something else. And actually, with clothes you're probably going to be getting her some changes of clothes in the future whether you like the default or not, since let's face it, sometimes even dolls need a change of style once in a while. ;)
What matters the most is the head/face. That's really the main thing you're buying with a limited doll. (And I'm not including the eyes in this, as they too can be sold and changed quite easily, and in some cases inexpensively.) Really, ask yourself which kind of girl you think you'd prefer to bring home: one with a sassy, potentially bossy attitude, or the stoic, mysterious girl? The personality can be the most fun part of a doll, especially in photostories, but sometimes a certain one just won't resonate as strongly with you as another.

Why settle for one when you can have...both. That's the beauty of this country. But honestly, you shouldn't let other vote on whom you should get. This is highly a "personal preference" thing. Think hard on who to go for and don't regret the choice. Oh, and the first DD purchase always hurt most. When you get to the 2nd, 3rd...you'll find that the prices on these two are rather inexpensive. :)
Saber Extra has more generous oppai. Just sayin'. ;)
If I were to choose one, it'd be Alter, more elegant. But I have also have Saber Lily and really want a white vs. black setup.
But I can see the appeal of Nero too! It's so close that if my favorite color was red, I think I would side with her.

I've the same problem. I cannot decide about one. Finnally... Im going to adopt Saber Alter, Im afraid about her white skin but, I prefer her outfit, face, sword and wig ^^
If you can afford both, I'd say do so. Neither outfit needs to be "Exclusive" to their character,i.e. "Mix n match". After all, they'll be Yours, so do what you want!

If you can have both, and would actually like to get both, when purchase both...
Plus: A Limited DD which is ones sold out won't get cheaper afterwards...
There are people willing to pay the double of the price to get her, I think the Saber Alter Ver. 1 and Sasara made a big hype with that...
On the other Hand, if you got both, but do not like one of them or both, the thing I wrote before can be your luck, as you can sell them both for (maybe much) higher than you purchased one...
Of course, if you decide you like one of them more, just purchase one...
The money you did not spent to the other, you can put aside for purchasing clothes, eyes, wigs etc....

If I would like to buy one(which I do not) I would go for Saber Alter...
I think Saber Extra's clothes look cheap...in both ways they could and I don't like her make up, but I do like everything of those at Saber Alter...

I've never really been into Sabers character, until I played Fate/Extra where she was a completely different character which I liked more. Thats the main reason I PO'd saber/extra. Alter 2nd is nice but it just doesn't work for me. Thats my opinion anyway in the end you should do what you want.
They are both so lovely, good luck with your decision! If you are a fan of Saber, I would choose the one whose character you favor. Otherwise, I would pick the one whose face (makeup) and skin you like the best, since they have the same head mold. Everything else is very easily changed!
It sounds like Alter might be a better choice for you, based on your lists. DD white skin is really beautiful, IMHO Volks' photos don't do it justice! Though of course both is an appealing option, if you can spare the money . . . ;)
I've seen some pics, on some pics Saber Alter looks too white in others looks better... i dont know if there are some pics with filters... i dunno where i can see pictures that mostly match the real tone of her skin ^^;
True, it can be hard to tell form pictures! I have noticed that white skin picks up the color around it a little . . . which is probably why it looks so stark on Alter in black, but looks much prettier in bright or light colors, like White Christmas Alna. ^^ But it is still pretty pale!
Though it sounds like a split would be perfect for you, could get Extra the doll and then Alter's stuff. ;)
The white balance/color in some photos by Volks' looks off (or it's their post processing) as in some photos Saber Alter's dress looks blacks and in others dark blue.
I couldn't pick one so I'm getting both instead ! Alter and Extra both look gorgeous ! I'm loving Extras re-face up I think it gave her a softer look comparing to original saber ! and we still have to look for close-up photos of her with the new eyes !
also about choosing the doll based on the outfits is not a way to choose cuz you'll eventually customize each of them ^^ eyes and wigs make a big difference. and if you just wanted a saber head mold, plan an order split or what until they're released.
Yep, thats true... if i'm going with that, i could buy Saber Extra because her skin tone, all the other things will be customizable and maybe i can buy Alter's outfit later ^^ on other hand i like Saber Alter overall but that skin tone makes me doubt because its too white ^^u

Not much of help, but go with the one where you have the feel "this is mine". If you have trouble with choosing, get them both.
As for some pointers where you could think about. If you depend your choice on clothes, is not the greatest idea as you will buy more and more for her in the future.
I am kind of in the same position as you are, as I like them both. Just to let you know, I have Lily and want to get a "twin". The choice for me might be easier as I want one that resembles as much as possible like Lily ^^; Still, I have the feel that I want to keep switching between them.
I'm personally buying Alter. I agree with what a lot of people here are saying though, in the end go with the one you want most, not with what other people think you should. Doll buying is a really personal thing, and when spending that much money you don't want to look back later and think 'I wish I'd gone with the other one'. They're both lovely and each had their own good points, picture them in other outfits, with different eye colours, think of what you'd do with them. That's what helped me make my mind up!
If I had to choose, I'd go for Extra. I adore her green eyes and her outfit is gorgeous.
Her outfit doesn't convince me yet, but Saber Extra is gaining some points since she have the same mold for head, her skin tone, and her L Bust... but i like more the wig and outfit from Alter's ^^;
Saber Alter for myself and my girlfriend. =) She said the extra reminds her a little too much of Sargent pepper. The extra outfit also feels a little too eechi/cheap costume for Saber who's supposed to be Royalty. If the front wasn't see-through it'd be much better.
Alter for me. She has an air of mystery and nobility that far exceeds the one that surrounds Nero. Nero is adorable though, in her cute and showy Sgt.Pepper-esque dress. Her face, even though it's the same mold as Saber 1, has something about it that I simply don't like.
id choose both :p. But if i had to choose 1 then it would be Alter.
The whiteness of the skin totally depends on the light you photograph them in.

Question guys: Why is volks jp more expensive than Voks usa?
Volks USA's prices have stayed more or less consistent over the years as opposed to changing directly along with the exchange rate. I remember when it was a fair bit cheaper to buy from Volks International site in yen, even considering the cost of pricey international EMS shipping. -sigh-
I'm gonna go with Alter. Saber is my all time favorite character (Mirai is close behind her >.>), and I love the original from Fate. My first experience with her was through the visual novel. How she was introduced.. omg. @.@; I had the same reaction Shiro had. lol "Oh my friggin' God.. @.@;.. she's so, elegant. o.o;" Loved the anime. Enjoyed Zero. The story behind Extra was nice, but I wasn't too fond of how Saber looks like. The DD isn't any different. It's nice that they "enhanced" her chest and all, but I dunno. lol My vision of Saber is from Fate. I think her original war garb looks sexier than the red one from Extra.
Then when I layed eyes on Alter after she was consumed by the darkness.. I felt bad for her, but fell in love. rofl :D Original and Alter are the versions I love. I will admit, Lily looks cool as hell too, but for some reason, I'm drawn to those two. Since I have no Dollfie of my own, and don't want to pay 2.5k USD for the original, I think I'll go for Alter. :D
So, with that in mind. I'd say go with Alter. She stands out a lot more, to me anyway, than Extra. Then again, that's just me. lol This is coming from someone that doesn't own a Dollfie Dream, and loves Saber, and wants his first DD to be Saber. >.>
They're both so beautiful. I'd get both if you can afford it. The reason is they're both character DDs which I think are very special. Plus they both will go up in price later so you are only saving yourself money getting both now.
If you get one, you will want the other later on and will pay more.
Extra is foxy allure. Alter is Dark sexy. What feel do you like? I like both feels,
i was thinking about getting my first DD, but the price is really a killer. when i emailed VOLKS about whether the 10% japan sales tax is excluded for international orders this was their reply:
For orders placed within Japan, the fee is for sales tax required within Japan. For orders placed from overseas, this fee becomes a handling fee instead.
We appreciate your understanding.
WTF 6510 YEN handling fee??????? even though international orders should be exempt from domestic sales tax right? seems like a bit much.
